Chapter 72 71 - Hatching

After getting to his room, Milo put on the dimensional storage earring and went in the bathroom, he had some things he wanted to test and after putting the gauntlets in the ear ring's storage space, he then resummoned them, when doing so a sort of rainbow mist emitted from the earring and covered his forearms before solidifying into the gauntlets. The entire process took about two seconds.

He then went about the same process, only this time, he placed the gauntlets in his inventory before taking them out again, this time the gauntlets didn't automatically equip and instead appeared in his hands.

This was good information to have, based on the information he had gathered, he decided to put all his equipment in the earring and any loot he collected, such as essence cores or beast parts, he'd store in the system inventory. That way he could equip his gear directly without having to put it on.

After doing so, Milo looked into the mirror and noted how different he looked with the earring hanging from his ear. It had a black setting and the dimensional storage gem was a deep purple in color. It made him look a bit tougher.

After doing so, he equipped the gauntlets and opened his status screen to look at the changes they brought to his stats.

Milo added the new free stat points he got from copying a new ability to his stamina stat to better balance all his stats. The gauntlets did just as they said and raised his strength by eight and his constitution by three, he found that this stacked with the accessories he already had equipped from completing quests earlier in the school year. After finishing checking out his status screen, he stored the gauntlets and just like when they were equipped, they turned into a rainbow mist before entering the earring. After storing the gauntlets, he did the same with his chain sickle so that all his gear was in one place.

Once he was done with his tests and storing his equipment, Milo thought it would be a good idea to check out the fusion skill, after upgrading his inspect skill, it took away his main use of telepath, as the inspect skill now included the recent thoughts of the target when using it. He opened his fusion skill and the screen for the skill appeared.

Milo selected the Telepath ability as the first slot to see if any of his current abilities were compatible. When opening the second drop down that would display any compatible abilities, Milo saw one that he wasn't expecting. When considering what could come from combining the two abilities Milo couldn't think of what evolutions to the ability would occur. He shrugged and clicked the confirm button after selecting the second ability. Based on his past experience, Milo couldn't think of anything bad coming out of combining the two abilities.

Once again the two balls of energy emerged from his chest before combining into one, chains then shot out wrapping around the ball before it was pulled back into his chest. Signaling the fusion skill's success. Right then a screen popped up.

The ability that was compatible with Telepath was the Beast Tamer ability that originally belonged to Zach. After combining, the new ability that appeared in Milo's status screen was called Beast Whisperer. The system described the ability as being able to communicate and read the feelings of beasts, it also still functioned like the Beast Tamer where Milo could imprint on a beast and tame it.

Seeing the new ability, Milo was happy that he could find a good combo for the telepath ability, as it was a nostalgic ability for him, being the first one he ever used the system to copy. Not only this, but his new ability would be extremely useful once he tamed a beast of his own, as well as know what a beast was thinking while in a gate.

While lost in thought about what the new ability would be able to do and also what beast would suit him best to tame, a notification came through on his holo from Zach. Clicking on the notification, Milo opened a message that was asking him to come down to Zach's room, apparently the thunderhawk egg he had imprinted on was moving and Zach wanted someone's help in case it would hatch.

Milo had nothing better to do, as he had already finished all his work from classes, so he left his room and made his way down to Zach's. Walking through the door, Zach had no roommates assigned to him by the school due to the nature of his ability, which left Zach alone in his room with the egg resting on his bed. Just like Zach had said in his message, the egg seemed to shake every so often so Milo activated his inspect skill which said that the egg was about to hatch.

Seeing this, Milo knew it wouldn't be long before the egg hatched so he took a seat near Zach and waited. Zach noticed the new earring and inquired about it, leading to them having a conversation about the equipment Milo had purchased. This led to another conversation about what type of equipment they would be looking for. A few minutes of speaking later, the egg resting on the bed began to vibrate slightly.

Seeing this, Milo and Zach stopped talking and instead chose to focus on the egg that seemed like it would crack any second. The egg continued to vibrate faster and faster until Milo and Zach began to become slightly worried. Soon the egg began to emit short jolts of electricity that would arc around the surface of the egg's shell.

"I have a bad feeling about this," Milo said.

The electricity arcing around the egg began to increase, eventually Zach and Milo took cover as electricity jumped off the egg zapping nearby objects. Once the pair dove down into cover, a crack was heard and electricity was fired off in all directions. Had Zach and Milo not taken cover they would've been fried by the bolts of electricity let loose by the egg. After the electricity seemed to calm down, Milo and Zach peeked over the edge of the bed to make sure that they were in the clear. When peeking over the top, they found the egg in pieces, and a small chick was standing where the egg once sat, staring back at the two friends.
