Chapter 103 Duke To Progenitor

I looked over at the fight which seemed to be pretty much over. However, in the distance, there seemed to be another creature making its way over. As it walked between the trees, I noticed a white swaying coat jacket; it was incredibly clean, with no marks of dirt or dust.

It felt strong.

Its gait protruded confidence like it was showing its power for the world to see. As it got closer, it managed to see one of its fellow vampires which were lying, heavily wounded, on the ground. Robbie and I took a few steps back, but Josh and Maia didn't seem to take note of it.

"There's another one," said Robbie.

"I'll take care of it, you two can take this vampire back to the camp."

p I guess we'll be using it as a hostage or a method of gathering information. The vampire on the ground was basically completely immobile. It was bleeding from all over its body, staining the ground in a deep red.

Robbie grabbed the vampire and slung it over his shoulder as Maia and Josh prepared to fight the other one which was coming. I decided to leave with Robbie since I didn't really want to be another bystander in a battle.

The two of us made our way back to the settlement and placed the vampire on the ground.

"So what are we going to do with it?" he asked.

"Um, I guess we can ask it some questions."

The vampire was at death's door, but it was still barely conscious. From what I could see, it was regenerating, albeit very slowly. It was probably no faster than the regeneration of a human. The two of us looked at it as it wriggled around, trying to block the sun.

"Ah, it's going to die from the sun."

"Shoot, let's take it inside," said Robbie.

We took it into one of the empty buildings on the outskirts of the settlement.

A few moments later, it muttered something.

"Blood... please... give me blood..."

I guess it'd be worth it for the information.

I drew [Mayuri-Luc-Ei] and made a little cut on the tip of my finger. As tiny droplets of blood leaked out, I lifted my finger over the vampire's mouth, feeding it with my own blood. The moment my blood dripped onto its mouth, it seemed to regain a lot of energy. Its wounds appeared to be healing much quicker, even with the two of us nearby.

Suddenly, the vampire lunged at me and tried to get more blood from my hand. I quickly grabbed its head and smashed it back onto the ground.

"Oi, you only get as much blood as I give you," I said.

It looked at me in despair as I retracted my arm, wiping off the rest of the blood with my sleeve.

It seemed to have gathered enough blood to stay alive for the time being.

I looked down at the vampire, and now that some of its wounds had healed, I was able to distinguish that it seemed to be a young girl. Well, on the outside that was.

"So, why were you walking around the woods, attacking people?"

"...I just wanted... to drink blood."

From what knowledge I had, if the reason for the blood-drinking was similar to hunger, then there wasn't really much reasoning I'd be able to do. However, there were some other things I was interested in.

"Do you have a leader?"

"...a leader...?"

"Yes, do you listen to orders from anyone?"

"...yeah... I have to listen to this tall, white-haired... blood-sucker... Lest is his name."

Wait.

Did she just refer to her leader as a blood-sucker?

Surely that's a derogatory term.

I quickly grabbed her by the collar of her shirt.

"How come you're referring to your leader as a blood-sucker?"

"...eh? What? Why are you hurting... me? I'm sorry..."

I softened my grip.

"Tell me, what are you?"

"Me...? I'm a vampire..."

"Is that all?"

"Well..." I noticed that tears were building up in her eyes, "...I used to be a human."

That was it.

"I see."

I had been thinking about it for a while. It seemed odd that there was no mention of it in the book that was given to me.

Vampires had the ability to make more of themselves.

However, for the others to not have noticed it... I would assume that it'd be one of the most important facts to be included. My only reasoning was that either the groups of people were always wiped out before they could see it happen, or there was some other condition that I was not aware of.

"Tell me, did you become a vampire after getting bitten?"

"...yes... it was a few days ago..."

What could the condition be?

I racked my brain for a conclusion.

From the previous fight, I assumed that this girl was one of the 'upper vampires' which meant that she was quite strong. If the vampires had the ability to create such powerful members, there would be no end to their slaughter of us. There must be a condition somewhere, something that stops them from making so many, otherwise, we'd already be overrun.

"Was the it white-haired vampire who bit you?"

"Yes..."

White-haired vampire. Was it the one that came after we fought her?

I tried to think.

"Robbie, do you have any idea of how vampires might be making more of themselves?"

"I have no idea."

Ah, so Robbie's a retard.

I was on my own here.

Hold on, if the white-haired vampire was a vampire of higher rank. That must mean that it'd be stronger than the 'upper vampires'. It would have to be significantly stronger than the vampires we'd fought up until this point.

If that were the case, Josh and Maia might be screwed...

I decided to check the Global Rankings just in case.

I knew it.

From what I could see, Josh must have been killed.

"Hey, Robbie."

"Yeah?"

"Josh is dead."

"How do you know?"

"Check the Global Rankings."

A moment later, Robbie also came to the realisation.
