To receive a scolding from Pupillam was already something not new. Pupillam often scolded for acting careless and in her words thinking without using her head. Despite all the scolding she did daily, Lyn knew how much the girl cared for her. To the point that it's suffocating.
"I must ask you to refrain from taking such reckless actions from now on," Pupillam lectured, "I mean I know I've warned you and reminded you countless times over the last few years. But, let me repeat it. Acting so carelessly in front of the opposite gender, your behavior, and conduct.."
Lyn sweat fell, here she goes again with the scolding. Currently, they were in the waiting room, Kazuya said he would go ahead and see if the person he wanted was inside. Lyn felt uneasy letting him out of her sight, but Rhys said he would come along too. Lyn did not understand why, but since Rhys would be there, she felt more reassured.
"While I'm used to your behavior, please restrain yourself in front of other people. Unlike me, those people don't have a vow to protect your reputation."
Those people, huh? She's probably referring to Rhys and Kazuya.
"I understand."
"Do you really?" Pupillam looked at her with a doubtful expression on her face.
"By the way, now that you've spent time with him, what do you think?"
Pupillam sighed, "Don't ask my opinion on this regard, Princess. As a subject who serves you, it's only natural that I stay by Prince Allen's side on this matter."
That's true if they catch Pupillam supporting her love towards another person. People will easily misunderstand, and may even think Pupillam's encouragement is the reason why doesn't want to marry Allen.
"The investigation you did about Kazuya, can you tell me about it?" Lyn hesitated to ask Pupillam this question. But, this was something that had been on her mind for a long time, "He isn't secretly a Prince or anything is he?" A part of her wanted Kazuya to be a Prince; if he were, then it would be easy for them to get married. But another did not want it; if he is a Prince, there is more chance of him leaving her.
Pupillam shook her head, "Not like that. But his family aren't commoners. He belonged to a military family. The .."
Lyn immediately recognized the name, 'Ah, what a coincidence.'
"The family and yours, a prestigious household."
"You say prestige Princess, but the only reason why I am here today is because of your families kindness," Pupillam nodded, "Yes, sir Kazuya does belong to a warrior household. But, unlike mine, his family had prestige from the start."
"He should have a brother correct?"
"His half-sibling."
"An illegitimate child, huh?" Lyn mumbled. Such cases are not unusual. But now she understood.
"His mother loved him dearly, but I cannot say the same for his father. .." Pupillam paused, and Lyn saw her hesitate.
"What's wrong?"
"Remember when the Priest of the sacred church came to pay his respects?"
"Ah," Lyn nodded, "Back when he was talking about how magic in the church works?"
"I heard that one of the households used, no one of the females in sir Kazuya's household was used as a test subject for new spells. The Lady would often come home covered in bruises. Of course, when the head of the household found out, he made sure to stop these ridiculous acts. But, it left an emotional scar in the Lady's heart. She would frequently be subjected to nightmares of the brutal kind. In the end, the master had no choice but to resort to using dark magic."
The entire time Lyn remained silent as she tried to process her head aide's words. So, it was something like that, huh? Now she is starting to understand why Kazuya acts the way he does. Or rather, "It backfired I'm sure?"
"Yes, the effects the Lady suffered from being a test subject, and then the dark magic it caused her health to deteriorate quickly. She slowly lost her beauty and the strength she once possessed vanished. The head of the household no longer paid attention to her and started to see other women."
"That's sad.."
"It's not an unusual tale. The Lady was beautiful and brave. But, she was still a commoner in the end."
"In other words, because she lost the traits the master liked, she no longer had any use?"
"That's..."
Then, "Kazuya must hate nobles," Lyn mumbled. No doubt, as a young boy, he experienced even more hardship than she imagined.
"Princess Lyn.."
"He probably sees me the same as those who discarded his mother," Lyn already knew how others treated royals, but this was still painful for her.
Her thoughts broke off when she hears Kazuya footsteps; she immediately got up and hugged him tightly.
"My cute and adorable Lyn, what's the matter?"
"Nothing," Lyn mumbled. That's a lie, but Kazuya probably won't be able to tell. If Kazuya hates nobles, then she wonders if he hates her too. If he does, it wouldn't be a surprise to her. After all, it is his mission to seduce and then throw her away. But, she wants to believe in his words. Lyn held him tightly.
"This probably isn't the time, but I want to kiss you. Your acting so adorable right now.."
Rhys hits Kazuya across the head, "Save that for another time. I don't want to see you two making out."
"Ouch, that hurt. What are you doing injuring my genius brain for?"
"For a genius, you act like an idiot most of the time. Your girlfriend can vouch for that too."
Kazuya turned to her and flashed a huge smile, "My Lyn will side with me."
How is he so sure about that? Though it is true, she would side with him no matter what. Kazuya understands her very well. Maybe he's just putting on an act? No, Lyn shook her head. For sure those words he said to her are real.
