As fate cued the curtain call of the Ordeal, we were exposed to the sunlight of Carcosa once again.
Although I doubted that we could call it sunlight, since the luminescence mostly derived from the shining rings around what I perceive to be a literal black hole.
Should it be more proper to call it black light then?
"Never would have thought that I would be scavenging the remains of Calamity Objects, after diligently avoiding them in fear of any kind of anomalies," Verina said as she helped me carve what was left of the charred Vitruvian Drones.
"What do people do to the remains of the Calamity Object then?" I asked.
"We either cremate them, or bring them to the people who need them for a good chunk of bloodie coins."
"Burning them sounds like a lot of waste."
"Hmmhmm, considering the amount of incidents related to interacting with the dead remains of Calamity Objects, most adventurer and bastioneer alike prefer to stay clear from these remains."
"The lack of knowledge on which one to take and to not take, I assume. How about the people who need them?"
"Librarians who want to record them, specialists who dealt with Calamity Object to uncover their secret, which is surprisingly a much more dangerous job than a bastioneers, apparently." Verina watched closely as I delicately weaved my Emberfang knight to separate the parts highlighted by my Gloamkeeper's Beacon. "And also the Anthropriest."
Anthropriest…
They were one of the major existence within the info dumps I received, and I couldn't wait to encounter them in the future.
"Say, what are we planning with the Silent Fragments from the bells and that Charstone we retrieved earlier?" Verina asked with enthusiasm.
The Silent Bell left behind Silent Fragments when we destroyed it. According to the information screen, this material can be used to craft weapons or tools that generate no noise.
As for the Charstone, it was a blackened relic that can keep fires burning endlessly if lit with one. Though, it would eventually become bigger and uncontrollable if not properly managed.
"Our Soulthread Aegis garbs don't really need much improvement, since attaching any new material would demand a full reconstruction… But I can see that we can create a close range weapon with it. It is not final yet.
"As for the Charstone, I'm planning to see if we can use it as some sort of infinite source of fuel for something like a transportation vessel." I smirked. "We can't stay here if we want to hunt for Theotechs and bring Lupina back to her two feets."
"Lupina can wait," said the person who was carrying the cryopreserved head on her backpack. "My preservation spell is perfect. She can probably last a decade without fatal degeneration on her tissue."
"As expected of a kilnalan."
"Not all kilnalan is as wondrous as me, though."
As we transported the materials back to our bastion's storage with a logistic carriage, Verina was struck with an enlightenment mid journey.
"What about using the Silent Fragment for the Fortcracker?" Verina spouted out of nowhere. "That thing makes a lot of noise when you deploy it from its collapsed form."
"... I'll take that idea." And then a chain reaction of enlightenment began to spread to the nerves of thoughts. "We can also make a special reusable bolt ammunition."
"So, when do we start?"
"After both of us are fully rested, obviously."
I found out that both Verina and my Sanities returned greatly after we went through that 12 hours campaign session.
If my hypothesis wasn't wrong, then exercising what I deem enjoyable and time-worth was able to replenish my Sanity back after it was affected by the nightmarish horrors of the Ordeal.
And it should apply to everyone too. Thus, resting and recreation time might be a much more valuable thing to have in Carcosa as its inhabitants.
My Sanity was currently at 78% right now, and I hoped that I could regulate it back to 100% before the Ordeal of the Dusk arrived.
"So, what are you waiting for?" Verina emotionless cooed as she opened her arms on the bed, as if waiting for me to jump onto her. "Let's continue our yesterday's bonding."
"... I'll make another bed."
"Wait-!"
Verina's grabbed my hand, holding me from exiting the bedroom.
"At least talk with me a little bit."
"What are you? A desperate concubine?"
"I see that you're starting to see me as one… Wait, you already have someone in your heart?" seaʀᴄh thё nôvelFire.net website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.
Not necessarily.
I didn't have anyone as my love interest, even back then on Earth. I remembered being swarmed by my female peers who wanted to take advantage of my look for their own benefit, so I often steered clear of any bait for intersex relationship bonding.
Then again, I'm not exactly a man in this world, but the way Verina deem me as one reminded me of that time I had in college.
"If I were to have one, I would have already claimed them for myself, don't you think so?"
"Hmm, that's a good reason."
We ended up lying side to side on the bed for no reason.
This might be how females bond with one another in this world's setting, so I didn't really have any reason to refuse since it didn't demerit me in any way.
Not to mention, Verina has been my greatest asset since I arrived in this world. Putting our relationship into anything awkward would only sour our chances to survive.
"I realized that I never asked you this before, since I thought that Lupina had already done the deed first," Verina went silent for a moment. "What is a fairy's view about things like love and relationships?"
"I think you're asking the wrong fairy."
"Then what is your view about it?"
"Depending on the individuals, I see it as a factor that needs to be maintained and cared for if you want to have an enjoyable environment."
"What is your opinion of me?"
