Chapter 62: Ghost in the system

With the completion of the reconstruction, Rose took the opportunity to not only restore Shelley Technology but also revolutionize its office setup. A meticulous planner, she designed a high-security and privacy-oriented workspace that allowed her and Blake to be in close proximity throughout the workday.

The new office configuration featured state-of-the-art security measures, including biometric access points and reinforced surveillance systems. Rose ensured that the environment was conducive to productivity while prioritizing the safety and confidentiality of their work.

Strategically positioned workstations allowed Rose and Blake to collaborate seamlessly, fostering an atmosphere of creativity and efficiency. Soundproofed walls and advanced encryption measures ensured that sensitive discussions remained private, shielding their work from prying eyes.

Blake observed the changes unfolding around him, a silent acknowledgment that the dynamics were shifting. One noticeable alteration caught his attention—the replacement of Kendra, Rose's former personal assistant.

A new figure, a man, had taken Kendra's place, and Blake couldn't help but sense a lack of acknowledgment from the newcomer. His presence seemed indifferent, possibly viewing Blake as a rival among Rose's suitors.

Although curious, Blake didn't delve too deeply into the matter. In the realm of Rose's suitors, he knew he stood as a proud adversary.

Approaching Rose with a question about Kendra's departure, Blake discovered she had resigned and submitted her resignation letter.

"And you have nothing to do with this, I assume?" Blake inquired, scrutinizing her response.

"Me? Of course not!" Rose replied with a grin that sent shivers down Blake's spine. Often times when he saw a glimpse of her teeth, he was reminded just how powerful this woman was.

Blake furrowed his brows as he probed further. "Kendra seemed quite loyal. Her sudden departure raises questions."

Rose chuckled, a sound that held both amusement and a hint of mystery. "People come and go, Blake. Loyalty is a fleeting sentiment in our world."

His gaze intensified. "Is that so? Or is it just a part of your grand design?"

Rose's eyes sparkled with mischief. "You give me too much credit, Blake. If I orchestrated every move, life would be dreadfully predictable."

"Yet, Kendra's replacement seems to fall conveniently into your plans," Blake countered, his tone suggesting he wasn't easily swayed. Not that Kendra meant much to him but he needed to call Rose to order if he suspected any foul play.

She was his boss, rightfully so but then again, lives could be ruined if no one had her in check. And being who he was to her, he knew he could afford to throw his weight around a little without stepping out of bounds. It wouldn't be a relationship if neither could call each other's bullshit out.

The new assistant, still nearby but discreetly occupied, added an enigmatic smile to the unfolding drama.

Rose leaned in, her voice a silky whisper. "Blake, my world is all about complexities. Sometimes, threads are pulled, and patterns change. Trust the process,"

Blake, his gaze unwavering, stated firmly, "I just want to make sure you're not abusing your powers, Rose."

A sly smile curved Rose's lips as she replied, "Blake, darling, power is only as good as its application. Now, about our evening plans, have you considered that art exhibition I mentioned?"

"You did it!" she exclaimed with genuine excitement.

"Yeah, not like it's some big deal. Would have hacked into it weeks ago, but I needed to be a ghost when inside. You know how these legal trials work, right? We could go to jail even if we find out something incriminating. I had to make sure nothing could be traced back to us. You..." Josh started explaining, but Tessa's impatience halted his tangent.

"Save it, smarty pants. Just show me what all of... these! Mean!" Tessa demanded, pointing at the multitude of screens.

"This, my dear, is gold!" Josh declared dramatically.

"Gold?" Tessa raised an eyebrow at the theatricality.

"No, not actual gold. I'm talking about the worth. What you're staring at now is all the records, every transaction, and private deal sealed. Everything within Shelly Technologies is right here. It's a matter of your discretion at this point. Which one would you like to dive into first?" Josh asked, still reveling in his achievement.

"Everything is in here, you say?" Tessa inquired.

"Everything," Josh nodded.

"Project sunscreen. Pull up everything regarding Project Sunscreen," Tessa ordered with determined resolve.
