Chapter 115 William To Elf Girl

Conveniently, the money was absorbed into my inventory, so I didn't have to carry it around everywhere. After collecting my Express VIP Money Card, I left the bank and made my way down the clean, comforting street once again.

I didn't have anything in particular that I wanted to do so I decided to just take a short walk and explore the city. Now that I had a decent amount of money, I'd be able to buy things that caught my fancy.

The city was extremely large. It was split into separate sections, with residential, commercial and industrial zones. I was wandering around the town centre, there were lots of different plants and flowers which gave the entire area a nice atmosphere. After a little while, I decided to take a seat on a bench and enjoy the view.

From here, you wouldn't even think that we were in the middle of the apocalypse. For the past several weeks, I've either been worrying about zombies, vampires or freezing to death. With this view, it made those thoughts feel crazy as if the world was nothing but sunshine and rainbows.

However, I assumed that this wouldn't last long. Eventually, more and more people would be displaced due to the vampires and I'd likely have to go back to the battlefield. But I still wanted to enjoy this, as long as it'd last.

After staring at the water fountain in the middle of the park for a little while, I decided to get up and have some lunch. I had more than enough Krena for a decent meal and the elven development provided lots of different options.

As I made my way through the street, I heard a slight commotion coming from the distance.

"...we're starving, it's because you stupid elves are so selfish!"

Huh? What was going on?

"...n-no... please stop... I'm sorry..."

"...quick take her money..."

"...I can't find it..."

"...it's probably under her clothes somewhere..."

Ah, this was not good.

I didn't really care all that much but I decided to have a look anyway.

The noise was coming from an alleyway which was somewhat separated from the main street. Following the voices, I made my way over and saw several people grabbing and assaulting a little elf girl. It was quite the uncomfortable scene.

As I showed myself around the corner, they all looked over at me.

"Ah! It's another human, hey, come help us, we're going to get some money!"

It was pretty clear what was going on.

"You're pretty poor aren't you? Don't tell anyone and we'll split some of the money with you."

Ah, how gross.

"Sorry, but I'm not suffering from the same problems that you guys are."

"Huh? Don't tell me..."

"I'd leave her alone if I was you."

I had no qualms about getting in a fight, however, it would probably be less of a hassle if I could deal with this without angering the human population here or causing a big commotion and causing issues between the elves and humans. After taking a short moment to think about my options, I decided that I'd lift up my sleeve a little.

My [Silver Armband] was clearly in view for all of them to see.

"Holy shit, he's a leaderboarder!"

"Crap, let's get out of here."

They quickly let go of the girl and rushed in the opposite direction. A few moments later, the entire area was filled with the sound of silence. I slowly made my way over to the elf girl who was huddled up on the ground.

From what I could tell, she had suffered some injuries from the people who were attacking her. There were a few scratches here and there but there looked a be a pretty major bleed on her head. Blood was dribbling onto the ground as she slowly lifted up her head.

"Don't move too much," I told her.

The girl slowly turned to look at me.

I walked up to her and picked her up off the ground. I felt blood begin to stain my skin as she lay in my arms. Contrary to how she looked from afar, she seemed to be much older than I expected. Based on her looks, she was probably of similar age to me, if not older. She gently grabbed onto my shirt as I began carrying her back onto the street.

I wonder where the nearest medical centre was.

I remember seeing one near the gate when I just arrived, although that was a pretty significant distance away from where I was. As I walked along the street, I could hear her gentle breathing in my arms.

The main issue currently was that I didn't really want to bring to light the racial tension between our two races. If the elves found out that humans were attacking young elven girls, the consequences would likely be pretty bad. It might even escalate to the point where humans could be kicked out of the city entirely.

Spreading this cycle of hate wouldn't be good for anybody.

I might have to act as a warrior of justice and punish those humans who were attacking her. The concept didn't sound that appealing to me, but it was one of the only things I could do if I wanted to keep the peace between elves and humans.

The other problem was that once I brought her to a medical centre, they'll probably ask her about what had happened. When they do, there wouldn't really be a good way to keep the incident a secret. I'd likely have to try to convince the doctor that I'd punish the criminals personally.

Turns out this was going to be a bigger hassle than I had originally expected.

Whatever the case was, I still needed to find a medical centre first. She was bleeding pretty profusely from her head and definitely needed medical attention fast.

I didn't want to move too quickly the worry of hurting her even further.

"...who are you...?" suddenly, I heard her light voice.

"I'm a self-proclaimed hero of justice now, I guess."

I mean, was I wrong though?

I was single-handedly preserving the peace between elves and humans.
