Chapter 208 208. Jon Baratheon.
The crowd cheered and clapped happily. The reason why most of them were clapping louder than they wanted to was because they had no intention of pissing off the second-richest man in the city.
This man was capable of destroying a generation's wealth with just the flick of his finger.
Such was the extent of the power and influence he possessed in the city.
Ned Baratheon nodded sagely, completely aware of how scared these ants were of his presence and was now enjoying every moment of it.
He raised his drink in the air and thrust his other hand behind him as a young man began walking forward.
"A toast to my son, Jon Baratheon, for his brilliance and skillful determination in handling the task given to him while working under my guidance, as this has given me the opinion that he is now ready to start his own journey. To Jon Baratheon!!" Ned Baratheon declared with his glass raised higher.
"To Jon Baratheon!!!" The crowd shouted in unison while raising their glasses.
"To Jon Baratheon," Kevin muttered as he raised his glass as well before drinking his wine.
Unlike everyone else whose masks covered half of their faces or all of their faces, only the three Baratheon family members wore a black oval eye mask rather than a mask that was shaped according to their faces.
[So this is to be the new president of Maxflix]. The parasite said, sounding underwhelmed by Ned Baratheon's son.
No matter how she and Kevin saw it, this young man was clearly a puppet. noVe(lb(1n
A young man around the age of 24 with Perfect hair, perfect face, perfect teeth and unblemished skin as well.
With this, it was easy to see that Jon Baratheon had never seen a single bit of hardship in his entire life.
[This makes it certain that he won't be the one in full control of the company,]
"It appears so," Kevin replied while gulping down his drink as Ned Baratheon's words brought his attention back to him.
___
"As much as I would like you all to enjoy the party, I'm pretty sure a lot of you are feeling impatient about the auction. It is no news that we'll be auctioning off a grand thirty per cent shares of Maxflix, which is now a subsidiary company of Baratheon Limited and whoever wins this auction will get future contracts with me. The auction begins at 10 million dollars!!" Ned Baratheon announced and everyone in the hall gasped in surprise.
In less than a second, murmurs could be heard from every part of the hall.
A few calls were made by some while others contemplated whether they could match such a high amount.
Kevin eyed the members of the crowd who were bringing out their phones and making calls like their lives depended on it.
Everyone was under immense pressure to be the winner at the end of the auction because each of them knew that once they had shares in Maxflix, they would also be in direct business with Baratheon Limited and the influence of these two companies alone would take them straight to the top of the social ladder.
[Things certainly seem to be heating up faster than we expected.]
"Indeed, but with 10 million set as the first price, the number of potential buyers will surely be reduced."
[But wouldn't that work in our favor?]
"I guess we'll have to find out for ourselves."
Kevin grabbed a new drink from a waiter who was passing by before glancing around and seeing a few raised hands.
"11 million."
"12 million."
Seeing how some were already bidding, others were then forced to outbid them.
"13 million!!" A man shouted.
"15 million!!" Another man shouted from the crowd.
His bid made everyone in the hall gasp and even more phone calls were made.
"18 million!!!" A woman proposed and the hall became as silent as a graveyard.
A few callers dropped their phones after hearing the latest bid. They knew that bidding higher than that was impossible due to the limited funds they had.
Seeing as how many were becoming reluctant to raise their hands, a smile appeared on Ned Baratheon's face.
"Hmm, we have 18 million!! Is anyone willing to bid higher than this?" He asked, glancing around the hall as many of the bidders dropped their hands while only about seven people were willing to bid higher than 18 million.
But before any of them could open their mouths to speak, a bid was made from the back and the voice reverberated throughout the silent hall, shocking everyone in the hall, including Ned Baratheon, his wife and his son as well.
"30 million!!"
Everyone's eyes widened in disbelief and they all dragged their gazes towards the source of the voice.
It was Kevin.
Kevin smiled back at everyone even though no one could see his expression behind his mask. He came here to make a statement, hence the reason why he bought the latest car model.
He wanted most of the people in the hall to note his name and remember him as the one who won the auction.
He needed everyone to learn that he wasn't here to play around.
The hall remained silent as no one was willing to counter such a price. Then suddenly, a burst of boisterous laughter emerged from the stairs and echoed throughout the hall as Ned Baratheon lost control of himself.
This Kevin Lannister was the best!!
The very best!!
He had heard a lot about this young man in front of him but now he could see that Kevin was the real deal.
Never would he have predicted that Kevin would willingly throw away thirty percent of his net worth in a single night.
It was simply unheard of.
Moreover, Kevin had been regarded as a generational genius with limitless potential, it wouldn't be wrong to say that even Ned Baratheon was interested in getting to know Kevin as well.
"Is anyone willing to bid higher?!!"
