Chapter 79: Numbers Don't Always Matter.
“JIMBEIIIIII!!!”
Hordy stood at the helm of a powerful army, numbering 100,000 fighters. his malevolent intent clear for all to see, especially when he caught sight of Jimbei peacefully seated beside Aokiji.
To him, this seemed like a betrayal of their own kind, an unforgivable act.
The tension in the air was palpable as the fighters formed a tight, intimidating circle around the two, creating an almost impenetrable barrier of bodies.
In the center of this formation, Hordy took a step forward, his predatory gaze fixed on Jimbei. He spoke with a bitter tone, “Seems like you’ve been cozying up to those World Government lapdogs, enjoying the company of humans.”
His menacing stare then shifted to Aokiji, who remained undisturbed on the ground.
With a thundering voice, he proclaimed, “You scum!
Today, you’ll pay for the crimes of your people!
Centuries of suffering at the hands of your kind!
Years of cruelty and persecution against the Fish-Men!
But...
Rest assured! We won’t end your lives swiftly. We’ll make you suffer and have our fun before the end. You’ll beg for death! Jahahaha...!”
The place resounded with the cheers of the fighters, showing their unwavering support for their leader’s words.
Contrary to the chaos around, Aokiji lay there, the epitome of indifference.
He lounged on the ground, disinterested in the unfolding spectacle, occasionally letting out a bored yawn before surrendering to slumber.
The only response to the commotion was the gentle rhythm of his snoring.
“You damn Marines! How dare you underestimate me?” Hordy’s pupils narrowed, his right hand shot forth with a menacing threat, “I’ll shatter your arrogance! Fish-Man Karate – Soshark.“
In that moment, an unforeseen surge from the side violently swept Hordy off his feet, sending him crashing to the ground.
“Karakusa-gawara Seiken.”
Jimbei swiftly moved to defend against Hordy’s actions, hoping to prevent a disastrous mistake and offer a stern warning.
The attack, while not overly powerful, managed to knock Hordy and his comrades off balance.
The assault resembled a strong wave, and if Jimbei had used his full strength, it could have been deadly for those nearby. Yet, Jimbei’s loyalty to his comrades held him back.
“Have you lost your mind, Hordy?”
Jimbei maintained his combat stance, his voice carrying a tone of anger. “Do you understand who you’re attacking?
He’s a Marine Admiral!
Can you fathom the implications of your actions?
Your recklessness not only endangers your life but also imperils Fish-Man Island.
Do you hold your comrades’ lives so lightly?”
Struggling to rise, Hordy clutched his injured abdomen, spitting blood and struggling for breath.
“This is... so exciting!” He lowered his head, his features obscured by the veil of his long, unkempt hair, hiding his true emotions. “No surprise he’s labeled as the top lapdog with the title ‘Shichibukai’ by the World Government.
After years of subservience, he can’t even distinguish his own kin from the humans deemed inferior.
It’s disgraceful, truly a pitiful sight, Jimbei!”
Jimbei’s voice thundered with conviction, “Fish-men and humans stand as equals! We fight to live together, not to hurt others!”
“Like it means nothing?!”
Hordy grunted through the pain of his injury. Spreading his arms defiantly, he declared, “We were born for this!
Raising his hand, the area began to shake. Whirlwinds emerged, and the river’s water started to flow erratically.
The mermen exchanged concerned glances, anticipating Hordy’s next move.
“You’re a ‘User,’ right?” Hordy taunted.
“A what?” Aokiji looked puzzled.
“Those devil fruit abilities!” Hordy said with a dark laugh and shouted. “This is our territory, and sea water weakens devil fruit users. I’ll drown you along with this forest!
Jaaaahahaha”
These words foretold the impending doom awaiting Aokiji.
Descending to such depths would be enough to overpower all Yonko and Devil Fruit users combined.
These were the final words Aokiji heard...
Or rather...
The last words spoken by Hordy.
-Ice Age-
At that moment, Aokiji’s hand brushed the water’s surface, unleashing a wave of chilling frost that swiftly encased everyone in a frigid embrace, turning them into statues of ice.
The surroundings transformed into a display of intricate frozen ice formations.
He let out a tired yawn, rubbing his eyes with indifference. “Numbers don’t mean a thing,” he remarked. “Strength isn’t determined by the quantity of people.”
He nonchalantly extended his hand toward Jimbei. “It’s time. I should head back.” Then, a sudden recollection struck him. “Oh, I almost forgot the reason for my visit.”
Before he could finish, Jimbei quickly understood, retrieved the pardon from his pocket, and tossed it to Aokiji.
He caught it and turned toward the Fish bus, giving a casual wave as he strolled past the frozen Fish-Men sculptures toward a distant bus stop. “Don’t worry, they’re still alive. Tomorrow will be fine. I didn’t use all my power.”
Upon hearing Aokiji’s words, Jimbei bowed gratefully. “Thank you, Aokiji-san. I’ll always remember this.”
“Erarara... No need. My submarine jail is already reserved! Their fate is now in your hands, Jimbei.”
Tears glistened in Jimbei’s eyes. “Thank you, sincerely!”
Aokiji walked into the distance, gradually blending in with the frozen statues. “They mentioned something dangerous, though... I trust you can handle it. If I happen to encounter them again, I won’t be as lenient!”
