Xia Rou glanced at Lu Aotian. "What are you getting at?"
Lu Aotian shrugged. "Just asking."
"Enough, you two. I just want to know, is that man my father?"
Wan Jia's heart was beating fast.
Xia Rou's expression was that of someone who was trying to free themselves from the grip of dreath. "Little Wan, I said that I can tell you everything, but you can't despise me." Then she looked at Lin Lihua as if saying that she should not despise her either.
Under their anticipating gazes, she finally said, "Yun was my boyfriend, and I didn't know that he was married. I knew close to nothing about him at the time then one day I accidentally stumbled upon everything about him. He locked me up and every time I ran away, he would find me and lock me up again. He only let me go when he found out that I was pregnant because...he was half sure that the child was not his." she took a deep breath. "He was right, it wasn't."
Wan Jia: "..."
Lu Aotian : "..." I somehow expected this. For the first time in my life, I got something wrong.
Lin Lihua: "What?!"
Wan Jia contained her shock. "Is that why he wanted to kill you?"
"Yes."
Lin Lihua was thinking that all her views on the world had been turned upside down. Mom, didn't you say that Pycho Yun was the only man in your life?
Wan Jia was not interested in back stories and neither was Lu Aotian. She asked, "Then, who is my father?"
Xia Rou looked at Wan Jia and avoided Lin Lihua's questioning gaze. "Lin Zhou."
Lin Lihua seemed to heave a sigh of relief.
Wan Jia nodded in understanding.
Xia Rou continued. "My story with Yun is extremely complicated, I don't even know what to say about it. I met Lin Zhou when I was still in and out of Yun's captivity. That's how you and your twin happened. He actually didn't know about it and when he did, he married me and we later adopted Lihua."
Wan Jia asked. "What happened to the boy from the He family?"
"We brought him up but one day he accidentally overheard Lin Zhou and I talking and discovered that he was not our son. He left home since then. He was barely nineteen and said that he was going to look for his family."
"Nineteen..." Wan Jia thought it made sense. She was nineteen when the He family found out that she was not their daugher. Perhaps that boy found his family and had someone tell them. But she had never seen him so..."He didn't go back home?"
"He didn't get the chance. He was killed." Xia Rou said sadly.
"Oh..."
Lin Lihua was still adjusting to the fact that all these years she had thought that her sister's father was General Yun when it was actually a lie...she would ask about it later.
Wan Jia sighed in understanding.
Lu Aotian, on the other hand, had a mixture of unnoticed expressions.
It was no wonder Wan Jia could be so skilled in lying.
The story about General Yun was around 80% true which was acceptable, but what was the deal with Lin Zhou? Didn't the two of them meet the same year they adopted Lin Lihua? Why was there a three to four year gap?
He did not ask because of that statement she had said: You cannot despise me.
Perhaps she was ashamed of how Wan Jia really happened?
"I wish to have a paternity test with Mr. Lin." Wan Jia said.
Lu Aotian stopped her. "No need. She said he's your father, so he is."
Secretly, he gave Xia Rou a meaningful glance. He was letting it go, but it did not mean he was was supporting her lie. His good impression of her had gone at least ten feet underground.
Perhaps the only person who had ever lied to him and got away with it was Wan Jia. Everyone else would be disliked by him.
"My love, can you go out with your sister for a while, I have something to ask Mrs. Lin."
Because of her lie, he had even stopped calling her 'mother'.
When Wan Jia and Lin Lihua left, Xia Rou immediately spoke. "I know what you want to ask, I have nothing else to say. Lin Zhou is really Little Wan's father."
Lu Aotian looked at her coldly. "That's not my business." Then he showed her a photo on his phone. He had taken a photo of the warning in the paternity test result file. Just as they had expected, that doctor who gave Lu Shaoting the file had disappeared. "Do you think General Yun did this?"
Xia Rou trembled when she saw it. She did not understand the message but from what she knew about that man, it must be a warning. "It must be him."
"Okay."
"Lu Aotian."
"What?"
"I was telling the truth just now. Our relationship was very secretive before because my husband was not as powerful as he is now. He could have been killed if found out. That's why I lied to Yun as well."
"Why are you telling me this? I don't have a right to know."
"I don't want my son-in-law to have a bad impression of me.
Our relationship was quite...not something to be proud of at first. We were not even dating."
"Okay, it makes sense now." He did not want to dwell on it.
"You believe me?"
"Mmh."
