Chapter 163 Meeting An Old Friend?

A few moments later, the ball was passed over to us and he managed to get control of it. I moved in to tackle him but it seemed that he just passed it off.

Everyone ran around for a few more minutes before Yamada got heated once again.

"Why are you guys so useless? Just pass the ball over to me, I'm literally right in front of you!"

"Yamada, this is a team game."

"Shut up! Do you guys want to win or not?!"

The boy I was talking to walked over.

"Yamada, you need to calm down."

"Go away! You're an overrated piece of shit." He grabbed the boy by the collar. A few boys ran over but he gestured for them to stay back.

"I don't think you understand."

"What do you mean?!"

"It's precisely this part of you that caused you to not be selected for the A-team."

"Shut up! The coach is just an idiot."

"Yamada, let go of me."

Yamada tightened his grip, pinching his skin before he let go.

"You need to take a break,"

Yamada was pretty clearly angry, added with the heat, his face was as red as a tomato.

Seeing the mood, most people dispersed and joined up into small groups to have chats. It seemed that soccer time was over.

"Huh? Where am I?"

"Alister."

In the bright blue open space, Alister sat, facing a goddess of the afterworld.

"What is this place?"

"This is the afterlife."

"Wait, I'm dead?"

"Yes."

The memories of his death suddenly flushed back into his head. After a moment of despair, his mind was swiftly cleared and replaced with the unyielding apathy that plagued all of the outcomes.

"I assumed you've just remembered." She said.

"Yes."

"Now, you know William Hunter, correct?"

"Yes, I know him relatively well."

"You will be sent to this new world where he is also staying, however, he doesn't have his memories, unlike you."

The outcome is known for embracing change.

"I see."

"Just follow along with his mission and support him as well as you can."

"Is that all?"

"For the most part."

After a little more explanation about the situation and circumstances with Freya, the portal was opened, leading to the new world. "Please do well and support him as much as you can, I'm counting on you." Eventually, Alister was consumed by the rays of bright white light.

"There are tough opponents in this new world, however, once William unlocks the power that he used to have, he will be able to face everything."

Why did a shiver just run down my spine?

I heard someone say my name.

"I just needed to see a friend, his name is William."

I looked around. It was a voice I didn't really recognise. I decided that going and speaking to him was the best idea, if they knew me, there was a chance that they could've been an ally. I stepped outside of the pitch.

"It's really you!" the boy shouted.

"I suppose so," I responded

"Can we talk in private?" he asked.

He was someone who I didn't recognise, although his demeanour seemed relatively friendly. With my sword on my hip, I decided to take him up on the offer and followed him to a more secluded place.

"Um so who exactly are you?"

"I'm Alister, do you remember me?"

"Alister... doesn't ring a bell."

"Oh, I had heard about your memory loss."

Memory loss?

"You know about the goddess Freya, right?" he suddenly confessed.

Doesn't ring a bell.

"Um... no...?" I asked.

"Well, I was reincarnated."

"So, you also come from another world?"

Honestly, at this point, I wasn't even surprised.

"Yes, the same one you came from."

Huh? What was going on?

Wasn't everyone just sent here?

"Me... I don't understand, who exactly are you referring to?"

"Freya didn't explain it to me very well."

"But it's something to do with your past lives."

Hold on.

Past lives? Plural? Hold on, that might just be a mistake.

"I had multiple lives in the past?"

"Yeah, you had two lives before this one."

"What..."

My brain was boggled. Who was this person? I didn't understand.

"William, do you remember anything about your past lives?"

"Not... that I know of...?"

"That's a shame, we were good friends you know? Well, kind of friends, you never thought of me as one, but I did grudgingly accept you as an ally."

"I don't understand..."

"I'm not surprised, you don't sound a lot like the William I knew, if Freya hadn't told me, I would've never guessed that you were him."

I wondered about how much information he had.

"Do you remember much about your past life?" I asked.

"Me? Well, I have some memories of us working together. You were really someone special."

Me... Someone special?

"I assume you'd want to know, so no, like you I don't possess a system, so I've had to fight the traditional way."

No way... he's been surviving all this time without a system?

"But how..."

"It's not hard to kill someone who is dumber than you, as long as I don't get led out into the open, it's not that hard."

"But what if you get into a fight head-on?"

"I'll steal a quote from the old you, 'A smart person can simply be killed by a bullet from any random person, but a smart person would never get in a position where he can be killed by a bullet. Despite you giving me that advice, you never followed it yourself."

"A quote... from me...?"

"I'd say I'm pretty smart, the people from this world don't even compare to the people of our old world in terms of intelligence. As smart as I think I am, however, I'm not you, my risk-taking and calculating abilities aren't even close to what you used to be capable of. Though, seeing you in this state, I'm both hurt and a little relieved."

"I don't understand..."

"Of course, you don't, but hopefully one day you will."

The two of us stood there silently.

Nothing was really making sense.

However, he left without saying another word to me.

Ah, I guess I'll think about this later, the offensive operation is tomorrow after all.

I need to prepare for that.
