Chapter 427: Like Mother, Like Daughter

-Jade Hotel-

In one of the VVIP reserved dining rooms of the Jade Hotel, a woman in her mid 40s was sitting there wearing an elegant white dress and was waiting for someone while taking a sip of her chamomile tea.

The lady, whose silky black hair was styled in an updo, and was wearing a red lipstick that complimented her white complexion, smiled when she heard the door of the room opening.

“You’re here?” She raised her head as she looked at the person, whom she was waiting for.

” Mom! What are you doing here? You didn’t even tell me that you’re back in the country.” Jia Fei said in surprise to see her mother, whom she hadn’t seen since Jiang Yue’s funeral.

After her Mother moved abroad, she barely gets to see her because of her work commitments.

The last she saw them was at Jiang Yue’s funeral as they came back specially for that. Her mother has always adored Jiang Yue and treated her as her second daughter and it was not less heartbreaking to say goodbye to Jiang Yue for her as well.

.....

Jiang Yue’s mother, Wu Xia smiled to see her daughter and gestured to her to take a seat in front of her, ” Take a seat first. I came back only two days ago and I didn’t get the time to contact you since I was busy meeting with some people.”

” Waah! That’s so unfair. Socializing with other people is more important for you than contacting your daughter first. What a great mother you are.” Jia Fei commented sarcastically but it was all in words.

Her relationship with her mother is more like friends than a mother and daughter relationship. And they take it seriously.

That’s why she could say such words without carrying any meaning to it.

There were times when people misunderstood their relationship and thought they’re at bad terms. But in reality, both of them are simply bad at expressing themselves and prefer speaking in nonchalant ways rather than being close to each other.

As Jia Fei took a seat in front of her mother, she noticed another pair of cutlery prepared next to her seat, ” Mom, is someone else also joining us for dinner?”

Wu Xia looked at her daughter and nodded.

” Who? You should have told me about this beforehand. You know I don’t like to meet those nosy friends of yours. They always try to set me up with their good-for-nothing sons.”

Wu Xia smirked upon hearing her daughter’s words and exclaimed, ” Yeah. Sure. Sure.”

Jia Fei scoffed to see her mother being sarcastic, ” Why are you acting like this? Are you going to treat me-”

Before she could complain to her mother for being sarcastic to her, the door of the room was pushed open once again.

” Apologies for being late Aunty. The phone call was urgent so it was a bit difficult to ignore it.” The man looked at Wu Xia and apologized for leaving her alone for taking the phone call outside.

“You!!!” Jia Fei’s eyes widened to see Yuhan who was talking to her mother as if he was acquainted with her.

What’s going on?

Yuhan saw Jia Fei, whose eyes were widened in shock as if they would pop out of her head and smiled at her meaningfully.

He simply waved at her and took a seat next to her.

Jia Fei was speechless to see how casual he was being around her mother as if they’re friends from the past life.

What mystery game is this? Since when do these two know each other?

“Mom. What’s going on? Do....do you know him? Why is he here?” Jia Fei asked while pointing finger at Yuhan in disbelief.

Wu Xia looked up at her agitated daughter and pressed the button on the side of the table first to call the waitress before answering Jia Fei’s questions.

” You can bring the food that we have ordered earlier.” She asked the waitress to arrange the food on the table that they had ordered before Jia Fei came in.

” Right away Madam.” The waitress nodded and left hurriedly, giving them the privacy to talk to each other.

Jia Fei waited for the waitress to leave the room and as soon as she closed the door behind her, she started questioning her mother, ” Mom, what are you doing? Are you avoiding my question?”

” Forget it. You tell me. What are you doing here? Do you know her? Don’t tell me.... You’re not my mother’s boyfriend, are you?” Jia Fei gasped in horror when she thought about this possibility.

Her parents divorced long ago and have moved in with their life. She was aware that her mother is in a relationship with a man and honestly, she was happy that she is finally moving on with her life and not only worrying about her children.

Her father even remarried and made a new family of himself, why can’t her mother do the same?

Upon seeing the other pair of cutlery, she also had the thought that her mother might have invited her boyfriend to introduce her, but who would have thought that the person was none other than but Yuhan.

” HAVE YOU LOST IT? WHY CAN’T YOU EVER THINK OF NORMAL POSSIBILITIES LIKE OTHER PEOPLE? WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE SO DAMN IMAGINATIVE ALL THE TIME?” Yuhan, who was silent and was looking his best until now, lost his cool upon hearing Jia Fei’s nonsense.

How can she even think of something like this?

Jia Fei blinked to see him reacting like this and cleared her throat, ” It’s fine if it’s not like this. Why are you getting overworked like this?”

Yuhan scoffed to see her covering up for herself and before he could say anything, he heard Jia Fei’s mother say, ” Don’t worry. I have high standards when it comes to men.”

” Moreover, I am not into younger men. They’re no fun.” She added.

Yuhan: “...”

” Hah! That’s why you married dad only after dating for two weeks? I take more time to think before making any plans to go out. Yet you were so reckless when it came to your life’s decision.” Jia Fei commented and shook her head in disappointment.

She doesn’t hate her dad since he is her dad. However, she doesn’t like the way he used to treat her mother.

Even if he was a good dad to her, he failed to be an understanding husband to her mom.

As a woman, she will never like to marry a man who never understands his responsibilities and always puts blame on others for every single thing that goes wrong. Even if it is them who are at fault.

Maybe, that was one of the reasons why she had liked Lin Hui. Because unlike her father, he was a responsible man and never backs away from acknowledging his faults or puts the blame on others recklessly.

” I was blinded by love at that time. People make mistakes and getting married so hastily was one of those biggest mistakes in my life.” Wu Xia sighed as she put away the tea cup that she was drinking earlier and gave Jia Fei the bottle of champagne to open it for her..

Jia Fei snickered before taking the bottle from her hand and said while opening it with a wine opener, ” Well, at least you have an amazing daughter like me.”

” Ah, Let me.” Yuhan insisted and took away the bottle from her.

Jia Fei was baffled momentarily but soon gained her senses and turned to her mother, “You should be glad that I am such a nice daughter. Not everyone is this blessed to have an understanding daughter like me.” Jia Fei complimented herself and flipped her hair back proudly.

” Right. Right. I must have saved the country in my last life to have you as my daughter.” Wu Xia said nonchalant.

Jia Fei wanted to smile but wasn’t sure if she was complimenting her or was being sarcastic again. Her words sounded like a compliment but her emotionless tone and expressions were making her think of otherwise.

She gritted her teeth and glared at her mother. She sure knows how to annoy her.

How come her mother is so skilled at making sarcastic remarks? Her words always sound like a compliment but at the same time it’s not.

It’s always like this. She will not believe her if one day she compliments her for real.

While Jia Fei and her mother were bickering with each other, Yuhan was staring at the two in puzzlement.

‘Did they forget that he also exists in the room? How come the conversation turned into this?’
