That night, Rin Woo awoke to a sudden sound. There was a slight creaking that echoed around the room and made her uncomfortable. Rin sat up in bed and rubbed her eyes. Kim and Lily were lying on either side of her and she made sure she didn’t disturb them while getting up.
What was that sound? It was like there was someone quietly stalking through the place. Rin Woo had this thought in her mind as she moved to grab a drink of water. She didn’t care about who was sneaking around at night. Maybe it was just someone trying not to wake others?
But all of her thoughts immediately stopped when she turned around a corner and saw someone’s legs disappear around the other corner. It looked like the person was being dragged on the floor by the arms! What the hell!?
She moved forward slowly and looked around the corner to see a door being shut. Someone dragged a body inside!! Rin tried to steady her breathing and took a step back. She didn’t know much about this place, but she remembered Han telling her that she shouldn’t try fighting anyone in this world. Most of them were stronger than her.
She would double back and find Han. He would know what to do!
But once Rin turned around she shrieked in fright as she saw a man standing behind her! It was Tully, the owner of the inn, and he had this lifeless look in his eyes. Rin looked down and she saw a pitch-black sword sticking out from his stomach! Did someone just kill him!?
Tully fell forward and thumped on the ground and Rin finally got a good look at what killed him. It was an armored man of some sort. It was made entirely of shadows and stood at an impressive seven feet! Rin took a step back cautiously as she saw its black empty eyes hone in on her.
Was this some kind of monster? Is this the thing Han said she had to avoid in this place!? No! She couldn’t just die like this!
But Rin’s shock was not small when the shadow suddenly fell to one knee and bowed his head to her. Rin blinked and then tilted her head to one side in confusion. What was going on with this monster?
“Ah, Rin. You’re awake? I didn’t think you would hear the noise, but your senses must be sharper than before.”
Han’s voice shook Rin out of her stupor as he walked out from the darkness behind the shadow monster. Rin sighed happily as she finally saw a familiar face! She didn’t know what she would have done if she had to fight this shadow thing! It looked scary enough with that bloody sword, she would have been too terrified to even fight at all!

Han saw the skills and he couldn’t help but be shocked by how useless they were. Sure, the palm strike and silent Steps were useful, but they were the only combat-worthy skills in this guy’s system. Don’t tell me that this guy isn’t a combatant. Didn’t he come here to climb the Temple as well?
But that wasn’t true at all, was it? Han searched through Tully a little more and he rose a brow as he found a weird-looking badge with a skull engraved in it inside Tully’s shirt. This could probably be something to look into later.
Han stood up and dusted his hands. He didn’t look shocked at all because Han already saw many people here that didn’t look like they were interested in climbing the Temple. Both the chosen and those who were brought along with the chosen. They were more than happy to just live their lives on the first floor for some reason. Han hasn’t been any higher up on these floors, but if these people were comfortable to just live normal lives here, then the higher floors must be brutal.
Han waved Rin Woo forward while walking towards the door where the body was dragged into earlier. He snapped his finger and the lock froze solid before he then pushed the door open and entered with Rin.
The sight that Rin Woo saw there would haunt her for the rest of her life. It was a massacre house. There were people hanging by ropes from the ceilings like pigs and blood matted the room on every corner. Rin’s breath began to waver and she felt like puking. Han reached out and tapped her on the back twice before he turned back to the room.
Right in the middle of the room was a table where a man was tied up. He was already dead, evident from the long slit across his throat, and two people beside him were looking at Han with shock written on their faces. One of them was a woman that Han hadn’t seen before. But she had feline features as well, so Han just guessed that she was Tully’s wife. And the other person was Millie.
“Y-You... You shouldn’t be here! How are you here! Get out! Get out right now! My husband will surely come and get rid of you! Honey! Honey!?”
The woman began to shout loudly while Millie began to move back from the entire scene while trying to hide as much as possible. Han clicked his tongue, was this the sick mother Millie spoke about? This woman was obviously fine. The only sickness she had was a mental one!
He looked to Millie and she quickly tried to hide her hands. No matter what you do, I can still see the blood on your knife. That smile you held while you were cutting this man’s throat, where is it now?
Han already figured out the entire secret of this inn from the first moment he stepped foot in here and he couldn’t believe that he would be this disgusted by the sight of it. The business these people ran here wasn’t the normal one where they gave newcomers boarding, in fact, Han didn’t think this was even an inn at all. Nobody had come in here to ask for a room since he and the girls arrived, and if that wasn’t fishy he didn’t know what was.. The true purpose of this place was to capture newcomers and kill them.
