The first thing Lu Tongyan did after his granddaughter's birthday was look for his second son. That punk! Although it was not too obvious, he knew his son better than anyone. The way he was looking at that girl who was introduced as Wan Jia's assistant wasn't normal. If his instincts were right, that was Su Ling.
"Shaoting."
Lu Shaoting turned to look at his father. One look and he knew what it was about.
"I don't have anything against the girl you marry as long as she doesn't bring disaster to our family, but what about your child? Are you going to let him be an illegitimate child?"
Lu Shaoting frowned. "Father, I already told you; that child is not mine."
"then why did you refuse to do the paternity test?" Lu Shaoting was in fact the one who had proposed it but he changed his mind in the last minute with no explanation.
"Let's not even mention the risks brought about by prenatal paternity tests. That woman, Yan Xue, is no different from a psycho. When it is proven that I'm not the father of that child, she might terminate her pregnancy." No matter how much he hated Yan Xue, the child was innocent. It was safer to wait a little more because once the child was born, it would be too late for Yan Xue to terminate it.
Lu Tongyan thought it was possible too. Though he wondered, why did it sound like Yan Xue had got the wrong man as the father of her child?
He did not think too much about it though, it would have been nice if that was his grandchild but since Lu Shaoting said that he wasn't, it was no longer his business.
"Was what they said about that woman true? About her inability to conceive?"
Of course he would ask about that.
Lu Shaoting was not sure how to answer him. Before they started dating, Su Ling had told him that she may have trouble concieving because of a past mistake. It was just a probability and not the absolute truth. But he knew that it might be very difficult...
Seeing the look on Lu Shaoting's face, he knew that it was probably true.
He turned to leave. His son was definitely someone with a sound mind and knew how small the family was. He knew the importance of him having children...
...
Lu Tongyan was a little absent minded as he walked ahead. He did not notice that his vision was gradually blurring. If he wasn't pulled back by a pair of a young lady's soft hands, he would have knocked his forehead into the pillar in front of him.
"Mister, are you alright? I'm so sorry."
When Lu Tongyan's vision cleared and he realized who the young lady was, he frowned. Su Ling? Sure enough, she would try to suck up to him in attempt to make him have a better impression of her. If this woman had ulterior motives towards his son, he would burn her whole family to death.
Su Ling was stunned too. Old Master Lu? She was on her way to find Lu Shaoting and had seen a man walking straight towards the pillar as though he wasn't seeing it and pulled him back. Who knew it would be Old Master Lu?
"Master Lu, will you be alright on your own? Perhaps I should help you to where you are going?"
It was only out of kindness that she had asked. If it was someone else, she would have tried to help too. However, Lu Tongyan's answer broke her heart into pieces.
"Don't think that if you pretend to be a kind and innocent girl, I will like you and accept you as my daughter-in-law. That tactic will only ever work on my second son who you have put under a spell."
She looked at the man as he walked away. Well, she hadn't deliberately tried to curry favour with him.
Despite the old man's hostility towards her, she smiled. After all, if she married Lu Shaoting, she would be known as Lu Shaoting's wife. She would spend the rest of her life with him and not with her future father-in-law.
While she thought about this, she felt something slightly tug her skirt. She looked down to see a cute little girl.
"Aunty Su Ling, are you out here alone because you are too bored?"
Su Ling looked at the little girl and naturally smiled. Her boss' daughter was quite lovable. One would smile just by looking at her. "Little Miss, what are you doing out here? You should stay in the villa and keep warm. It's starting to get cold."
"I followed Daddy out." she pointed at Lu Aotian who was talking to someone not too far away.
"Aunty, why do you adress me that way? You should just call me 'Little Jia'."
Su Ling found it terrifying. "Your parents and uncle are all my bosses. How can I be so disrespectful and use your nickname to adress you?"
Little Jia immediately frowned. "But aren't you second Uncle's wife? That makes you my aunt."
Su Ling did not anwer .
The little girl peered at her. "Aunty Su Ling, don't be sad anymore. Little Jia will hug you."
"Eh, what?"
She had not noticed it herself but it was indeed quite obvious. Little Jia had only gone over to say hi but noticed it very fast.
Little Jia thought that she had not understood her.
"Daddy said that when girls are sad, they should be hugged and shown some love. Only then will they feel better. Little Jia will hug you, okay?" when she finished speaking, she lifted her little hands towrds Su Ling.
