Chapter 60 59 - The Gate III

When walking into the boss chamber, the group moved slowly to scout out the beast they would be fighting before engaging it in combat. The ceiling of the chamber was much higher than any of the other rooms they had been in so far and there were bones strewn about, most likely from the beasts the boss had eaten.

When closing a gate, the beasts you fought generally determined how powerful a boss was, the easier time you had beating the beasts leading to the boss room, the harder the boss would be and vice versa. Because of the beasts they had defeated on their way, Milo and his squad were expecting the boss of the gate to be pretty tough.

Walking forward, the group finally laid their eyes on the boss of the gate. The boss looked similar to a bird, only it was the size of an elephant, it had black feathers with speckles of gold strewn throughout and massive talons that could tear each of the group to ribbons. Opening the inspect screen, Milo gulped.

A unique rank beast that generally only attacks those who enter their territory. They have a nasty tendency to shoot off electricity when flapping their wings.

Reading the description, the squad would be jumping from uncommon rank straight to a unique rank beast.

Since fighting the uncommon tier spider the first time, Maria seemed to feel that she had something to prove, being the only one who had received any serious injuries since entering the gate. And because of this she took many more risks in the fights after being hurt. Seeing that the beast was sleeping in a large pile of bones, she thought it would be the perfect chance to launch an all out attack to hurt the beast before it woke up.

Before consulting with her team, and trying to find out the identity of the beast, Maria let loose a massive bolt of lightning. The minute it hit the bird she shouted in excitement. That was until it opened its bright yellow eyes and let out an ear splitting screech.

"Why'd you do that, all you did was piss the thing off," Milo screamed, "it's an electric attribute beast, it probably didn't even hurt it."

The group then split up as bolts of electricity shot out while the bird flapped its wings to take off into the air. Chloe was firing bolt after bolt changing her position but it didn't seem to be doing any significant damage and only seemed to make the beast more mad. After taking off, Zach was useless due to him needing close range combat, so he took cover behind a pile of bones. It was perfect timing too as a bolt of electricity shot towards where he once was leaving a large scorch mark on the ground.

With the bird in the air, the group would be unable to do anything, realizing this, Milo did the only thing he thought he could do, Milo threw out the chain sickle wrapping it around the foot of the massive bird and activated his reinforce ability in his arms, before yanking the bird downwards as hard as he could. Unknown to Milo, the strength he used was much stronger than he was expecting and the bird crashed into the ground creating a decent sized crater where it landed.

The group took this opportunity to jump in, hacking and slashing at the beast, while Luke shielded them with his ability when the bird counterattacked. It was at this point Maria ran forward and jumped up to try and stab the bird near its head, when this happened though the bird launched her into the air with its wing. When seeing this, Milo began to see the world in slow motion, as she began to fall the bird let off an electricity barrage forcing the team that was still in close to retreat. As this happened the bird lifted its mouth to the sky in an attempt to swallow Maria.

At that moment, Milo activated the reinforcement in his legs and launched himself towards Maria, as the bird was about to snap her up, Milo caught her avoiding the bird's huge beak in the process. After landing on the ground, Maria thanked him while blushing. Milo chose not to think anything of it and set her down before turning to see the bird taking off again. Seeing this Milo chose to use this moment to use a special skill he had been putting together. Swinging out his chain he froze the chain in place essentially making a long handle, before forming a massive blade on the end. Then he jumped into the air and swung downwards as hard as he could on the bird's massive neck.

The bird was caught off guard as its head separated from its body. Milo had increased his ability so high that he could create a blade of ice so sharp, a piece of paper could be sliced by dropping it onto the blade from above. The wicked sharp blade Milo made cut through the bird's flesh like butter and after losing its head, the body of the massive bird fell to the ground with a thud.
