Pulling himself out of his reverie, Xia Renjian got to the main issue, "What does Father want?"
"I don't know. He did not tell me anything when he called earlier." Hua Jinqiu was so agitated, her voice coming out as a whimper.
Hua Jinqiu was really worried this time, but all she could do was speculate as she did not know what to do.
Once the Old Master Xia thought of something, no one could obstruct his way unless...
In front of her sons, she could still maintain her calm. But now that she's alone with her husband, Hua Jinqiu revealed an anxious expression.
Noting his wife's uneasiness, Xia Renjian swiftly grabbed his phone that was placed atop the study table to call his father.
It was on silent mode.
15 missed calls.
What could his father want this time for him to persistently call him?
The last time Xia Renjian talked to his father, they got into an argument because of the matter about the arranged marriage.
As soon as Xia Renjian pressed the dial button, it only took one ring before the call was picked up.
"Renjian." An elderly voice came over from the other side of the phone.
"Father." Xia Renjian's voice was devoid of emotion as he acknowledged his father. "I have some things to discuss with you."
He promised his son that he would take care of the arranged marriage no matter what it took.
If his father would insist on it, Xia Renjian would have to resort to other means.
"I don't have much time tonight. If you want, come over here tomorrow. I'm staying at Hao Hua," Old Master Xia proposed.
Xia Renjian thought about his father's proposal. Deciding that the matter about the marriage should be discussed personally, he agreed. "Okay."
. . .
Late at night, inside Hao Hua's Presidential Suite No. 1.
In the spacious living room, two people –a distinguished old man who had his phone on his left ear and a sophisticated woman holding a glass of red wine – sat opposite to each other, their expressions eerily calm.
"I'll send someone there tomorrow to serve as my grandson's bodyguard." The old man said to the person he was talking to over the phone.
The whole suite was so silent that the woman at the side could hear the other party's response. "There's no need for that, Father. I can arrange it myself."
Hearing this, the woman gracefully lifted the wine glass to her lips to take a sip, her eyebrow slightly raised as she looked at the old man, seemingly in a warning.
The old man definitely knew the woman's temper, in a stern manner, he said to the person on the other end of the line: "What? You want to defy my wishes?"
"No. That's not what I mea–"
"Renjian, I am only doing this for the sake of my grandson's safety. Don't even try reasoning to me. I've already heard enough. I will send someone there. That's final."
Apparently, the old man was actually Xia Renjian's father, Xia Mo.
"You would not even let him marry that Xinji girl from the Wang's. At least give me a chance to do something for him. I will not speak of that arranged marriage again if you'll give me a word that you'll let the person I will send to be my grandson's bodyguard."
Old Master Xia's voice was indignant. Giving his son no time to refute, he immediately cut off the call right after he said his piece.
The woman at the side watched as Old Master Xia poured himself some wine.
Her plans were already set in place. Just a little bit more and it would be perfect!
Glancing at her wristwatch, which was probably worth more than half a million, the woman stood up from her seat. Her every movement gave off a sense of nobility.
"It is already late. I shall not impose on you any longer so you can take a rest. Enjoy your stay here, Xia Mo."
With that, the woman walked out of the suite, leaving Old Master Xia to stare at her departing back.
Who could be that woman to have the right to call the honorable Xia Mo by his name?
