Chapter 27 What…Is Happening?

The skies gradually darkened as people in Yonka City scurried off into their homes.

The army stationed in Yalore Sea dropped all plans and began to sound their retreat, returning to Yonka City.

After all, a cyclone was gradually forming along the shores, and judging by the intensity of the cyclone that was forming this time, even Yonka City, situated 270 kilometres inland would be affected.

The cyclone had a dense concentration of corruption in it. And remaining in the Yalore Sea at this junction was disastrous, as the Aberrants would be strengthened while Nacre would be suppressed greatly.

Even though it was a pity that they had to let go of so many resources that they had poured into the Yalore Sea, there was no other choice.

They couldn't go against nature.

"Set up the Artillery Canons!" A Stage 7 Mystic Human shouted as every Mystic Human with the External Item of Artillery Canon set it up at the rooftops of the various skyscrapers, establishing pipelines of soil that connected to the ground.

This way, the roots streaming out of the Artillery Canons could travel through the mud pipelines and burrow into the ground that was situated far from the skyscraper rooftops.

The Artillery Canons were all aimed at the sky, focusing on the approaching clouds that were gradually darkening.

At the borders of the city, the Mystic Humans set up the External Item of Castle Wall, creating a twenty-metre-tall rampart around the city, preventing it from being affected by floods.

Even though it was inland, they couldn't take chances. After all, the phenomenon was somewhat amplified by the corruption.

The dome of the safety zone would prevent any rain from passing through, ensuring the city wouldn't be flooded.

The army from the Yalore Sea arrived at this time, entering the city. Among them was Dwun, accompanied by a massive army of Grassmen that filled up the streets.

The Horned Humans below Stage 5 took shelter while the remaining held large shields, standing on the rooftop of the various buildings throughout the city as they gazed at the approaching clouds.

Rhizen stared at everything, gazing at the Geological Society Director to ask, "What's the status of the typhoon?"

"It's still developing." The Geological Society Director said, "The satellite imagery shows an overwhelming accumulation of winds in it. The corruption concentration is still pretty tame, but something feels odd…"

"Ba-Boom!

Right as he was talking, a thunderclap resounded from the skies, terrifyingly loud, akin to the skies shattering, causing everyone to flinch instinctively as lightning sparks flickered across the clouds as soon after, a bolt of lightning slammed into the Yonka City barrier, causing it to crack in response.

Thunderclouds!

Fierce winds, intense rain, and lightning strikes were the factors dominant in a typhoon. And as typhoons naturally formed in the region, the Aberrants took advantage of it by using the Cloud Keras, obtaining control over it.

With that, they were able to use the entirety of the cyclone's power to target the human cities.

Using the forces of nature to attack the human settlements. This was the principal motto behind the Heaven's Will Scheme.

The first among them was the cyclone.

Thunder rumbled as gradually, the thunderclouds continued to develop as more and more of them flew inland. It was a natural course for them anyway. The only difference as compared to before was the fact that all their natural processes were now concentrated on the cities, intending to raze them to the ground.

Boom!

The second bolt of lightning slammed into the same spot as before, cracking the healed barrier once again. Every bolt of lightning was composed of a dense amount of corruption, enough to kill those at Stage 7 and below in a single hit.

Only those at Stage 8 and above were able to survive these high-intensity attacks. And in Yonka City, there were only three such individuals: Rhizen, Dwun, and Shika.

So, it was pretty hard for them to go on the offensive, especially since their air force was hardly developed.

Conventional aircraft wouldn't be enough to withstand the concentrated lightning bolts. And they had yet to develop items in this field, so they were pretty helpless in this regard, their only choice being to go out using their own powers.

Roadways, waterways, and airways, none of them was developed to a satisfactory level yet. They had to do so using their power system to ensure their enemies wouldn't be able to counter them easily.

And such things took time, effort, manpower, and resources.

Guoong!

An Artillery Canon condensed a dense quantity of Nacre before shooting out an arrow at the sky, causing it to slam into the cloud, vaporising part of the corruption there.

Upon seeing that it was effective, all the other Artillery Canons too began to shoot Nacre arrows, targeting the locations where lightning bolts seemed to be forming. This way, the corruption in them would be weakened.

Normal lightning bolts wouldn't even scratch the safety zone barrier, not to mention breach it. Without the dense stream of corruption in it, they weren't strong enough.

Hundreds of Nacre arrows were launched into the air, with each containing enough power to destroy a Titan Aberrant.

Also taking action to support was Rhizen, unleashing hundreds of feathers into the air, causing them to make a beeline towards the clouds. Both the entities crashed into one another, resulting in a terrifying cluster of energy storms that affected the generated lightning discharge, causing them to be sent in other directions.

Pitter-Patter!

Rain began to fall, quickly becoming a downpour as the air became heavy with corruption. Immediately, all the feathers turned sluggish before they vanished one after another.

With the arrival of the rain, all their attacks on the sea of clouds became ineffective. After all, they lost all power before even reaching the clouds.

It immediately placed Yonka City in a passive situation, unable to counterattack, defending helplessly being their only option.

And it wasn't the terrifying lightning bolts that did this, but just the heavy downpour. That wasn't all, fierce winds began to blow through the region, carrying corruption from the ocean with them, slamming into the barrier, applying pressure.

The pressure originated from the corruption in the air as the Pearl Buck made creaking sounds, facing attacks from three fronts—wind, rain, and lightning.

At the same time, in the other corner of the world, the Twenty-Armed Keras slowly surfaced from the banks of a river before beginning to march towards the closest city.

Currently, only two Keras were alive, it and the Cloud Keras. All the other Keras had lost their lives.

But in the grand scale of things, none of this mattered as it continued to casually approach the city, causing alarms to resound within it as Mystic Humans soon blotted out its sky while the Horned Humans covered the ground.

"The lot of you seriously propagate like ants." It commented in distaste, watching the Artillery Canons of the city begin to accumulate power.

But, it didn't take any action, calmly continuing to approach the city, as if it wasn't being targeted by dozens of Artillery Canons.

Even though a Stage 6 Artillery Canon wouldn't harm it, if enough of them were to target it, even the Twenty-Armed Keras was bound to sustain injuries. Or at the least, some of its corruption would be expended.

But, it didn't seem to care about them at all, smiling as it withstood the Nacre arrows, eventually arriving before the city, only an arm's distance from its barrier.

Following that, it just stood there, not even budging an inch beyond, passively tanking all the attacks.

Honestly, if it had attacked them, then the people in the city would have been more at ease. But now that the Aberrant before them, a Keras at that, stood before them, doing nothing while withstanding their attacks, a strange sense of fear began to permeate through the hearts of them all.
