After hanging up the call, Qin Zhiyou headed straight for the bathroom. Soon after, the sound of him grooming himself could be heard.

When he came out, Lu Weixi was sitting against the bed’s headboard, hugging her blanket, a small lamp was turned on. Her eyes were still somewhat dazed, clearly, she hadn’t fully woken up.

While buttoning his shirt, Qin Zhiyou said softly, “You should rest. It’s still early.”

Lu Weixi nodded, then shook her head, “I can’t sleep.”

Qin Zhiyou briefly paused, understanding that her emotions were likely a turmoil due to her father’s situation. After all, she had mentioned “Dad” throughout her dreams the previous night.

No matter how much she vocally detested Bai Changyou, and despite all her hate towards him, he was, after all, her father. Particularly for someone like Lu Weixi, who appears indifferent on the surface, but is tumultuous within.

He didn’t know what to say to console her nor what he should say. Upon reflection, apart from physical intimacy, their conversations were always about serious matters. He couldn’t even figure out how to start a conversation to cheer her up.

The silence was eventually broken by the sound of Secretary Wang’s car arriving. Qin Zhiyou stood at the edge of the bed, “I am leaving.”

In the same hugging-the-blanket position, Lu Weixi responded with a “Mm”.

“If nothing unexpected happens, I’ll be back tonight. I should be back by around nine.”

“Alright.” Lu Weixi nodded.

“Your father might be returning soon, you should prepare yourself.”

Lu Weixi nodded again: “I know.”

As they spoke, Secretary Wang had already parked the car. Qin Zhiyou, with his head lowered and his hands in his pockets, paused for a bit before adding, “I’m leaving now.”
