Chapter 90 - Apology

Xie Jingyu looked at Yu Huiyin; his eyes were full of hesitation. Should he tell her the truth? Would she even listen to him?

"My relationship with Mo Jinyao is not great," Xie Jingyu said, trying to stall for time while considering what to say. "We are partners at times, and enemies at times. Although we don't mind helping each other out on certain deals, we don't mind seeing the other suffer in defeat either."

"Who is Mo Jinyao?" Yu Huiyin knew that Xie Jingyu was not likely to open up to her easily. Hence, she asked about it in a roundabout way. If he told her who this Mo Jinyao was, he would also admit what kind of person he himself was.

"Why are you so focused on Mo Jinyao?" The eyes of Xie Jingyu turned dark when he heard the question. She should have been rushing to find out about his real identity, why was she still asking about Mo Jinyao?

Could it be that Mo Jinyao had done something to her? Or had she fallen in love with him? Thinking about it was enough to make Xie Jingyu feel as if someone was slicing open his heart and spraying salt on the open wound. It was agonizing.

Yu Huiyin looked at Xie Jingyu, she saw the anger and uneasiness that flitted by his eyes, and could not help but feel a little funny. He had left her alone all day. She was the most scared and uneasy, but he had left her alone, without even the slightest person to talk to. It was only fair that he, too, felt some discomfort.

Snorting, Yu Huiyin looked away, and Xie Jingyu finally realized that something was wrong. Why was she acting like this?

"Dearest, please forgive me," he said, after thinking about it for some time. "I had no choice; I couldn't allow you to contact the police. If you got sent to jail, I don't know what I would do."

Yu Huiyin looked at him with eyes devoid of emotions. "Why was I alone then? Do you know how I felt? I have killed someone for the first time, and then I was held captive by your partner. Do you understand how bad I felt when I woke up, and you were nowhere in sight?

"Not only you, but every single person was also gone. I was all alone, feeling horrible. Looking at the guards stationed outside the mansion; it's clear that I was under house arrest! Imagine how horrible I was feeling!"

Yu Huiyin was truly angry this time. She was not against his other identity, but he had left her alone when she needed him the most, this was not acceptable.

Xie Jingyu seemed to understand where she came from, and his face suddenly turned pale. He hurried to take Yu Huiyin into his embrace, but she struggled.

Unfortunately, he was stronger than her, and soon she was locked in his embrace, her head firmly held against his shoulder.

"I am really sorry," Xie Jingyu said his heartfelt apology. "I had to ensure that the gang you were entangled with would not cause you any more problems. I should have been by your side first, and dealt with them later, but I feared that they would run away. I had to strike fast. I am really sorry for leaving you to be on your own when you were feeling fragile."

Hearing his reasoning made Yu Huiyin calm a bit down, but she was still angry at him. Even if he couldn't be here, couldn't he have left a maid for her to talk with?

"So, what is your other identity?" Yu Huiyin looked at Xie Jingyu, her eyes clear and bright, but Xie Jingyu had a hunch that if he were to lie to her now, she would leave his life and never return.

"I'm the head of the Xiyang Gang," he said after a bit of contemplating. "But the Xiyang Gang is merely a cover for my real identity. I am an arms dealer. My company is called Lingtong, it is currently the most prominent business in the arms market, and I sell both legally and illegally. Although I only sell the weapons and have nothing to do with the rest, it is a grey-zone, and not many approve of it."

"Is that how you got your hands on a whole army? Because you are an arms dealer?" Yu Huiyin was strangely calm after hearing what he said. She was not upset or scared, she was calm and collected, which just made Xie Jingyu feel an even more profound fear for her leaving.

"It is part of it," Xie Jingyu did not deny it, but he kept observing Yu Huiyin's facial expressions, fearful of her suddenly becoming angry.

But contrary to what he had expected, she just nodded her head. "Have you killed someone before?" She suddenly asked, and Xie Jingyu was taken aback.

"I have," he answered honestly. He had killed many before.

Thinking that killing was nothing special to him, she finally understood why he had left her alone. Perhaps to him, it was nothing special to kill someone, and Yu Huiyin realized that if she was going to stay together with Xie Jingyu, then she would, without a doubt, be killing more in the future.

Frowning slightly, she was not sure what to do. She was not worried about herself; she could live anywhere, she was as tenacious as a c.o.c.kroach. But what about her family, if they got mixed up in this, would they be able to manage?

Deep in thought, Yu Huiyin noticed the trembling and the slight fear in Xie Jingyu's eyes, and she could not help but return his embrace.

It was impossible for her to leave this man alone, even when he made her so angry and desolate that she did not know what to do with herself, her heart softened upon seeing him; she was truly a lost cause.
