Then again, who wouldn't stare? Aside from her height, one can tell she is a kid. She has sophisticated features on her face, even her height isn't normal for a girl her age.
"How does lemon sherbet sound?" Lyn said happily as she read out the flavors.
"Lemon? Huh, don't you want something better? Look there is chocolate here or strawberry," Arthur pointed to the other flavors. Most girls like these things don't they?
Lyn shook her head. "But look, you can even see the lemon peels. They must have made it themselves."
"Homemade, huh? Let's get it."
His thoughts broke off when she laughed. "What?"
"I just thought that it's like you. You seem to like homemade things."
Arthur scratches his hair.
"Is it that obvious?"
Lyn laughed, "No, I think I've been watching you too much."
At that comment, he looked away. If this girl weren't younger than him, he would have seriously made a move already. She spouts such innocent sounding lines. He reached over and patted her hair, "Don't be so defenseless in the future."
"Hm?"
"Nothing, two lemon frozen ice please," Arthur called out. While they were not exactly in the line, due to his tall height and loud voice, the workers heard them. Many people looked over and glared but said nothing. This is how things are over here, after all. First, come first serves.
Still, "You keep making that cheery face, is this all new to you?"
"Yes, I've never gone to a place like this before."
"You're acting like a child today," Arthur commented. He almost forgot her age because of how mature she's been acting and let's face it; she doesn't look like a child at all.
Lyn pouted, "What is that supposed to mean?"
"Nothing."
"You're implying something."
"I'm not!!!"
"And now you're acting suspiciously.."
This girl, why is she so sharp for? "Thank you for waiting," the workers held out their frozen ice, and Arthur takes it from them. He passed one to the girl and kept the other for himself.
"Mmm! It's delicious," Lyn beamed happily.
She's making such a stupid face. Well, he supposes an outing like this isn't bad at all. He's been cooped up in his room for the past few days. Getting a breath of fresh air like this is indeed better.
___
After they finished eating their ice creams, they continued walking. Lyn peered over at Arthur, he's an odd person isn't he? He clearly knew that she didn't have permission to go out and yet here they are. Maybe she should have reminded him about the rules. No, he knows them. Lyn shook her head, why is she overthinking this? She ought to be grateful that she can go out.
It seems very lively around here. There are even kids running around. What's more, they are beside the sea. This is the first time she's seen the sea. Lyn beamed happily, indeed breaking the rules once in awhile should be fine. It's not like she came out where alone. It should be fine if they return before master and Abeno does.
Lyn's thoughts, however, broke when a group of kids crashed into her. She immediately lost her balance. The kids immediately rushed off.qs
"That must hurt, can you stand?"
Lyn tried to do so, but it only came out as a pained cry.
"What? Did your foot gets twisted? Here, let me look."
Lyn nodded. She felt nothing when at first, but now she can feel a throbbing pain.
"It's a bit swollen," Arthur rubbed her ankle, and she winced in pain. "...Okay, get on."
Arthur turned his back to her and squatted. Lyn looked at him puzzled. Does he want her to get on? Well, she supposes there is no choice. It doesn't seem like she will be able to work.
Lyn muttered an apology as she climbed on.
"Up we go…"
Wah...Now that he's carrying her, she can see just how tall he is… Her gaze softened, now that she thought about it the last person who did this for her was her eldest brother. Arthur resembles him a bit. Her thoughts broke off when she looked up and saw somebody approach them.
Oh, it's those kids from earlier… Lyn looked at them blankly.
"I'm sorry about running into you. Is your leg okay, miss?" While the boy was trying to put on a brave front, Lyn could tell he was on the verge of tears too. Light scr.a.p.es covered his forehead.
"She's on the clumsy side, so don't worry about it."
Lyn glared at Arthur, what clumsy side? How rude!
Well forget it, Arthur does have a laid back attitude. He isn't like an a.d.u.l.t at all. This is one of the main reasons why she is comfortable around him. Lyn smiled, "It's okay; just be careful next time."
"Okay, and sorry again miss," after a few more apologies, the group of kids rushed off.
"It's good that the kids came up and apologized to you."
"Isn't that normal?"
Arthur shook his head, "If it were me, I'd never do that."
He's saying it like that's something to be proud of… Lyn sighed, "I guess we have to go back now," her ankle did hurt. She won't have a good excuse now. It will be clear to Master and Abeno that she went outside.
"You're going to keep carrying me like this back to the mansion? Isn't it far, though? I'm too heavy... Your arms will hurt."
Lyn thought he would send for a carriage.
Arthur grinned, "Your light as a feather my Lady. Relax, we aren't going back yet. We've barely been gone for two hours. We can still have some fun, but we first have to get your leg treated."
...
"Here we go. This place seems good, yeah?
Currently, they were on the side of a big market… While there were a lot of people here, Lyn liked the crowds. She enjoyed seeing so many people in one area. Arthur kneeled down and ran his fingers through her foot. Lyn flinched.
"Is this where it hurts?
"Ah, ow..."
"It's really swollen...is it still hard to move it?"
"Ah-huh."
"I'll grab some ice," Arthur looked around. "Will you be fine alone for a bit?" He seemed hesitant, and vaguely frightened. Lyn immediately understood. She did see those reports earlier; random murders are happening around town. It's only normal that he doesn't want to leave her alone.
"It's fine, I'll just stay here.."
"Then, stay put for a while," Arthur placed his belongings down and pressed something on her palm. "Take this pocket knife. Even a kid like you can use it."
"Arthur, I'll be okay. But stay close by please."
Arthur smiled and ran his hands through her hair. "You really are a good child. Relax, nothing will happen," with those words said she watched as Arthur disappeared into a sea of people.
Maybe it would be better if they stopped at a medic shop. There were some on the way here, but Arthur didn't stop. Those areas, there were no benches after all. He's probably ran back to that place. It was only a few steps away, Lyn memorized the route too. She probably should stop getting paranoid too. Lyn took a deep breath and hummed. The fresh sea air made her feel very peaceful and happy. Even though sneaking out is against the rules...
Why is sneaking out against the rules anyway? Lyn didn't want to think about it too much before but now given a chance she found it strange. Her treatment in the monastery is slightly better than at home. But she is still restricted. Did eldest brother make those arrangements? It wouldn't surprise her. She remembered the night he dropped her of here. It was very abrupt. But the people in the monastery were clearly expecting her.
