Chapter 16: Weirdness
"Today, we should focus on finding traces of the enemy's camps instead of just hunting them like usual," Terry declared once they left the apartment. "It doesn't seem like the other guilds found any clues, but we still need to hurry up. There are many things to do, and getting to the dungeon is just the first step."
"Fine by me," Rebecca said. "You are doing most of the work, so our progress will rely solely on you."
Terry also wanted to make the wands reach level five, but that was just a secondary target... still, making them reach as soon as possible might give them more hunting speed.
To help with that, Terry decided to use the spear more often since he also wanted to check the next skill it would obtain. By using Throw, that shouldn't be a problem.
Terry's guess was right. That helped. Around noon, they had walked for around ten kilometers, which was more than seventy percent of the distance they had covered in the previous day. The wands also reached level five, and now they could grant the user 20 charges of Fire Arrow and Ice arrows. However, something else also happened.
Long Spear - Lv Max (00/00 EXP) (Common)
Attack Power: 42
Defense: 21
Durability: 32/42
(Critical: increases the chances of causing critical damage when hitting the enemy.)
(Spear Mastery: increases your attack power by ten percent.)
While Terry was thinking about that, he and Rebecca worked and hunted through the whole day and walked for around twenty kilometers, and they didn't find any camp once again. No signs of the end of the forest either.
"Yep, this dungeon is way different than the others," Terry said. "We will have to run toward the portal in order to leave before sunset."
"I am fine; I feel strangely powerful with those knives. Running for one or two won't be a problem," Rebecca said. "Putting that aside, maybe we should investigate things as well at night."
"I suppose... but would the giants or their territory change in any way?" Terry asked. "I am sure that the others have thought of this as well."
"I doubt that we can confirm or not this by asking the other guilds, so we can only rely on each other," Rebecca said.
When they left the dungeon, they obtained 40k, and Terry could already tell that some people nearby were paying attention to them. It was no surprise, they made a lot of money, and they were unscathed despite their numbers. The attention wasn't bad since it would be used to spread the name of the guild....but he needed to get some results to really attract possible members.
While he was resting in his room, he had an idea, and he put it into practice the next day when they entered the dungeon. Before anything, he climbed the highest tree that he could find and then looked around. However, he only saw an immense jungle around... no signs of mountains or anything that the giants could use as a hideout.
"Since there is nothing above..." Terry thought. "It is time to look below."
"Do you think those big creatures would live underground?" Rebecca asked.
"Did you notice anything weird with their skin?" Terry asked.
"... They don't have much of a tan considering the weather in this forest; I assumed that it was because of the trees protecting them from the sunlight," Rebecca replied after thinking for a short while.
"We focused on letting them find us. Now let's focus on finding them," Terry declared. "Keep your eyes open and follow any trail that we find... it should be faster if we follow the first group."
