Late in the afternoon, Yun Xuan made sure Lin Ye and Yun Feng both had everything they needed before she finished up all the work she had to do.
There was not much to do and she was done in one hour. She took a glance at the two people in the living room.
The little boy was driving his toy cars around Lin Ye while the man listened to him play.
It was harmonious. For the first time, the little boy did not throw a tantrum because of Lin Ye's presence.
In fact, he stood up once in a while and held onto Lin Ye's hands, and the latter carried him onto his lap.
Yun Xuan couldn't resist a smile. Why was it that, although the two of them were unrelated, watching their little interactions somehow felt like watching a father and son?
Yun Xuan shook the thought out of her head. Since Yun Feng was born, he had never spent this much time with any man. It must be normal that he would gradually warm up to him. It was also normal that she would think they looked like a father and son.
Lin Ye felt her get closer to him and his body tensed up.
"Are the two of you hungry? I'll get you fruits."
Lin Ye knew that little children felt hungry earlier because their bodies were growing up rapidly and they played a lot.
"I'm not hungry. I can still wait until it's time for dinner. But Yun Feng must be after playing a lot just now."
Yun Xuan swiftly prepared pineapple pieces and scooped the little boy in her arms to feed him.
He was learning to eat on his own- once in a while, he would clumsily reach to take a piece on his own and bring it to his mouth. Luckily, Yun Xuan would always sanitize his little hands before starting to feed him in case he touched the food.
Lin Ye took this chance to ask. "Xuanxuan, what kind of man would you want to marry?"
Yun Xuan frowned and her actions slowed down. "Why are you asking me this?"
"I thought that after knowing each other for a while, we could be considered friends... so I wanted to know a little more about my friend. But if you think it invades your privacy then you don't have to answer me."
Yun Xuan was silent for a while after his voice fell. She looked at her son who was clumsily trying to eat on his own.
"I don't know. Perhaps one that has kids already but is unmarried would do the trick?"
Lin Ye was shocked by her question. "A divorcee or a widower?" What kind of preference was this?
"Is it because you believe that men who are fathers are more responsible because they can take care of a child and can therefore take care of you?"
"Not exactly."
As soon as she said this, something fell into his thought.
Tyler Willows...
Since the last time he beat up that man, he had investigated him a little. That man had a son and ex wife.
Why was it that he so oddly matched her criterion?
That stung his heart. Was she still hung up on him after so long?
"There's no man who wouldn't want to have an heir of his own, right? Everyone would want to continue their own bloodline." Yun Xuan continued. Unbeknownst to her, she had unconsciously started to trust Lin Ye.
She didn't think that she would ever let someone know about this but she did. "I cannot have another child. It would be best if the man had a child already so he wouldn't be disappointed about only taking care of a step son."
Lin Ye didn't miss the slight disappointment in her own tone.
It made him wonder whether it was because she didn't want to have other kids or she couldn't.
Either way, it did not make a difference to him. In fact, it relieved him. Just now he had been feeling depressed that Yun Xuan still liked her ex husband. Fortunately, it was only because she would not have other kids that she wanted to marry a man with a child.
"Xuanxuan, Yun Feng is such an adorable child. Any man who gets the chance to be his father would be the luckiest man on earth."
Yun Xuan was surprised that there was someone who would refer to Yun Feng as a good child. Of course, he was the best child in her eyes since she was his mother and she loved him. However, he was so unfriendly to most people that she didn't expect anyone aside from Xia Rou to find him loveable. Her lips curled up into a smile.
"You think so?"
"Yes. And I'm not saying this just because he's your son. I would like him even if he was someone else's child. So Xuanxuan, your future husband doesn't have to be a father for him to accept Yun Feng as your only child. Even an unmarried man with no past relationship would accept him. Actually..."
He was going to say that if he was given that chance, he would be the happiest man on earth. But he thought it was a bit too early and such words might give him away so he changed his words. "Actually, past relationships don't matter when it comes to this. Perhaps men with kids might be worse. They might spend all their time making things difficult for your son in the name of not wanting to make their own kids uncomfortable. What would happen to little Feng then?"
Yun Xuan felt his words made sense.
"However, I don't think my marriage would be based on love. My heart is already numb to love after being broken twice."
Lin Ye already knew this and he was happy that she told him so freely. It proved that she was not that unwilling to be with another man. She was just scared.
"Have you heard of this saying?"
"What saying?"
"Third time's a charm. It works for everything. Who knows? Your third love might heal up all your heart's wounds and never break it again. You just have to give him a chance."
Yun Xuan frowned and looked at the man a short distance from her. "Why do your words sound so strange?"
