Essence Core - A crystal filled with a mystical energy that can be found inside beasts that appear in dimensional doors. These cores range in strength depending on how powerful the beast that it was contained in. They have a variety of uses, such as powering technology or making enchanted weapons and armor. The stronger the core, the more powerful the weapon or armor that can be made, and the more energy that can be extracted.

Once Chris and Milo took their positions, Mr. Kruz signaled the start of the match. Chris knew getting close to Milo was a bad idea given his power so he threw a fireball at him to start. Seeing this coming, Milo activated his ability, dropping the temperature around him. Once the fireball got close the cold air put the flame out.
"Damn," said Chris, "I was really hoping that would work."
After seeing his initial idea didn't work Chris decided on his other approach, coating his arms in flames and charging forward. However Milo stood still and chose to trust that his cold would put out Chris's flames, and he was right, when Chris got too close, the flames on his arms sputtered out. As soon as this happened he backed away.
Milo hadn't moved an inch but none of Chris's attempts seemed to be working. The other students seeing this thought it was game over. Chris wasn't done though.
"Didn't think I'd have to pull out my trump card today, but oh well," he said.
After speaking this line, Milo became intrigued as to what his plan may be, but the next second a huge amount of flames erupted from where Chris was standing, it was something Milo hadn't expected but it ended up balancing out the temperature in the room and because of this, Chris could finally get in close. He ran in close and threw a swing.
At this point he was no longer spewing out flames and just let the original flame storm he sent out originally grow to cancel out Milo's frost. When seeing this Milo knew he needed to deactivate his frost as it wasn't doing anything. Instead he opted into reinforcing his body, swapping out the ability he was using, because of this when getting hit in the stomach by Chris there was no big damage done to Milo and instead Chris's eyes went wide.
"He's like a freaking boulder," was the only thing that went through Chris's head.
In the next second a strong blow was felt in his gut and he wheezed as the air was knocked out of him.
"Damn, he hits like a truck too."
Seeing Chris hunched over wheezing to catch his breath, Mr. Kruz called the end of the match and named Milo the victor.
Milo then helped Chris to his feet, as Mr. Kruz put out the remaining flames around the practical training room.
"Damn dude, you're sturdy as hell and have a helluva right hook."
Milo bashfully scratched the back of his head and thanked Chris for the compliment. After the flames were put out and everyone gathered around Mr. Kruz, he called Milo up to the front and presented him with the intermediate essence core. The minute he got his hands on it, Milo was excited to go up to his room and see what would happen when he absorbed the essence core's energy.
"This concludes class, make sure to get some rest and I will see you all at our next meeting time."
The minute he heard Mr. Kruz say that class had ended, he sprinted back to his dorm as fast as he could so he could test absorbing the essence core.
