Since joining the Anti-Magic Bureau, Su Ling’s standard of living has significantly improved. This was evident in her recent relocation from her previous residence to a more upscale and modern apartment situated in the desirable area of Beland. Her move was a result of thorough planning and careful consideration of cost-effective options.
The newly rented apartment was located at the intersection of the Magic Bureau and the school, for her day to day convenience. Notably, the bus stop was located within a mere 20-minute walk, while a subway station stood a bit further away.
Naturally, the prime location of her new apartment comes with a corresponding price tag, Su Ling benefits from an 80% reimbursement on her rent from the Anti-Magic Bureau. Thus, despite the relatively high rental cost, she can comfortably afford the remaining portion without straining her finances.
Su Ling sometimes even thought that if the mortality and madness rate were not so high, being an investigator in the Anti-Magic Bureau would really be the best choice for young people today...
Inside the house.
Su Ling picked up a black hooded windbreaker from the sofa, put it on over her white sweater, put on black jeans, and finally a pair of black boots that almost touched her knees.
Today, she was planning to go to the café.
These days she had gathered intelligence about the Lightless Dust and intended to report it to Mr. Shen.
Information about the Salian family.
In fact, the information all came from the director, he seemed to know the Salian family very well, and their current patriarch, Henry, was indeed a member of the Lightless Dust.
He was very experienced in combat, having fought in many wars, having experienced tons of massacres, and possessing a very powerful and bizarre invisible art.
“The members of the Dust of Lightlessness, they all use some screenplay topic as their code name, such as ‘action drama’, ‘comedy’, and Henry’s code name is ......”
Su Ling picked up a can of sandwich seaweed on the table. The silver lid was easily unscrewed by her experienced hand, as delicate fingers picked a piece of dark green seaweed. With a quick motion, she placed it in her mouth, savoring the flavor as she chewed thoughtfully.
“Hmm.”
However, her brief moment of indulgence was interrupted by a skim of the weighing scale positioned nearby on the table. The silence that followed was palpable, broken only by the soft click of the lid being carefully screwed back into place.
With a swift, almost nonchalant movement, she discreetly nudged the scale out of sight under the bed with a swift kick of her black boot, a subtle gesture of defiance against its judgmental presence.
The quiet room bore witness to her whispered assurance: “Anyway, even if I get fat, the meat will grow where it should.” The words, murmured to herself, held a deeper meaning, hinting at a profound self-assurance that transcended mundane concerns.
Going to the cafe and eating too many snacks these past few months ...... Even with the Transcendent Physique, she still gained a few pounds of weight.
“Knock, Knock, knock.”
Who is knocking at this hour?
Bit skeptical she placed down the jar of sandwich seaweed, and looked over towards the door.
Since she was already dressed in, she directly walked to the door and reached out to open it and saw an acquaintance.
A middle-aged man in a suit and red tie with a high hairline and a medium build — Mr. Albert her previous landlord.
She was a little stunned, and wondered, what is he doing here?
“Mr. Albert, what brings you here?”
Standing behind the door, thinking that there was something wrong with the room she had rented.
Albert shook his head with a embarrassing smile, “Su Ling, I haven’t eaten for a while, now I’m feeling a little hungry.”
“I’m sorry, Su Ling, but I just can’t help it.”
Albert paused for a moment and nodded to Su Ling with a smile on his face.
Su Ling remained expressionless on the surface, but was “ dumbstruck” in her heart, but she could only nod her head gently and didn’t say anything more.
Albert suddenly covered his stomach again and frowned tightly.
“I still feel so hungry.”
He started to grumble and then he directly stood up and searched around the house. Soon he saw the jar of seaweed sandwich and immediately rushed over to take it and unscrewed the lid.
Su Ling was slightly stunned, and before she could react, all the seaweed was poured into Mr. Albert’s mouth.
My seaweed ...... Wait a minute, something’s not right.
Before she could process what was going on she was shocked to see that Albert stuck his tongue inside the jar and licked it very hard.
“So hungry, so hungry, I’m so hungry ......”
As impatience overtook him, he frustratingly stuck his tongue out, his glazed eyes betraying his determination as he gripped the iron jar tightly. With a sudden burst of frenzied energy, he resorted to using his teeth to open the seemingly impenetrable container, the metal yielding to his unexpected force as it crumpled like a fragile sheet of paper in his mouth.
His transformation seemed almost supernatural as his teeth morphed into razor-sharp tools akin to a shark’s, enabling him to tear through the jar effortlessly. In a wild display of primal instinct, he voraciously chew on the tin can fragments, each morsel disappearing into his relentless jaws, in the precess biting his tongue and lips causing crimson rivers of blood to flow down his chin and stain his now churning mouth.
Su Ling without a word swiftly made her way to the bedroom to get a cell phone and a knife, opening the door she found that the black knife on her bedside was still there, but her cell phone was missing... and she couldn’t notify the Anti-Magic Bureau immediately.
“It’s not a normal phenomenon, there’s obviously a transcendent factor.”
She quickly thought about what was going on and felt that it was most likely a trick used by the Salian family to deal with her.
“Mr. Albert is probably just a pawn. Who is behind this? The Anti-Magic Bureau can’t be relied upon for the time being.”
She calmly held the black knife at her side.
“I’m so hungry! Su Ling!”
Suddenly, a shrill roar came from behind, like that of a wild beast, hysterical and full of inhuman distortion.
As she turned around, she inhaled a sharp breath, and felt a chill rising up her spine.
Mr. Albert’s stomach was greatly swollen and bulging as if he was pregnant, and the color of his skin all over his body had become crimson, like the color of a red-hot branding iron.
He was squatting on the sofa, stretching out his two hands, stuffing all ten fingers into his bleeding mouth, squinting his eyes and nibbling them nastily.
When Su Ling turned her head to make contact with his line of sight, Mr. Albert suddenly stopped gnawing on his fingers.
Staring straight at her, his face twisted into a strange smile, with saliva mixed with blood dripping from his mouth.
“So hungry ......”
“Let me ...... Taste it.”
