Chapter 2162.1: I Dug This Hole
An enormous blade of fire smashed into the massive hammer.
Pfft!
Standing at the front, Ouyang Baitian spat out a mouthful of blood as his weapon was likewise sent flying.
“How is this possible?!” Ashen-faced, the shocked Ouyang Baitian never dreamed that he wouldn’t be able to take even one of Lu Tianling’s moves.
“How is it not possible?!” Lu Tianling sneered and struck with Brightfire Slayer again.
Boom!
Another heat wave exploded through the air as Ouyang Baitian flew out like a kite on a broken string. He smashed viciously into the ground. Next to him, Yuwen Zonglin didn’t even have a chance to react before fire filled his field of view.
……
Lu Tianling was slightly pale and a tiny dribble of blood trickled out from the corner of his mouth, but his expression remained unchanged. He looked down at the two patriarchs that he’d smashed into the ground, then streaked back into the Lu complex in a ray of fiery sparks. He couldn't be bothered with saying more to them.
“Grandfather… really is a wily old fox. He was putting on a weak act before!” Lu Yun chuckled when he saw the old man disappear. He knew the effects of his pill. The Violet Orchid Ganoderma was a ninth rank spirit grass that was very rare in the world. However, a simple spirit grass was still worth less than the Nineturns Profound Life Pill.
All medicines were part poison and part cure. Spirit grasses contained other impurities in addition to their medicinal effects. Only when they were refined into pills could they be absorbed by cultivators.
What Lu Yun had created was a complete Violet Orchid Ganoderma that was pure medicine. It neared an immortal grass rank with no impurities and was more unadulterated than some pills.
As a latter nascent spirit cultivator, Lu Tianling easily absorbed the pill’s effects after one night of refinement.
……
Lu Yun could understand why his grandfather played the pig to eat the tiger and didn’t say anything to expose him. Instead, he called Lu Xuan to him and exited a back door while humming a small ditty.
He suddenly halted.
Humm!
The green Seal of the Multitude in his dantian burst with scintillating light. The entire seal began trembling as an inexplicable strength surged into it. The seal shuddered once more and released a vast amount of energy that surged into the “dao” character within his dantian.
That character was Lu Yun’s core origin and the heart of the Nine Chapters of Dao. The intangible character threw off radiance as the mysterious strength surged into it and solidified a tiny bit more.
Hongmeng qi circulated rapidly through Lu Yun’s body and he spontaneously broke through to mid stage first turn. His cultivation also rose to eighth level qi refinement.
All of this happened in a split second, leaving him stunned and dazed.
“What, what just happened?” he gasped.
Was this goodwill from the masses? He seemed to have… experienced such a cultivation method before. But the previous instance seemed to have something to do with a tree.
It has to do with that sealed experience again. Just what did I undergo before?
But where did this goodwill come from?
Another voice sounded at this time and interrupted his thoughts. “Young master, young master, milord wants you!” It was slightly shaky.
Lu Yun turned around to see grand steward He Wuheng running toward him. The man had shaken off his typical despondency and blazed with high spirits. His dantian and meridians were fully repaired. He would return to his previous cultivation level given enough time and break through to nascent soul.
Gratitude shown between his brows and sudden inspiration struck Lu Yun.
The will of the people… goodwill from the people… Is that what this is about?
His thoughts spun rapidly as something familiar seemed to dawn on the horizon. Raising an eyebrow, he smiled at the man. “First of all, congratulations to Uncle He for making a full recovery!”
“It’s all thanks to young master! If it wasn’t for young master’s favor, this old servant would be a cripple for the rest of my life!” He Wuheng answered in a shaking voice and took a deep breath. He knew everything that’d happened to Lu Yun during this time, how the young man had gained a powerful immortal for his master and traveled to the Celestial Realm Battlefront. He had greatly matured from the irredeemable thuggishness of before.
“Ah, yes, grandfather wants me? I’m not going yet.” Lu Yun blinked. “I have something more important to do. Come help me, Uncle He!”
“Huh?” He Wuheng paused.
“We’re gonna get rich!” Lu Yun grabbed the steward without further explanation and left through the back door.
There was nothing that He Wuheng could do about the young master not answering his grandfather’s summons. Although the grand steward was initial golden core, he was aways at a loss when facing the young man.
Lu Tianling was likely the only person in the entire clan who could exercise some control over Lu Yun, not to mention that He Wuheng owed a great debt of gratitude to the young man at present.
……
Being early morning, there were few people out on the streets. Additionally, three nascent soul powerhouses had just battled in mid air, so most of the cultivators in the city were cowering at home. They didn’t want to be affected by the backlash.
Thankfully, powerful formations were in place in the city. Their clash hadn’t resulted in tangible damage.
Even so, natural qi within several kilometers of the Lu residence was in complete disarray. It blocked the probing consciousnesses of others so no one knew what’d occurred.
Three talismans appeared in Lu Yun’s hands as they stood in a quiet alley. He slapped them onto himself, He Wuheng, and Lu Xuan. The three changed drastically with an accompanying mist of hazy radiance.
He Wuheng turned into a burly man, Lu Xuan was a middle-aged scholar, and Lu Yun looked like a different nobleman’s son.
“Transformation Talismans!” He Wuheng gasped. These were extraordinarily precious in the world of immortal cultivation as they fully transformed a cultivator’s presence and aura for six hours. Regular cultivators couldn’t see through their disguise—only cultivators who reached the soul separation stage and possessed thousands of strands of nascent spirit could see through such a talisman.
Soul separation cultivators were only found in fifth rank empires. In other words, Lu Yun’s talismans enabled him to do what he wished in third and fourth rank empires without running the risk of being exposed by anyone.
Hu Wuheng’s heart ached. Three Transformation Talismans were worth literal cities!
Lu Yun didn’t care in the least and rushed them along, “C’mon, let’s go let’s go. We’re gonna get rich!”
Get rich?! Do you know the three talismans that you just threw out are the riches?! He Wuheng howled inside.
Lu Yun took the lead and surreptitiously brought them to the street not too far from the Lu residence. Two massive potholes marked it and furious fire energy raged within them, burning down the houses closest to it.
As this was Lu territory, the cultivators that’d lived inside had hurriedly evacuated when the fight broke out. Two charcoal figures tried to climb out of the potholes. They looked at each other when their heads poked out and exchanged wry smiles.
“Hoi!!” rose a cruel, peevish voice. “I paved this road and I dug this hole. Leave behind your storage rings if you want to get out of it!”
Startled, their grips slackened and they rolled back down. They were Ouyang Baitian and Yuwen Zonglin that Lu Tianling had blasted down from the sky.
With the old general’s strength, he had no problem beating the two of them by himself. He didn’t even need his spirit weapon. So when Brightfire Slayer was deployed, the two were instantly defeated.
Although they were all latter nascent soul, he was the undisputed strongest of Dark City!
Lu Tianling was truly enraged this time. The two families had set aside dignity and propriety to use his grandson as an excuse for hostilities. He certainly wouldn’t show them any mercy. Thus, the two noble patriarchs were heavily injured and their nascent souls damaged as well.
The two had come with utmost confidence and full preparation, so they hadn’t brought any servants or followers. It was already unreasonable enough that they were attacking a grievously injured Lu Tianling. If they brought more men, it might alarm the imperial family and the emperor would involve himself.
Thus, it was the perfect set up for an opportunistic noble scion to take advantage of their injuries.
