Chapter 125: Ch.124 Plans Are No Match for Change
Closer, even closer now—Su Ming felt like a missile. When the Red Son released him, he could see the sonic boom clouds forming around him.
Though Su Ming's body wasn't as tough as those of superhumans, with the protection of his sacred armor, he could endure such speed.
This was nothing like being carried by Barry through the Speed Force. In the Speed Force, most physical effects didn't apply, making it a comfortable experience—after all, Barry did the running, and Su Ming quite enjoyed it.
But now, this was pure physical acceleration. His shoulders and head felt the resistance of the air, especially at this speed, where the wind was so fast it was nearly impossible to breathe.
Nevertheless, Su Ming held his great sword at his chest, and the Red Son had aimed perfectly. In just a fraction of a second, Su Ming would pierce Barbatos's heart with his sword.
At that moment, though Barbatos was immensely powerful, he would surely be severely wounded.
But would things really go that smoothly?
As Su Ming approached the range of Challenger Mountain, Barbatos turned his head as if he had eyes on the back of it, moving with a speed that defied comprehension. His enormous eyes, like two purple lanterns, stared at Su Ming, and his gaping mouth emitted boiling black mist.
Without any other visible movement, Barbatos's body slid along the tuning fork as if shifting through space, suddenly moving downward.
Su Ming's sword strike missed.
He had not hit Barbatos; instead, he soared past his head, and the massive face of Barbatos turned into a black ground beneath him.
"Damn!" Su Ming's pupils shrank instantly, but a missed strike was a missed strike. He had to find a new opportunity. "Godkiller, Giant Drill!"
His thoughts moved quickly. The moment Barbatos dodged, Su Ming abandoned his attack plan and instead drew out the Godkiller.
Under his mental command, the energy weapon instantly transformed into a massive drill, enveloping Su Ming entirely as it began spinning at high speed.
"Boom!"
Just fractions of a second later, Su Ming made contact with the rocky surface of the mountaintop. Fortunately, while the Godkiller might not be ideal against dark energy, it was still a formidable divine weapon.
The giant drill, propelled by the force of Su Ming's dive, burrowed hundreds of meters into the ground, significantly cushioning the impact of his landing.
"Cough, cough... that was rough."
Su Ming moved his arm, grateful for the modifications he had made to his bones. Before landing, he had controlled the X-Metal in his body to shift into a form that was hard on the outside but soft on the inside, stabilizing his organs. Thus, his internal injuries weren't too severe, though most of his unprotected muscles were torn, and some of his ligaments had suffered sprains and strains. His healing factor was working overtime.
He felt a tightness in his chest, a desire to cut something to relieve his bloodlust.
But logic told him there was no time to rest. Immediately, he used the drill to dig into the side of the hole, burrowing like a crazed groundhog.
He needed to move—staying in this rabbit hole would only lead to him being drowned out. Even though this was behind enemy lines, with only Barbatos here, Barbatos himself was the greatest threat.
Watching the firefly turn into a meteor streaking across the sky, Barbatos felt much better. But at that moment, a strange, silvery-white magical energy coiled around him.
It resembled a satin ribbon, glowing with countless silver particles, wrapping around his neck as if trying to pull him off the tuning fork.
It was unclear what exactly this was—magic, perhaps, or some unique cosmic energy Barbatos had never encountered before. To his surprise, it was powerful enough to alter the world's reality.
Had Su Ming, who was tunneling out from dozens of meters below, seen this, he would have immediately recognized it as the "Order Magic" wielded by the Silver Sorceress, a parody character created by DC.
In Marvel, there was a Scarlet Witch; DC naturally wouldn't forget her in their parody world.
She was Scarlet; I am Silver.
She mastered chaos magic; I master order magic.
She's a mutant with a prestigious lineage; I'm the girl next door.
The point was to highlight differences. Their team roles and abilities were very similar, but their origins were entirely different. They were two different people.
The Silver Sorceress didn't look much like the Scarlet Witch; in fact, she more closely resembled the White Queen. She wore a white suit with a feathered collar, her long blonde hair flowing with energy.
She was younger, but order magic was much easier to master than chaos magic, so her abilities were no less formidable than the Scarlet Witch's.
Now, with both hands wrapped in silver light bands, she was pulling hard in mid-air, her small face showing a strained expression.
Barbatos's eyes narrowed. This bug had actually touched him? He fired a dark energy beam at her, but the Silver Sorceress quickly withdrew one of her glowing hands, using order magic to counter it.
The black and white beams clashed in mid-air, holding each other in a stalemate. One moment, the black beam pushed forward, gaining ground; the next, the white beam surged, pushing back.
Su Ming emerged from the ground several meters away, perfectly timing his exit at the base of the cosmic tuning fork. He looked up to see a scene reminiscent of Harry and Voldemort's duel, with beams locked in battle.
At that moment, Batman suddenly appeared out of nowhere, as if he had been following Su Ming the entire time. He hurriedly pulled Su Ming along, urging him to follow.
The two of them pressed against the tuning fork, the dark energy radiating a bone-chilling cold. But Batman seemed well-prepared, having waited a long time for this opportunity.
He had already scouted the area and led Su Ming straight to where Cyborg was.
There was an operating table, one of those old-fashioned tilted ones, where Cyborg was bound, seemingly trapped in a nightmare.
He wasn't dead, though. The Promethium metal in his body, infused with a Mother Box, seemed alive. Earlier, the Murder Machine wanted his Mother Box, which had merged with Cyborg's body. If they had tried to dissect him, they would have found nothing.
It was unclear how Barbatos managed to trap a machine in a dream.
But that didn't matter now. Su Ming immediately used his great sword to cut through Cyborg's restraints, while Bruce gestured with his chin towards the tuning fork, indicating Su Ming should rescue Aquaman. Then, Bruce hefted Cyborg over his shoulder and began to retreat, hiding in the tunnel Su Ming had just dug.
Su Ming glanced at Aquaman hanging nearby, shrugged, and swung his sword, freeing Aquaman... and the Martian Manhunter hanging beside him.
