Chapter 44: Decision

The others heard the man's question and questioned the firefighters.

"Yeah, my family hasn't eaten in three days. Can you bring us something to eat?"

"Why did you come empty-handed? Why didn't you bring something to eat for us?"

"We are all taxpayers. Shouldn't the government care about us? How would you feed yourself without our taxes? You can't just let us starve to death like this!"

The more questions they ask, the more chaotic and absurd the questions become. What started as gratitude turned into resentment. Most of them even clung to the firefighter and refused to let go until the firefighter gave them an explanation.

While Yao Ran was watching this scene from her balcony, someone knocked on her door. She opened the door and saw Long Yu.

He looked at her and asked, "Would you like to go down and check the situation?"

Yao Ran thought for a while and agreed, "All right."

The two informed Zhou Ruilin before leaving. As they walked down the stairs, many people saw them. However, no one dared to approach them, and they just stared at Yao Ran and Long Yu from a distance with hateful eyes.

Seeing Yao Ran and Long Yu coming over, the noisy people from Building 3 immediately shut up and moved aside. It's best to stay away from these two devils.

When the firefighters saw that people suddenly stopped making trouble, they looked up and saw Yao Ran and Long Yu coming over.

The captain breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Everyone, please calm down. The government has prepared a few rescue centers where everyone can go."

"What are your plans?" Yao Ran asked calmly.

After being trapped in the building for eighteen days, Zhou Ruilin had finished most of her food. Although there was still a bag of rice, there was no electricity or gas, and only a few pieces of alcohol blocks were left.

To save fuel, she even soaked the rice in a thermos for a long time, then poured hot water into it and let it simmer inside the thermos before drinking.

In addition, the humid weather also prevented her clothes from drying, causing her to develop gynecological problems and rashes. Zhou Ruilin could persist, but her son could not. However, she still needs to wait for her husband to come back, and her son is still ill. After thinking for a long time, Zhou Ruilin still decided to go to the rescue center and have a look. At least she needed to find a way to get food and medicine for her son.

After thinking about it, Zhou Ruilin asked, "The rescue center should provide food and hot water, right?"

Yao Ran nodded, "Yes. However, supplies are limited, and the number of survivors could not be determined. The amount of food given to you may not be much, but the government will provide you with at least the bare minimum to sustain life."

Zhou Ruilin clenched her hands and said, "I will go see if I can find my husband."

Now that she had decided, Yao Ran didn't persuade her and nodded, "All right. The rescue team will give priority to the elderly and children. You can go down to register first and then pack your things. One person can only bring one bag, so just bring the important things."

Zhou Ruilin listened carefully to Yao Ran's explanation and smiled, "Thank you, Miss Yao and Young Master Long. If not for the two of you, we, mother and son, would have died at the hands of those people last night. When I find my husband, we will definitely come back to thank the two of you."

At the end of the world, a goodbye may mean a lifetime of separation. Yao Ran did not respond to Zhou Ruilin's words but just reminded her, "Be careful on the road."

After saying that, she and Long Yu left. Seeing that she had opened the metal door, Long Yu stopped her and asked, "Are you going to the rescue center?"

Yao Ran shook her head and replied, "No. Our location is the highest area in Juncheng City, but

it is still flooded up to the second floor, let alone other low-lying places. Judging from the water level, the gymnasium and library should also be flooded."
