Chapter 85 84 - New Equipment

After his date with Maria, Milo's days began to blur by as the day he'd be returning home to New York for the summer grew closer. He had since told Ms. Teller that he wanted to do a summer internship and would receive his assignment, either the GAA or a guild, the day he returned to New York.

To help the days go by faster, Milo continued to train in the combat hall, hang out with his friends, and did some grinding in the Sim Room. Because of this he had leveled up one more time, bringing his level up to 26. Which caused his stats to grow once again:

He had also increased the level of all of his abilities a bit more, other than the Beast Whisperer ability, which he hadn't been able to use much. He had used it once to read Waki's thoughts, but all he got from the little beast was the word food on repeat, which made some sense considering how gluttonous he was.

By raising the level of his Reinforce ability, he once again saw a small increase in the strength that it allowed him to use, he also was able to form ice a tad bit faster after increasing the Ice ability's level by one. The biggest change in Milo's abilities was in the Hunter's Eye ability, by increasing it two more levels, he was able to see different colored highlights in his vision when using the ability, he found that red was vital points such as the heart or brain, and yellow showed weaknesses in the target's body, such as tendons that would take away the target's ability to use their limbs. Milo wanted to raise the ability even higher to see what other types of weaknesses it would allow him to see.

Milo wasn't the only one who had stayed busy the past few days, Chris and Mark continued their training hoping to join him and Zach in the X ranked class at the start of their second year. Zach and Krista had been hanging out quite a bit making Milo wonder if they had decided to start dating officially yet. Allana seemed to have gone quiet since the festival, Milo wasn't sure why but guessed that maybe she had already returned back home.

Lastly was Maria, their date, the two had been messaging back and forth more, she had gone back to England the day after their date, and like Milo, was also going to be doing a summer internship. All the X ranked students who agreed to do internships would receive their assignments for where they'd be working once all the students had arrived back at their hometowns, meaning that Maria would have some free time back home before she would be assigned to either the association or a guild.

Milo was laying in bed the day before he was to receive his new piece of equipment, wondering what his fate had in store for him when it came to his summer internship. He would find out in the next few days, but waiting was making him more and more anxious to finally find out where he'd be interning at. Eventually he nodded off to sleep, tomorrow was a big day, it would be the day he'd be receiving his new chest piece.

When waking up the next morning, Mark and Chris were still in bed sleeping, since they had started training more, the pair had been sleeping in longer than usual. Milo was tempted to mess with the two but decided to spare them as he didn't want to get an earful about it later. After brushing his teeth and taking a shower, Milo received a notification on his holo, the one he had been excited to see for the past few days. Avery had sent him a message letting him know his chest piece had been completed, and he could stop by whenever to pick it up.

After reading the message Milo threw on some clothes and ran all the way to the smithing hall where he had first met Avery, when he arrived, he made his way over to the room where he had asked them to forge him a piece of equipment, and when walking through the door, Avery was already hammering away at a new piece of equipment, Milo couldn't help but admire how hard of a worker they were.

Seeing that Milo had arrived, Avery said, "you got here sooner than I thought," pausing their hammering on the unfinished piece of equipment laying in front of them. It appeared to be a shield of some kind, but was still too early in the creation process for Milo to be sure.

Milo's eyes were then drawn to the table in front of Avery, where there was the shape of a chest piece covered by a black, opaque cloth. Avery grinned under their mask before ripping away the sheet, revealing the armor underneath. Once the cloth was removed, Milo was looking at a beautiful piece of armor, its overall material was a black metal of some kind. On the shoulders, Milo could see what looked similar to talons gripping the shoulders of the chest piece, and on the chest was a silver ornament that appeared to be a set of wings. Milo was in awe of the piece of equipment laying before him.

"Don't let your jaw drop yet, I know it looks pretty, but its what's inside that matters," Avery said, sounding as if they were proud of themself.

Hearing his smith say this, Milo finally did what he should've done from the start, and opened his inspect skill.

Description: A chest piece created by Avery Becket, it offers superb protection, especially against the electric element. Due to the excellent craftsmanship, it offers more powerful boosts to stats, as well as two active skills. Its design pays homage to the beast that was used to create it.

Reading through the screen in front of him, Milo was beyond impressed, it was probably comparable to a heroic piece of equipment, and not only did it have an attached skill, it had two of them. One of the skills even nullified lightning element attacks, allowing him to be more effective when fighting electric type beasts and ability users.

"Well what do you think?" Avery asked.

"It's beyond my expectations, I knew you were good, but didn't think you were this good. It's amazing," Milo said smiling.

"Glad to hear it," Avery said, "if it ever needs repairs then you know where to find me."

Avery then pulled off their smithing mask up, revealing their face for the first time and stuck out their hand for a handshake. Seeing what Avery looked like Milo was in shock. They had caramel colored skin, bright blue, almond shaped eyes, and a button nose.

Seeing Avery's true appearance, he was surprised. Since they, or she had only talked to Milo up until now wearing a smithing mask, Milo had never considered the possibility of Avery being a girl.

Seeing his jaw drop, Avery started to giggle and dropped her hand, making her seem more like a girl now. "Is it really that surprising that I'm a girl?" She asked.

Milo collected himself before answering, "Well since seeing you handle that other guy 5 days ago and since we had only talked while you had your mask on I could only assume you were a guy."

"Well surprise," she said, still laughing. "You already paid, so it's all yours," she said, gesturing to the chest piece, "Now I have a lot of work to do, so you can see yourself out when you're ready."

Milo put his hand on the chest piece and placed it into his dimensional storage earring. After it had turned to mist and entered the dimensional storage, Milo said one more thanks to Avery before he returned back to his dorm to show off his new equipment. He couldn't wait to test it out.
