Chapter 25: The Colossal Demon [Pt 2]

<Day 6 of the Tutorial>

[12:52 AM, Friday 5th of May, 2023]

The moon hung low in the night sky, casting an eerie glow over the quiet city.

The streets were empty, except for the lumbering Demons that roamed about, and a strange silence filled the air.

In one street, there was a small drugstore. Its windows were dark and still, as though waiting for dawn to awaken it.

Inside, the drugstore was empty, the last traces of its daily activities abandoned until morning. Rows of empty hangers swayed gently in the still air, and shelves stood bare.

The entrance was securely sealed with iron sheets, giving the illusion of safety against the outside world.

Suddenly, a deep rumble broke the silence.

The ground trembled as a monstrous creature approached, its heavy footsteps causing the very foundations of the building to quake.

Shadows danced outside the drugstore, cast by the beast's enormous form as it drew nearer.

"ROOOOOOOOOAAAAARRRRRRR!!!" n)-0velb1n

With a tremendous roar, the creature slammed into the iron sheets covering the entrance, its raw power unleashed upon the unsuspecting barrier.

BAM!

The metal groaned and protested but it couldn't hold against the relentless assault.

~WHAM!~

Piece by piece, the iron sheets began to buckle and bend, giving in to the monster's immense strength.

~BOOOOOOMMMMM!!!~

As the last remnants of the barrier gave way, the creature burst inside, a terrifying presence.

It stood tall, towering over the drugstore, its massive frame casting a dark shadow inside.

"GRRRRRRRR..."

A chilling growl escaped its monstrous maw, reverberating throughout the walls.

The creature moved with purpose, its instincts guiding its every step.

Empty hangers swung violently, protesting the intrusion with metallic clangs.

Shelves, stripped of their goods, shuddered and collapsed under the monster's fury like dominoes.

The creature prowled the aisles, its eyes scanning the wreckage, searching for something only it seemed to understand.

Its massive claws tore through shelves, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

Amidst the chaos, the creature's growls filled the air, a haunting symphony of desolation.

The air became heavy with the stench of the creature's despairing presence... but also with something else.

The Colossal Demon sniffed the air in an attempt to recognize the smell that overpowered its senses, but its primitive brain could not comprehend it.

Whatever it was, though, pervaded every single object in the room.

"GRRRRRR...??"

The creature felt the wetness on the ground, overpowered by the strange smell the liquids emitted. It couldn't fathom what it was.

Just what could it be?

~SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII~

Unfortunately, the beast would never find out.

~BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM!!!~

The entire drugstore burst into flames, shattering the stillness of the night with thunderous shockwaves.

Sparks of fire scattered through the streets, sending nearby Demons into a panicked frenzy.

Columns of smoke and flames billowed into the night sky, contaminating the cool, crisp air.

As for the fate of the giant monster that had ventured inside...

"..."

... It never came out.

"I-I did it?!"

My eyes widened with a mix of relief and surprise as I observed the explosion at my former base from a safe distance.

I was currently in a boutique at the opposite end of the pharmacy, and I had used the trail of gasoline I'd set up earlier to create a line of flames leading to the pharmacy, which was filled with all the gasoline I could find, along with the surrounding areas.

'There are some flammable products, like certain sprays, so I used those as well.'

The plan took a long time to execute, and I almost ran out of time before everything was in place.

Fortunately, I managed to pull it off somehow.

What worried me the most was the intensity of the blast and whether it would be enough to finish off the Colossal Demon or not.

'Looks like my worries were misplaced.'

There was no way I could have stood a chance against something like that, so I had to resort to this indirect approach to eliminate it.

However, there was one major issue with this method.

'Since it's an indirect kill, will I be rewarded for it? Or...?'

~DING!~

'Looks like I will be rewarded after all,' I smiled in relief upon hearing the triumphant chime of the System.

<You Have Leveled Up>

<You Have Leveled Up>

<You Have Leveled Up>

"H-huh? Four at once? That's insane!" I quickly lowered my voice to avoid attracting any nearby Demons.

'This place isn't as secure as the drugstore, but I'll have to make do for now.'

I couldn't stop thinking about the four Level Ups I had just received, though.

'Was the monster that strong?' A bead of sweat formed on my face as I watched the pharmacy engulfed in flames.

It was a good thing I had prepared myself beforehand.

"With this, I'm currently at Level 8... It's an impressive accomplishment, especially because it puts me in a better position than I recall from my dream."

'I was at Level 6 when the Colossal Demon first attacked.'

My <Dream> Skill not only allowed me to rectify past mistakes but also provided me with the chance to create even more opportunities.

[Additional Information]

You can see the future and past by living it. It is a coveted power worthy of desire, but a scary one to possess.

"Hmm..."

With my current Level, I should consider myself around average, maybe? Since this is already the sixth day, this should be normal.

'My initial goal was to reach Level 10 at least before the Tutorial ends, but now... maybe I can set my sights even higher.'

It was at this point that I made up my mind to exceed my limits.

"Alright! Let's aim for Level 15 before the Tutorial ends."
