Chapter 385: Ch.384 Reassembly
However, Donna didn't manage to keep her serious demeanor for long. She soon broke character. If she were deliberately imitating her sister, she could pull it off, but now that they were in private, there was no need.
"Hey, everyone." She strutted in with a catwalk-like stride, giving Circe a big hug and kissing her on both cheeks. "Hello, my other sister."
Circe, without much interest, greeted Donna back with a cheek-to-cheek touch. "If Cronus and the others knew you came here so openly, and I was just entertaining you, he'd go mad with anger."
"It's been thousands of years already. The era of the gods is long over, but the Titans still cling to old grudges. So boring." Donna rolled her eyes, as if to say, "Here we go again." "And besides, I'm an Amazon princess, not some tool of the Titans."
"So, you still defected."
"I don't want to get involved in any god's business. I just want to fly around the city every day, kicking bad guys' butts. But without Olympus having my back, the Titans wouldn't let me go." Donna turned to the others, extending her hand.
"So now you're the Goddess of Fate? The Titans coming after you would mean declaring war on Olympus." Circe sighed, resting her hands on her hips as she looked out at the sky from the cave entrance.
"Well, technically, the real Fates are still those three old ladies. I just hold the title, but you're right." Donna grinned slyly at Circe before turning around to shake hands with Detective Chimp.
The two knew each other. Occasionally, they ran into each other at the cafeteria in the Hall of Justice. Since Bobo was only 4'3", most of his interactions with her were from below, and he often mistook her for Diana.
The Oblivion Bar didn't serve food, so after a direct teleport portal was set up to the Hall of Justice, Bobo had all three of his daily meals there.
Batman provided meal subsidies for heroes, making it significantly cheaper to eat in the cafeteria than restaurants of similar quality outside.
Whenever Bobo mistook her for Diana at the cafeteria, Donna wouldn't correct him.
She just had to say, "Put it on my tab," after her meal, and the cost would end up on Diana's bill. Why correct him?
University life was expensive, and she was also being a superhero. She didn't have much time to work a regular job, and money was tight.
Donna's current cover was as a female university student at New York University, majoring in photography. The field was flexible—when she had a mission, she would just tell her classmates she was going out for a photoshoot, and then disappear for days without anyone looking for her.
But as long as no one inspected too closely, it was good enough to fool anyone.
"Of course, let's set off right away. Batman gave me a brief explanation of the situation, and said I should follow your orders." Donna picked up her shield and sword, rotating her wrists to loosen up.
Su Ming squinted and put on his helmet. Batman saying that was unlikely.
He must have ordered Donna to keep an eye on him and be ready to stop him if he tried anything drastic.
He couldn't object to Diana stepping down—after all, Su Ming was indeed protecting her life. But that meant there was no one from the Justice League in the team at all.
With the stakes involving the safety of the magical world, he couldn't let a team without any Justice League ties handle it.
He certainly wouldn't rely on Bobo to prevent Su Ming from going rogue. A chimp wasn't much of a match for the world's greatest mercenary.
So, naturally, Batman needed someone on the team as a backup. Even if Su Ming hadn't contacted him, Batman would have sent someone.
He was probably considering Green Arrow or Green Lantern, but Su Ming directly requested Donna to join.
As the leader of the Teen Titans, Donna could perfectly impersonate Diana while also being someone Batman trusted to handle herself. After brief consideration, he agreed to Su Ming's request.
No matter what Batman thought or did, it was all about handling the magical issue smoothly. Su Ming had no intention of betraying and siding with Upside-Down Man.
So Batman could think whatever he wanted. He would carry out his justice while Su Ming made his gains—no conflict there.
"Goodbye, Circe. You should find somewhere to hide for a few days too."
Arabella had already opened a portal, and the group set off for Hell, making a stop before heading to Shangri-La. Before entering, Su Ming turned to remind the witch, who was staring blankly at the dining table.
"I will. Maybe I'll go to Limbo." Circe nodded slightly, pointing towards the portal, urging them to hurry up. Demons were already making their way over.
