Chapter 333 - My SI Stash #33 - A Superior Journey into the World of Pokemon by DarkDrawerJ (Pokemon)

-I always remembered Paul as that one big tryhard so being a !SIPaul with future knowledge and less edginess it would be pretty great to see him reach higher levels and i'm just hoping Cynthia to be the MC's pairing or just no pairing at all/ Hopefully the author won't burn out like the others.

Synopsis: Ash's greatest rival will become better than ever! He may need to change his strategy for training, but he won't let that deter him. Surpassing Ash, Tobias, and even Cynthia is his goal! Paul Si/OC

Chapter 1

My eyes open. It's a new day. I- I do not remember going to sleep in this bed. I get up from it. What kind of clothes are these? I walk over to a desk with my backpack, wait my backpack? Why would I think of this as my backpack? Hmph, whatever. Some hair covers some of my sight while I tilt my head. What? Why is my hair purple? Rushing to my mirror, I trip over my own legs. "Ghuh." I slowly rise to see my face in the mirror. "What?"

One week later

Electricity fills the air as an Elekid spins its arms. Soon, he will arrive. I'm in the exact situation as before with a few deviations. Nevertheless, he should arrive soon. Everything should be going according to plan. Starly scatter in response to the electricity. I won't be capturing any more than necessary. It's going to be different. Soon, a Starly flies over towards the electricity Elekid created and glides around. I won't make the mistake of wasting a poke ball on a captured Pokémon.

"Starly over here!" Ash and Brock have arrived, right on time. Starling flies over and lands on my rival's head. It's time for my entrance into the world of Pokémon!

"I'll thank you and your Starly to stay out of my way." It's quick and to the point.

"I didn't know anyone else was out here but us, really." Ash scratched the back of his head in embarrassment. Of course, there'd be other trainers out in the forest trying to catch Pokémon. How conceited do you have to be to think otherwise? A big forest full of prime Pokémon is gold for aspiring trainers. I hold my tongue, but my thoughts are rolling out of my head faster than they can finish their lines.

"It must've been his Elekid that launched that electric attack." Thanks for pointing out the obvious Brock.

"Anyway, I got a question for you. Uh, you haven't seen a girl with a Pikachu around here, have you?" Ash asks. Hmph. This must be some kind of Team Rocket machination. I think I remember now. Pikachu was with Dawn for some reason and got caught up in Team Rocket's attempt to steal Pikachu once again.

"No. You really think that Starly is good enough?"

A confused face is my response with a wide-eyed bird to accompany it. Heh. "I've watched you catch it. Isn't it more efficient to catch a better Pokémon right at the start rather than train it from the ground up?"

"You can tell which ones the strongest," He asks mockingly.

"Of course. Look." I throw my pokeball into the air. Out comes my Starly. "You must know that you can scan any Pokémon you catch to check out their moves and stats, right?"

"O-of course I know that." Ash stutters in confusion.

"Well, instead of catching random Pokémon in the hopes of a decent catch with good stats. I check out their moves while I battle them. Pokémon will use their best move to battle if they're smart after all. So instead of searching for the cream of the crop by luck, I can figure that out before I even catch them. My Starly knows aerial ace. You wanna know how I know that? Not only because my pokedex says so, but because I saw him use it. Your Starly on the other hand, only knows the most basic of basic moves. Pathetic."

"You know what I think? It doesn't matter if my Starly doesn't know aerial ace right off the bat. Any Pokémon can be strong if you train em'."

A chuckle escapes me. It won't be long now…

"What are you laughing at?"

"You'll find out soon enough. So, wanna battle?"

"Sure, let's do it!" In hindsight, it is very strange that he would accept this. Did the writers of the anime make him forget that he had a Pikachu to save? I guess I have to remind him of this.

"We'll use 3 Pokémon." Realization hits him. "Three on three is the perfect way to find out what type of Pokémon a trainer is good with. It also allows a trainer to test the balance of their team."

"I know, but I only have two."

"You gotta be kidding me? You only have two? Come back to battle me when you have a basic team. Come on, Elekid, we're out of here." I walk away with Elekid for a bit before I stop to watch them run over to the electricity that Pikachu produced. Oh, don't you worry. We'll have our battle in time Ash!

Transition

Meanwhile, a Pikachu and Piplup were engaged in a battle against Team Rocket who were manning a powerful six-armed, giant robot. Electricity had been useless against the robot as it was seemingly immune to electricity.

After some taunting from team rocket where they boasted their "Super Sinnoh Slinger Mark 1 A", the robot launched its assault on the Pikachu and Piplup. Dawn tried to defend against the robot by ordering Piplup to use bubble, but it was to no effect. Pikachu was captured by the robot and its thunderbolt did nothing to stop the arms from keeping it locked in its grip.

"Chree (three) points!"

"And Team Rocket wins it!"

"With the Pikachu pass-play!"

Thunderbolt from Pikachu and bubble from Piplup was absolutely ineffective against the multi-armed mechanical monstrosity. Ash and Brock joined in to help rescue Pikachu, but their attacks did nothing to free Pikachu from the grip of the robot.

"Pikachu!" yelled Ash. Ash ran towards the robot as it attempted to grab him, but Ash quickly jumped to a tree and then propelled himself onto the robot's arm. The other arms of the robot flailed and then mistakenly punctured itself. Ash tried to pry Pikachu from the fingers of the robot, but it was not helping.

"Ash! Hurry! I think it's going to blow!" warned Brock. They weren't going to make it.

"Star!" cried a glowing Starly in a white light. It flew towards the robot's finger and freed Pikachu! Pikachu and Ash ran away from the exploding robot, eager to not get blown up.

Starly flew away from the explosion towards a certain figure in the woods. "Good work Starly. Now let's see if he'll be ready to battle us now."

I walk from the forest with Elekid preparing for my first Pokémon battle since the event to change my life. This is important! I won't allow any mistakes to happen! This battle won't end in a defeat for me nor a tie! I will only accept absolute victory! I go up to a clearing to prepare my Pokémon for the battle they will.

"Chimchar, Starly come on out." A white light appears before my eyes as my Pokémon materialized to show the three of them. Time to give the pep talk.

"I'll be issuing a challenge against a trainer I met earlier. I expect you all to try your best! No slacking. Starly, your aerial ace will be indispensable in the coming battle. I expect you to perform well." Starly responds with a cheery "Star!" Perfect, now to deal with the problem Pokémon. "Chimchar!"

"C-char?"

"You're a Pokémon with a ton of potential. If you can learn to take hits well, dodge when necessary, and utilize that blaze ability of yours, you will truly become a force to be reckoned with. You understand?"

"Char!" Chimchar responds with a fire burning in his eyes.

"Elekid, I expect prime performance as usual."

Elekid nods in understanding. "Right, return all three of you." I say raising my pokeball to all three of them. Now to face my rival. I walk to a tree by Professor Rowan's lab and wait until they exit the lab.

The automatic doors open and out comes Ash, Dawn, Brock, and Professor Rowan. "Er, who are you?"

"The name's Paul. And from the looks of things, you're Professor Rowan. I'm waiting for him." I move my eyes to focus on Ash. He looks surprised by the looks of things. Hmph, of course he'd be surprised meeting someone who is so focused on training. The past people he's met simply don't compare to the icon of Paul. Gary was close but wasn't enough.

"For me?"

"You got three Pokémon now. Wanna battle?" I ask, smirking. He doesn't know what he's getting himself into.

"Sure, I'm ready. I'm going to be a Pokémon master and the way to do that is to beat challengers like you!" Ash says eagerly.

"Hm, then off to my back garden." Professor Rowan declares. It's finally time to test my skills!

And so, we gathered around Professor Rowan's back garden with Rowan and Dawn spectating, Brock as judge, and Ash and I on opposite ends of the field.

"This is great! I've never seen a real Pokémon battle before!" exclaimed Dawn. That's certainly surprising that it's her first time seeing one.

"Well you're seeing one now so hold on to your hat!"

I couldn't help myself "heh"

"What's so funny Paul?"

"Just that you seem really psyched up for a battle where you're going to lose."

"Oh yeah? Well, we're see who's losing by the end of this!"

"I guess we will. Remember, this is going to be a three on three battle with no substitutions. The first one to 2 wins will be the winner. Got it?"

"Yeah, I got it. Starly, I choose you!"

"Starly, stand by for battle!" Both Starly have a staredown. We're about to show why exactly I declared myself to be the one going to win. "Ash, you can go first."

"Right! Starly, use quick attack!" A bright white light followed his Starly's flight as it flew fast towards my Starly.

"Starly, fly over to the right!" Starly obeyed, but it was too late. It got hit a bit in its side. It'll be fine. I hear some musings about me testing Ash's Starly's power by Rowan. You're not exactly right this time Professor. "Starly use aerial ace quick!" Starly tucked his wings in and nose dived towards the opposing Starly. A direct hit!

"Wait a second. Was that Starly from earlier? The one that saved Pikachu?" questioned Dawn from the sidelines.

"Maybe I'll tell you if you beat me." I wager. It's not really a secret I care about.

"We'll just have to make sure we beat you then! Quick, Starly wing attack!"

Heh. My victory is in the bag.

"Starly, double team." Starly multiplied more and more, making the opponent lose which one is real. My Starly flew behind Ash's preparing itself for an aerial ace.

"The real one's in the back. Dodge it now!"

"Aerial ace!"

With no time to dodge, my Starly flew right into Ash's, knocking it out. I've won one using Paul's, or rather my, original strategy. Next up is Chimchar. Time to take things up a notch!

"Ash' Starly is unable to battle. Paul's Starly is the winner." Brock announces.

"You know, your strategy of just pushing with a lame strategy isn't going to do you any favors. Any Pokémon on your team isn't going to win if their trainer can't guide them well. That's all you got?" I taunted returning Starly.

"Aipom, you're up next!" Ash declared, keeping cool for now.

"Chimchar, stand by for battle!"

"A Chimchar?" Ash said, opening his pokedex. The pokedex gave its spill of Chimchar being the "Monkey Pokémon", as if there are monkeys in this world for humans to compare it to.

"Isn't that nice. You got your Chimchar lesson for the day."

"Grr, use swift Aipom!".

Can't dodge swift so we'll have to cancel it out! "Ember Chimchar!" As planned the swift and ember cancelled leaving both Pokémon unharmed.

"Focus punch, let's go!" Aipom readied its tail with a bright white light. I can't let it have a chance to use it.

"Chimchar, use flame wheel!" A direct hit landed, stopping the focus punch from charging. Perfect. Now to not make the same mistake.

As Rowan gives exposition about focus punch, I start my next move. "Chimchar, ember!"

"Dodge it Aipom!"

Hmph Can't dodge forever, eventually, you'll run out of space to go and then you'll be Chimchar's range. "Chimchar advance towards the Aipom with some more ember."

"Aipom, swift attack!" Swift and ember cancelled out, but the work behind it is done. It's time.

"Chimchar, flame wheel!"

"Aipom, focus punch." I won't allow his plan to work!

Right before Chimchar would hit Aipom what could be heard from both trainer's mouths was "Jump now!" Instead of Aipom jumping out of the way of a flame wheel and then striking, it gets hit directly.

"No Aipom…" Ash cried out.

"Aipom is unable to battle, the winner is Chimchar, making Paul the winner." Heh, as expected.

"Return Chimchar, you've shown your potential." I walk up to Rowan to communicate my thanks.

"So, you really did win Paul. I'll be sure to win next time! Also, thanks for saving Pikachu. Even if you haven't admitted to it yet. That aerial ace did seem familiar" Ash declared.

"Yeah whatever. Just make sure to hold on to that Pikachu of yours." I wave off Ash. Turning to Professor Rowan I say, "Thanks for the use of the field Professor. I appreciate it." I turn and walk off.

A satisfying victory, but it was only a victory because of knowledge of what's going to happen. I won't rely on that in the future. In fact, it'd be terrible if I did. Maybe you've figured it out already, but I have gained some new memories you could say. Memories of the future, my future and Ash'. I may have been rivals with Ash, but I plan to best him completely and utterly. There are bigger fish to fry after all. Monsters like Tobias with a Darkrai and a Latios. I'll rise to the occasion. I'll beat him, I'll beat the elite four, and then she is next. Cynthia, the champion of Sinnoh. This I swear: to become the very best of the best!
