Chapter 409: Chapter 409: A Complete Misunderstanding!
“Which one?” The director leaned in to take a look. His expression revealed surprise but it felt natural as he said, “This one will still be about half an hour.”
He looked at the name that Li Shengxiao pointed out and said with a smile, “Turns out Mr. Li also enjoys Yan Hong’s songs. I’m a fan of hers too. I’ve listened to practically all of her songs.”
In reality, he had no interest in listening to songs ordinarily; he was just grabbing at topics, initiating conversation for the sake of it.
“Is that so?” Li Shengxiao furrowed his brows, his gaze still fixed on the program schedule, on Rong Yan’s name.
He had no interest in who Yan Hong was; he had just promised a certain young lady that he wouldn’t reveal their relationship for the time being.
So, he had casually pointed at a performance scheduled before hers on the list, just to know roughly when she would go on stage.
“Yes,” said the director, noting that he was still looking at the program schedule, a murmur of doubt rising in his heart. What was Mr. Li’s situation, why was he staring at the program schedule non-stop? Could it be… A bold idea sprouted in his mind, but then again, it seemed unlikely. He cautiously observed the man’s profile, trying to confirm his theory. The more he observed, the more certain he became that Li Shengxiao was focusing on Yan Hong’s slot in the program schedule.
A sudden realization dawned on him, and he felt like he had grasped something.
There were rumors about a mysterious woman recently appearing by his side. Judging by the circumstances, could it be… Yan Hong?
Yan Hong had high public recognition, achieved fame early, and was beautiful—it wasn’t entirely implausible…
As he was mulling over the likelihood of this, Li Shengxiao suddenly put down the program schedule he held in his hand and casually mentioned, “I’ve heard that there’s a new singer who will be performing this time?”
The director, caught off guard by the abrupt question, was a bit confused.
With his status, he mostly kept tabs on the most popular artists and established celebrities. When it came to newcomers, he had no clue.
Fortunately, his secretary was quick to respond and quickly filled him in, whispering in his ear, “Director, there are indeed several newcomers who will take the stage this time. One of the artists from KT Entertainment is called Rong Yan. She has been very popular recently and was jointly recommended by the AQ platform and KT Entertainment to the director of the event, so he allotted her time for a song. Mr. Li is probably talking about her.”
The director was still in a fog but caught the main point.
He remembered that KT Entertainment seemed to be a subsidiary of Li Group. So… was Mr. Li implying?
He quickly played along and said, “There is such a person, I’ve heard she’s not bad at singing. But compared to Yan Hong, she definitely lacks experience. With more experience on the stage, she should be even better.”
He figured this way he wouldn’t offend either side, right? He acknowledged the newcomer’s ability while subtly flattering the ‘singer’ Mr. Li liked, all without leaving a trace.
He was silently praising himself for his wit.
But Li Shengxiao’s eyes grew colder, not showing the slightest hint of pleasure at the flattery; rather, it seemed as if he had slapped the flattery on the wrong leg. With an ambiguous tone, he said, “Lacking quite a bit? Oh?”
The woman he cherished should be the best. Who was worthy of making her seem lesser?!
The director, however, misunderstood his meaning, thinking he had not been effusive enough in his praise to satisfy him. Without hesitation, he corrected himself, “No, not lacking quite a bit. Mr. Li, it was a mistake on my part just now. What I meant to say was, although the new starlet isn’t bad, compared to Yan Hong, she definitely falls far more than just ‘a bit’ short!”
