Chapter 24.2 - About Old Yang 1 Part 2

Old Yang also saw Han Shi Yu and his granddaughter not far away. With a smile on his face, he turned around and said hello to many more old friends in passing.

The stall with Chinese New Year goods in front of him was just a huge transparent film – half of it hung vertically between two trees, covered with spring couplets. The other half was laid out on the ground with clay sculptures, incense and plastic decorations painted in gold as well as various other things on display.

The stall owner was sitting in the middle, smoking a pipe.

Seeing Old Yang and Yang Mo, the stall owner exhaled a breath of smoke and said, “Oho, your precious son is back.”

Old Yang glanced at him, going over the new year goods before saying, “I’m not arguing with you today. I don’t want to get mad on Chinese New Year.”

The stall owner’s voice was like a broken blower. He cackled as he said, “Then don’t come up here and buy from me.” He pointed at a stall not far away with the pipe in his hand and said, “Go to other stalls.”

Old Yang said plainly, “It’s cheaper over here.”

Yang Mo glanced at Old Yang, then nodded towards the stall owner once and called him uncle.

That night, after reflecting deeply on his carelessness in choosing a spouse, Yang Mo still accepted Han Shi Yu’s ring – which he had specially ordered with both their names engraved on it.

Under the cover of the darkness, they kissed by the flower bed as the light from the fireworks shone on each other’s faces.

They did it once in Yang Mo’s room after they got home. It was already midnight when they were done. Yang Mo wasn’t sleepy and was instead extremely awake.

He quietly looked at the small, opened plastic wrapper on the bed and suddenly felt amused – he remembered back in college when Han Shi Yu first proposed to “further deepen the relationship” with him, he nervously ran around for an hour but couldn’t buy a suitable condom.

In the end, Yang Mo glanced at the different brands he brought back – there were even different flavours – and asked him suspiciously, “Are you this particular about these things?”

Han Virgin shook his head, “I’m afraid you’d be.”

Yang Mo: “…….”

After that time, Han Shi Yu got into the good habit of carrying condoms on him with he went on trips with Yang Mo.

Yang Mo was very awake but Han Shi Yu was really sleepy instead. He had his arms tightly wrapped around Yang Mo with his head resting on the back of his neck, breathing softly.

Yang Mo knew why he was so tired, so he held no pity at all and called, “Han Shi Yu.”

Han Shi Yu hummed, “Hmm…”

After six years of knowing each other, Yang Mo had gradually put down his pride. He said, “Let’s change it up a little from now on.”

Han Shi Yu blinked and sobered up, “Ah?”

Yang Mo faintly repeated himself again, “Let’s change it up from now on.”

He was referring to their bed activities.

Han Shi Yu stared straight at him without looking away for a second. The lights outside the window flickered in his eyes.

With no reason at all, Yang Mo felt guilty from that stare of his.

Han Shi Yu nuzzled against Yang Mo’s chest and like an unreasonable kid, he whined, “No.”

Yang Mo: “…….”

Yang Mo: “What?”

Han Shi Yu said in a wronged tone, “This won’t do…You’re older than me so you have to compromise. Mo, ge, Mo Mo, senior, my good ol’ gege…”

Yang Mo: “…….”

He could no longer stand looking directly at this young, talented youth, the sophisticated and mature president of Ji Xun praised by media sites and the internet. As he became famous, countless conspiracy theories and public opinion gradually started brewing behind the cameras. They slowly shaped him into a treacherous capitalist who could call upon the clouds and rains with just a wave of his hand….but.

He was actually all bundled up in the blanket and acting spoiled with him in a whiny tone.

Yang Mo somehow felt a tingle down his spine and his ears instantly reddened. Without a choice, he pushed Han Shi Yu’s head away and said, “—Get away from me!”

The day he found out about their relationship, Old Yang “ran away from home” for the night.

Early morning next day, he came home with the husky. He didn’t say a word to Yang Mo or Han Shi Yu. An old man and a dog keeping each other warm in the snow – the sight of that felt rich in emotions.

After the husky left, Old Yang decided he also wanted to raise a dog. It would be better if it was a smarter one – and that was how the border collie, Er Dan came to be.

This was a direct jab at Yang Mo: “It’s better to raise a dog than raise a son.”

Before Yang Mo left, he wanted to soften his attitude and apologize to Old Yang and ask him to be more open-minded about them but Old Yang did not give him the opportunity.

So Yang Mo still went back with this regret. But after telling Old Yang what he had hidden in his heart for so many years, Yang Mo still felt really relieved.

As for why Old Yang slowly accepted them, Yang Mo took it all as time mellowing him down.

…Until much later, when Yang Mo overheard that Old Yang fought with someone while shopping once.

Those old men and aunties couldn’t accept homosexuality. They thought it was too absurd and while discussing it, they dragged Yang Mo into it.

This incident was told by the stall owner who sold the Chinese New Year goods.

He said at that time, Old Yang raised his voice and the verbal fight became heated. He said with his neck red with anger, “Yang Mo started a business out there and every month he sent back tens of thousands of yuans back home. He returns to visit me every year too. You guys will never have a son like this even if you keep giving birth to more!”

The other party was still arguing at first but they suddenly became speechless.

Someone beside him muttered, “You only have this one son. No matter how good he is, your bloodline will still go extinct because he’s with a man.”

Old Yang roared, “Yang Mo has a business, led a team and won the world’s hacker tournament and brought honour to our country! The name of our Yang family has long been written on the trophy and encyclopaedia, bringing glory and honour to our ancestor’s name! I don’t have a problem with whoever he wants to live his life with. Did you guys raise or feed him now? This is none of your business!”

Old Yang stood alone in the crowd, the cuffs of his sleeves were filled with cold air as he straightened his backbone proudly.

In the end, the stall owner pulled him out of the crowd. Old Yang still wasn’t satisfied and yelled at the stall owner indiscriminately to relieve his anger.

At that time, Yang Mo listened as the stall owner laughed while retelling him the story. He himself was frozen in place for a long time.

Old Yang had never told him about this.

He looked at Old Yang. The old man bent down and placed the bought Chinese New Year goods in his arms. Old Yang took them and held on to them.

In that moment, Yang Mo could see the white hairs on Old Yang’s temple which had grown by a lot more. As if they were injected with life, slowly growing from the depths of his memories.

Yang Mo suddenly wanted to reach out and touch them.

Old Yang stood up and said, “Yang Mo.”

Yang Mo: “En.”

Old Yang: “How many years have you and Han Shi Yu been together.”

Yang Mo was 36 years old this year. He met him in college when they were at the most youthful age. At that time, Han Shi Yu was 18 and he was 19.

Yang Mo answered vaguely, “A really long time.”

“When you’ve reached my age, you guys should go live abroad.” Old Yang said with his hands behind his back, “The people here are still a little unable to understand.”

Yang Mo’s heart felt like it had been squeezed, remembering the words he once said to Old Yang out of anger.

“It’s pretty good within the country. We’ll continue to stay here. Yang Han…will too.” Yang Mo said, “We’ll come home each year from now on.”

Old Yang was stunned for a moment. He turned back and looked at this rebellious son of his for a long time.

Yang Mo thought he was going to say something so he remained silent until Old Yang sighed and walked towards the others.

Yang Mo looked at his back and wanted to follow after him. But the stall owner stopped him.

The stall owner smiled, “Pay up.”

Yang Mo: “….Oh.”

“Every time he tries to get himself out of the situation, he ends up bringing up all sorts of things.” The stall owner laughed, “See, he probably didn’t bring enough money.”

Yang Mo: “…….”

T/N: This is honestly one of my personal fav chapter! I love how Yang Mo’s dad defended them and subtly told them to go abroad so that they can live happily :”)

Also, taking a week’s break from updating due to Chinese New Year! (Coincidentally the recent chapters are aligned with CNY too haha)
