Chapter 159 – Moratorium
“You’re a partner lawyer who invested capital into the firm. This honor, this position—don’t you want to keep them? Why are you acting like this? Why are you going so far as to protect him? Are you two going out or something?”
“As you mentioned, I have interest, curiosity, and indecent feelings for him. I don’t want to send him out because he lost his value.”
“To begin with, Attorney Do was an outsider!”
“If nobody protects him, he’ll be alone. I don’t want to make him lonely, with nobody at his side. I know better than anyone how crappy that feels.”
Mihee flinched and stopped talking. Mouth firmly shut, Sehun stared at her pursed, pink lips.
They both knew that Sehun and Yoonshin couldn’t be compared. They also knew that Yoonshin was not a child. However, their default reaction to shock and bitterness would differ vastly. If he experienced something similar, Sehun would easily defeat it and find a different way of life. However, Yoonshin would be unable to do so. That was why Sehun felt for Yoonshin.
The fact that Director Do reached out to Sehun meant that her situation wasn’t looking great. Despite being a pillar in Yoonshin’s life so far, she would no longer have the resources to look after her brother in her upcoming battle. Yoonshin was already anxious because of that and was trying to lean against Sehun for support. Sehun was aware of this.
Yoonshin would drop to the middle of a battlefield like a kite without strings, and Sehun didn’t want to watch Yoonshin endure his brother-in-law’s onslaught. Sehun couldn’t put to words how terrible he felt just imagining that.
“Stop being so calculative and have some compassion for our teacher’s children.”
“Yeah, you might as well try to hide the elephant in the room. I had no idea that I would hear this from Sehun Kang. Can I laugh at you?”
“Didn’t you laugh already? Laugh more if you’d like.”
After saying everything that he wanted to, Sehun stood up. Mihee’s eyes followed him up from the bottom of his lean and slim body to his face, looking defeated. Sehun gestured his chin at her, challenging her to say what she wanted. She took the offer.
“Things to protect become one’s weakness, and that weakness will surely come back to eat away at one,” she quoted a phrase that Sehun frequently said. Sehun merely looked down at her. Mihee ignored his firm glance and continued, “So, one must work hard for the money but not be controlled by materialism. If one enters a relationship, one shouldn’t wear one’s heart on one’s sleeve. One must be in full possession of one’s heart. If it were to get stolen, that would be the start of one’s decline. These are all things that you’ve said. Did you forget?”
Sehun looked bored, unwilling to hear anymore. He retorted coldly, “Don’t you know that I have the highest IQ in this firm? I remember saying them. Then, let me ask you something. Did you forget the deal that you made with me when you accepted Yoonshin? Are you going to make me use that condition against you for such a trivial dispute? Are you?”
Upon being asked what he wanted, he had said, “Freedom to do what I want with all my matters within the firm without interference.”
Mihee recalled that conversation and flinched. However, she knew that if she were to lose to Sehun from the start like this, she would continue to lose to him until the end, so she said firmly, “Sehun Kang. You know how much that could cost. Are you going to use that condition to protect an associate?”
