Chapter 229 Having a feast
"So, how did you recover, father? We tried numerous kinds of medicine, but none of them could help you even in the slightest. Some of them even cost us a fortune," James inquired, his eyes fixed on his father's now-healthy face. He found it hard to believe that his father had fully recovered.
He vividly remembered the relentless efforts he, his mother, and sisters had put in to find a cure for his father. They had spent a small fortune on expensive medicines, hoping they would bring relief. But in the end, disappointment was all they had met.
Madam Layla chuckled at James's surprise. "I suppose you're taken aback by your father's sudden recovery. It's all thanks to your brother-in-law, Yuan. He cured your father and restored him to perfect health. His arrival in our village has truly been a blessing."
"Huh? Brother-in-law Yuan cured father!? But how?! We tried so many medicines, but none of them worked. How did he do it?" James was astonished by his mother's revelation. He found it hard to believe that Yuan was the one behind his father's recovery. Yet, given all the extraordinary things Yuan and his wives had accomplished, he chose to trust his mother's words. After all, for a person who could fly freely in the sky, curing his father must be a small feat, right?
'Sigh! I guess there's nothing impossible for Yuan. After all, his very existence doesn't make any sense...' James sighed inwardly.
Madam Layla continued, "Your brother-in-law produced a mysterious pill out of thin air and gave it to your father. The moment he swallowed it, he began to recover, and in just an instant, he was perfectly healthy again."
"A mysterious pill, you say? To cure my father the moment he swallowed it, the pill must be extremely valuable. I wonder where he acquired such a mysterious thing..." James mused, his finger gently touching his chin, lost in thought about the enigmatic pill Yuan had given his father.
After a moment, Rose gently rose from her father's side, casting a warm glance toward her mother. "Mother, since father has finally recovered from his illness after fighting against it for a very long time, and we'll also leave the village tomorrow. How about we celebrate our father's recovery?"
Hearing this, Julie's eyes lit up. "I also agree with big sis Rose, we should celebrate for our father's recovery."n(/0velb1n
"Me too, I also think the same," Ava nodded eagerly. She was truly overjoyed to see her father on the mend and wanted to mark this moment.
Madam Layla smiled at her daughters' enthusiastic response. She felt a deep sense of contentment seeing her family united and whole. "Well, since you all appear to be so enthusiastic about celebrating your father's recovery, we shall have a feast tonight in his honor!"
Observing his wife and children's exuberance, Issac shook his head. "Is it really necessary for you guys to celebrate my recovery!? Aren't you making an exaggeration of my recovery!?"
"Oh, shut your mouth you dumbass!" Madam Layla's retort was sharp and immediate, effectively silencing him. She frowned, her tone firm. "Can't you see how happy your children are now that you've recovered!? You're truly the most foolish person I've ever known. Now, I understand why our son turned out to be so daft."
Inwardly, Madam Layla couldn't help but mutter with a trace of irritation, "Because you're being dense, our son James also turned out to be just as dense as you, unable to win a lady's heart... If this continues, he'll spend his entire life single and die a virgin."
James had struggled in matters of love and relationships, unlike his friends who had already started families. Madam Layla couldn't help but blame her husband for their son's lack of romantic prowess.
"Can't you see that I've just recovered!? And yet you're already showing your wild, untamed side. Why did I end up falling in love and marrying such an untamed woman?" Issac lamented internally, gazing at Madam Layla with a hint of trepidation.
A few minutes later, Madam Layla turned her attention to her daughters. "Rose, Julie, and Ava, you three go inform Ivy to prepare a feast tonight to celebrate your father's recovery. Also, give her a helping hand in the kitchen so she can finish the preparations in time."
"Very well, mother. We'll go and assist sister Ivy in preparing the feast." Rose promptly nodded, heading towards the exit.
"Wait, I'm also coming, big sis!"
"Me too...!"
Ava and Julie swiftly followed their elder sister Rose to lend a hand to their head maid Ivy and left the room.
Once Rose, Julie, and Ava had departed, Madam Layla turned her attention to her son James. "Have you completed the negotiation task I assigned you earlier? It's crucial for the development of our village."
James proudly nodded. "You don't have to worry, mother. I've smoothly completed the negotiation process with the other party, and we've reached an agreement."
"Is that so? You've done excellent work by successfully negotiating with the merchant. It seems your negotiation skills have improved significantly." Madam Layla expressed her pride and happiness.
"You're being too kind, mother. It was just a small negotiation compared to what big sis Rose handles. I'm nowhere near her level."
For a moment, Issac quietly observed the conversation between his wife and his son. Then, he turned to James with a proud smile. "It appears I've missed out on a lot due to my illness. James, you seem to have matured considerably."
"But he's just as stubborn as you, dear. I had hoped to have a daughter-in-law and hold my grandchildren in my arms, but this foolish son of mine can't even win the heart of a lady... He's utterly clueless when it comes to romance!" Madam Layla's words cut in before James could respond, and her tone held a tinge of disappointment.
"Huh!?" Issac was taken aback hearing his wife's assertion that their son couldn't find a lady at his age. Could James really be as inept as she claimed?
He looked at his son, brows furrowed. "I find it hard to believe that my son, at his age, can't find a lady. It's an absurd notion!"
'What mother said is true, Father. I'm truly inadequate in this aspect. Most of the girls in the village avoid my gaze, and after witnessing the beauty of my brother-in-law's wives, it's hard for me to be interested in anyone else... It seems I'll remain a virgin.' James thought, a touch of melancholy in his mind.
"Hmph! Believe it or not, I've said what I needed to say," Madam Layla replied, her tone nonchalant, leaving the matter at that.
Some time later, Yuan and his wives were gathered in the living room, sipping tea and discussing their travel plans to Monbrook city now that Rose, Julie, and Ava had joined their group.
"Sigh! Selling our horses and relying on flying swords was a mistake," Lily grumbled in frustration, recalling the prized horses they had sold in Roth city.
Those horses were top-tier, favored by noble houses and even royalty.
"Well, none of us foresaw a situation like this. Who would've thought I'd be marrying three wives from this village?" Yuan shook his head, still slightly incredulous.
Anna pondered for a moment and suggested, "How about we ask Madam Layla to arrange a carriage for us? It would be a pleasant journey, and we can take turns driving. It's not too difficult, you'll pick it up quickly."
Yuan considered his mother's idea. It had its merits, especially the bonding time during the journey.
'It's a good plan to ask Madam Layla for a carriage, especially considering Rose, Julie, and Ava can't fly. Besides, I've never ridden in a carriage before, it should be an enjoyable experience.' Yuan reflected.
"It's settled then. We'll ask Madam Layla to arrange a carriage for us," Yuan declared with a smile, and his wives nodded in agreement, content with the decision.
Some time later, Rose entered the living room, a smile lighting up her face as she saw Yuan and his wives engrossed in conversation. She approached them.
"Yuan, sisters, dinner is ready. In celebration of our father's recovery, we've prepared a small feast. It's also our last meal with my parents since my two sisters and I will be joining you from tomorrow onwards." Rose shared her excitement with Yuan and his wives.
"Is that so? Then let's join Madam Layla and Uncle Issac. They must be waiting for us," Yuan suggested, rising from the sofa.
"Very well, and it marks our last night in this village," Anna chimed in, also getting up.
"Indeed," Yuan affirmed. He followed Rose to the dining hall, and his wives trailed behind.
As they walked, Yuan turned to Rose, asking, "Rose, have you packed your clothes and other essentials?"
"Well, not yet. I was busy helping Sister Ivy with the feast," Rose replied, a hint of weariness in her voice.
"I see. And Julie and Ava? Have they packed?"
"They probably haven't, since they were assisting Sister Ivy with me."
"Since you all still have some time, gather your necessities and give them to Mom Anna or anyone else. They'll store your things for you, so you won't have to carry any extra weight."
"I'll do as you say, Yuan," Rose nodded.
After a few more steps, they reached the dining hall. Madam Layla, Uncle Issac, Julie, Ava, and James were already seated at the expansive table, waiting for them.
"You're here! Sit down and enjoy tonight's feast to your heart's content. Xi Meili, don't hold back, eat as much as you like," Madam Layla welcomed them.
Yuan and his wives took their seats at the table. Rose settled beside her mother.
"Since it's a feast, don't hold back, Xi Meili," Yuan encouraged her with a smile.
"You don't have to tell me twice, hubby. I'm thrilled to try everything!" Xi Meili responded, wiping away a drool as she looked over the spread of delicious dishes.
And so, everyone began to enjoy the meal.
