Chapter 2 System?

Evil Apprentice? What's that?

I expected a generic class like swordsman or mage like the one I watched when my co-workers played an RPG game.

Or at least, I get to choose my own class. Wasn't that the case?

"Hey. What class did you choose?"

I heard someone and my ears perked and stealthily made my way closer to their conversation.

"Mage, what else?! They're OP!"

"Mines, swordsman!"

See? Generic classes.

But that was not the point. Why were they given a choice and not me?

They were teenagers, I presume. Did it have to do with age?

"I chose a healer cause I want to heal my old bones," a man in his fifties said.

". . ."

Was it just me?

I looked over at everyone. Most of the younger generations' faces were mixtures of joy and excitement, while the older ones were worried and dread. For those who were just starting out life in the outside world like me . . . well . . . we were impassive about this whole thing.

I approached a man my age and asked, "Hey, did you get a system too?"

The man raised his brow at me. "System?"

"N-never mind." I scratched my head and apologized for disturbing him.

I walked towards a spot with little people and pondered for a moment.

Something was definitely not right here.

Whoa!

I jumped on my feet, garnering eyes towards me. I shifted my head left and right, but no one was beside me.

Then whose grating voice was that? It sounded like a gurgle from a beast.

<Host can change the system voice if you want.>

Huh?

I was definitely hearing things, but then a screen popped in front of me.

I blinked.

System?

That Evil System or whatever? Was it the one talking to me?

In a daze, I pressed the <YES> button.

My voice? What's that supposed to mean? Out of curiosity, I pressed it.

<Pay 10,000 Evil Points>

<I change my mind>

Huh? Evil points?

I pressed pay.

What did it mean that I could ask the System? Like in 'gugle' search?

It was like talking to myself.

Then what is this place? How do I get back to my world? Are my family here? Are they alright?

Eh? What's that supposed to mean?

<Host can only ask questions about his status, skills, spells, class, race, and all accessible information regarding Nordlands.>

That's rather vague.

<Host cannot ask about other people and things that is not related to Nordlands.>

I kind of get what it meant, but I was still confused.

In short, it operated like a tutorial.

Did the others have systems too?

<No. System is only unique to Host>

I grumbled and asked another. Why can't I choose my class?

<It's a fixed class of the Evil System.>

It sounded ominous. Could I remove the System? I don't want that kind of class.

< System is absolute.>

". . ." I didn't like the sound of that.

Is there no way for me to remove it?

I sighed under my breath.

Then what am I supposed to do with it?

<Host can only level up through the System. The System will give Host quests to aid him in his path into becoming an Evil Overlord, the greatest Villain there is!>

Huh?

Who the fucking said that I wanted to be an Evil Overlord? Or a Villain, for that matter?!

<+100 Evil Points is rewarded to Host for his first curse word.>

I don't want it!

I panted. It was exhausting talking to it than actually running ten miles a day.

I massaged my temple and took in a large fresh air.

Anyway, if I was only allowed to level up through the System, then what about the others? And what would I get if I defeated bosses and such?

<The others will gain EXP to level up their attributes through rewards by defeating beasts, monsters, and bosses. They will also gain EXP if they complete quests.>

<Host will only level up his attributes through EXP from the System. Host will only get the loots but not EXP if he defeated beasts, monsters, and bosses and from completing quests that are not given by the System.>

. . . Why is my life difficult? I didn't ask for this. I lamented.

If I was going to be transported to another world, at least let me be like the rest. If you're going to give me a cheat, then give me something that I want, like max attributes on the get-go or something like an OP item or skill.

Feeling resigned, I decided to check the other menu when my screen turned back to normal.
