Chapter 2: CHAPTER 2 - THE DATE

Although I have always been taught to never bow my head for anyone (EVER), my parents have always been a huge exception to that rule, not to mention Chris, who crosses that path whenever he has enough dirt on me to blackmail me to doing the most ridiculous things imaginable. Attending dates is something which I have been forced into for the last six months by my mother, in all honesty this is one of the deals Chris made me agree to for a bet I lost due to my negligence with one of our company's lawsuits. And guess what? ... Chris was the counsel for the opposing team, not that it was much of a shock to me. He has always had a weird habit of making my life a living hell for some reason.

And of course, he was going to listen to everything which unfolds in my date. Even I don't know why I agree to his weird requests sometimes.

Unlike most dates which I have always been forced to attend, this one in particular kept me on my toes. When I first entered the restaurant, the man who waved his hand for my presence had a certain solemness about him. Although he had a faint smile plastered on his face, he was somehow not smiling as well, his eyes stared blankly at me as I took my time to scan his whole figure, right from his perfectly groomed brownish-black hair, till the tip of his toes. He was both silent and intimidating at the same time. I knew the moment I laid eyes on him that he would not be an easy nut to crack, but of course I take a challenges very seriously.

I quickly waved back at him and made my way to the table he sat on which was on the left, furthest from other tables, whilst it gave the best view from the window which was right next to it. When I reached the table, the man stood from his seat as he flashed me a simple smile as he dragged the seat in front of me open and extended his right hand towards me and said, "Good evening miss, I'm Liam Walker, thank you for gracing me with your presence this evening." While leaving a slight peck on the back of my palm. I was taken aback by his sudden gesture that all I could answer him with was, "I, I, ..it's a pleasure Mr Walker, I'm Alicia Adams."

.............

[a few hours before the date]

When I entered Chris's office, I could not believe the great Chris Adams was munching on the chocolate mousse cake he had conned mom to buy for him as an apology to me for going against his own sister. I still don't understand what our parents see in him, he has always been shameless, utterly shameless. He had excused himself from the board meeting to keep me company while we discuss something about his new potential client which happens to be my biggest business rival.

"Hello Mr Adams, I hope you can spear a second for your kid sister" I said scornfully knowing well enough that my sarcastic remarks always rile him up. He glared at me, instantly placing the cake in his hand as he motioned for me to take a seat opposite his. I happily obliged of course. Annoyed by my sudden obedience he started speaking to me as he placed his glasses back on, "What brings little Ally to my office today? Do you finally accept defeat, are you ready to run my firm with me while you leave your company behind?" he asked as he chuckled loudly.

I couldn't help but glare at him hatefully as he knew that the company is something I would never trade for anything in the world.

"Although mom made you agree to date a few men to keep you busy from your workaholic nature, I think it's the perfect time for me to make you face your biggest challenge yet." He said as he smiled at me devilishly.

I looked at him intently to try and decipher his thoughts but all he did was raise his right brow. And with that I nodded at his request silently. What shook me next was when he said, "I want you to enjoy the date with the guy. I'm sure he will be a bit of a challenge for you to handle, but then I guess it's a good price to pay if I must cancel a huge deal with such great returns for your company don't you think?"

I couldn't understand what he meant by 'bit of a challenge' but knowing Chris, he probably planned this whole situation for months before making me do it so I gave him another simple nod and he ended our conversation with the words, "make sure to keep your phone on you the entire time, I want to listen to the whole date. It's a Friday night and I need a little break from work before I go on a weekend work trip."
