Chapter 565 - I hope one day your heart will be mine

Why was Lu Meili getting along with that guy? Considering the timeline, they shouldn't have known each other for long. He didn't believe that he didn't have a chance. If he didn't, he would create one.

Up ahead, Mu Zhichen broke into a smile of satisfaction. "Meili,"

"What is it?" Lu Meili was busy fixing a ribbon on her hair. Mu Zhichen leaned towards her face and ran his fingers at the back of her neck.

Lu Meili's eyes shot wide open.

"There was something on your neck." He explained.

"Oh." Lu Meili didn't pursue it, though she wondered, just to get something off her neck, was that position necessary?

Meanwhile, Xu Tang cursed. "That bastard! How dare he take advantage of Meili like that? He even dares to kiss her in public?"

That was right, Mu Zhichen's position earlier was deliberate. From Xu Tang's angle, one would think he had just kissed her.

The fact that Lu Meili didn't react negatively to his 'kiss' made Xu Tang even more hopeless. Did this mean she was really determined to marry that man? But he didn't like him.

Logically, of course he would not like his own romantic rival.

When they entered the car, Lu Meili used the chance to explain her relationship with Xu Tang to him. As her future husband, he had every right to know.

"Xu Tang is my childhood friend. I fell in love with him years ago but he didn't feel the same way so I gave up on him." She explained it all briefly.

Mu Zhichen turned to look at her. Xu Tang? That had to be Tangtang, right? No wonder he hated him from the moment he saw him. Turns out he was the romantic rival he was most curious about

Though he found it laughable. He did not reciprocate Lu Meili's feelings? There was actually someone blind enough to reject Lu Meili? 

Since he was here, pestering her, he comprehended that he must have realized that he loved her and was trying to get her back.

"It's all in the past, right?"

"Yes."

Mu Zhichen studied her expression. "If you are not decided and still have feelings for him, you should get back together with him while you still have the time. Once we are engaged, I will not like it if my fiancée still fantasizes over another man."

"I know. I wouldn't dishonor my husband by seeing another man." That would bring such huge shame to the Lu family. It would be a huge slap in Lu Aotian's and Wan Jia's faces for not bringing their daughter up properly.

"Since he's in the past, let's not talk about him." Mu Zhichen said.

"Right, I forgot to give you this." He took out a necklace.

It was an exquisite blue necklace, the deep color of the deepest part of the ocean.

Lu Meili was awed. "It's beautiful. How did you know that I like blue?"

"I didn't know. I only got this necklace because I thought it suits you."

A piece of memory from years ago flashed his mind.

"Little Jia, why are you staring at the ocean?"

"Because I'm sad. Mommy is too busy entertaining the guests and won't play with me."

The little boy Tangtang put a hand on her shoulder to coax her. "Don't be sad. Am I not here? I will play with you as much as you like. Anyway, why do you always stare at the ocean when you are sad?"

"I like its color very much. When I grow up, I will ask daddy to redecorate my room and make it blue. When I'm old enough, I will buy an island so I can see the ocean as much as I want."

That was the only thing he had in common with her. He remembered that when he overheard Lu Meili's conversation, he childishly hated all seas, oceans and water in general. It was in fact for this reason that he couldn't forget her favorite color no matter what. 

"You were so cute as a child." He chuckled. How I wish we have a daughter so she can be as cute as you.

On their way home, Mu Zhichen kept stealing glances for the umpteenth time. 

Lu Meili chuckled. "If you have something to say, just say it." 

Mu Zhichen really had something to say. She was not wearing the necklace he had just given to her although she found it pretty. She probably had not accepted him completely yet. "I hope that one day, I will not only have the title of your husband, I will have your heart as well." 

The underlying meaning was clear. He hoped she would fall in love with him one day. 

Lu Meili didn't know what to say to this. She couldn't expect to fall in love so easily and couldn't make a promise she was not sure of either so she laughed it out. "I don't know. That would depend on how much you will love me. Would you still want me if I contracted an incurable disease?" 

He neither said yes or no, but joked it out too. "A beauty contracting an incurable disease... that would be such a waste of beauty." 

"Pfft. You are too funny."

Mu Zhichen: Meili is now mine. Don't even think of fighting with me over her. She will become my fiancé soon.

Xu Tang: You think too much. Meili and I must have fallen in love with each other while still in our mothers' wombs. She can only be my wife.

Mu Zhichen: I will invite you to our engagement banquet.

Xu Tang: Sure thing, I will be there (To elope with the bride)
