Chapter 576 - Marrying my wife off

Under Wan Jia's and Mu Zhichen's gazes, Lu Meili went over to her future grandmother-in-law. She looked like she had something to say.

However, she said nothing new and only beamed. "I have sent the invitations on my side."

"That's good." Matriach Mu took a bracelet off her wrist. "Meili, this bracelet belongs to the Mu family. I want you to have it."

"Eer…"

"Grandma, it's too soon. You can give it to her on our wedding day." Mu Zhichen eased the situation. He could see how unwilling Lu Meili was to take it.

"Is that so? Then I'll wait."

"Zhichen's grandmother and I will go to the kitchen. Meili, why don't the two of you walk around?" Wan Jia knew that there was perhaps something on her mind and that she could only say it to Mu Zhichen. Lu Aotian and Mr. Mu were already catching up, probably over a game.

As soon as the women left, Lu Meili couldn't face Mu Zhichen.

"Is anything the matter?" Mu Zhichen was nervous. Had she decided to call off the engagement? Just who did she meet today? If it happened to be Xu Tang, nothing good could possibly come out of it.

"Will your parents still put you under pressure if you are engaged?"

"What's that about?" He didn't answer her question and asked his own instead.

Don't you think it's too rushed? One day I'm an unattached woman, the next day I'm going to be engaged and within three months, I'll be married as well? It doesn't make any sense to me.

Perhaps since my parents met because of a marriage agreement, got married in a flash and fell in love within a few days, they expect it to be the same for me."

Mu Zhichen sighed in relief. So it was only this. "What do you suggest?"

"How about we only get engaged and hold our wedding next year in spring?"

"If it's only this, I'll speak to my parents. I don't want you to be uncomfortable about anything." In their excitement, he must have totally forgotten the fact that he was in love with Lu Meili, but she didn't have the same feelings for him yet. She still needed time to let her feelings build up.

"Last night, you had something to tell me?"

"Yes. Well,…"

In the kitchen, matriach Mu looked remorseful.

"Did I make her uncomfortable?"

Wan Jia was chopping vegetables at a remarkable speed. "Don't  think too much. The kids will solve their problems on their own."

Just like her grandson, matriach Mu was walking on needles. What if Lu Meili had been offended by them and was going to cancel the engagement?

She had to admit, she was previously irked by Mu Zhichen's lack of interest in women. When she was finally informed that not only was he bringing a woman home, that woman was also a daughter of the Lu family, she had been overjoyed. 

What if it was all a dream? 

Wan Jia was not worried. She knew that if Lu Meili didn't want to marry, she would have said so before sending out the invitation cards.

At the dining table, matriach Mu snuck glances at her grandson, trying to detect if he was heartbroken. 

But then she instead saw him pick dishes for Lu Meili. What a display of affection! 

Wan Jia was shocked. "Eer..." 

Although Lu Meili couldn't be considered a neat freak, she couldn't eat food from someone else's cutlery. She could only accept such actions from Lu Xian Yu. 

Just when she expected Lu Meili to stop eating, she actually ate it. 

She sighed inwardly. This was great. Even if it was only because she didn't want to embarass Mu Zhichen, it meant that in her conscience, Mu Zhichen was already accepted as her future husband.

"What's the meaning of this?! Why won't you let me in?" The peace was interrupted by a furious voice. "Get out of my way!" 

Lu Meili chocked. Xu Tang? What in the world was he doing here? 

Mu Zhichen noticed her uneasiness and clenched his fist. Great. Just when he was starting to think that she would one day like or even love him, Xu Tang was here. Not only that, his effect on her was obvious. 

Lu Aotian had already gone out to check the situation. "What do you want?" 

Xu Tang was fuming with rage. He took out the invitation card he had taken from Small Xixi. "What's this all about?" 

"My daughter is getting engaged. Does she need to seek permission from you, young master Xu?" 

"She's my wife! You are forcing my wife to get married to another man when the one she loves is me. Aren't you being too shameless?" 

Lu Aotian's lips twitched. "For the sake of the friendship between my brother and your father, I'll give you a chance to leave on your own." 

"Why would I leave? So you can force Meili and I apart? You are Lu Aotian, but I'm not afraid of you." 

No one would remain in the house with such a ruckus going on outside. They all came to see what was going on. 

As soon as Xu Tang saw Lu Meili, he tried to go past Lu Aotian. "Little angel, don't let them force you into anything. I'll protect you." 

Wan Jia was the angriest. "How shameless! Xu Tang, I thought you were a respectable man. How could you come to cause a ruckus here? Didn't you reject my daughter before? What do you want?" 

"I was wrong in rejecting her, but we still love each other, and this has nothing to do with any of you. I want to speak to Lu Meili." 

Lu Aotian glared at him. "My daughter doesn't have the time." 

"She doesn't, really? Then I'll say whatever I have to say right here." 

Lu Aotian was trying his best to resist the urge to send this young lad to his grave with a kick. 

Lu Meili went foward from Mu Zhichen's side. "Xu Tang..."
