"It's still surprising, you know?" Allen mumbled. "That man isn't suitable for you.
Light laughter escaped her lips, "I see, so that's how things are. But, Allen - for me. Kazuya is enough; he always will be."
Allen took something out of his cloak; it was a thick looking brown folder. Lyn blinked when she saw it. She knew what it was despite looking at the plain envelope. However, it's surprising that Allen has it.
"Do you know..."
Allen nodded, "I do. You really surprise me every day now."
"Ah, well, I can explain."
He shook his head, "You don't even have to explain anymore. Lyn, I told you before that nobles are the very opposite of free, didn't I?"
"Yes, yes, you did."
She remembers those words so very clearly. Back then, the two of them were still close. Now? The distance between them is so large. Though Lyn feels she has gotten to know him better now. There is a large distance between them, a gap. Because she fell in love with Kazuya. Things like canceling the engagement, they have yet to speak about it properly. However, it's something that will eventually happen.
The air in the dungeon felt frigid, as Lyn stood there and waited in silence with Allen. She noted how it gradually grew colder. Even with the warm cloak, she felt the winter breeze. Lyn frowned, "Isn't there something wrong?"
Allen shifted his gaze from her, and Lyn sighed. "You know, I'll find out, eventually. So, why don't you tell me?"
"One of the Knights from the Snow Kingdom is losing control of their powers. They series refuge here after severely attacking somebody."
Her eyes widened when she hears those words. Which Knight? Could it be him? Lyn clutched the edge of her cloak. Even though those two initially came here to defend her.
"Lyn, do not blame yourself."
"But, I will," she mumbled. "That's just how I am."
..
Three Days Later - Aria Gates -
Lyn feared that she wouldn't be able to make the three-day time limit. No matter how anybody looked at it, such time is far too small to investigate. What's more, a deep sigh crossed her lips. She felt terrible for Kazuya. She was the one saying all that stuff about working together side by side. But, she is the first to break the promise. After Lyn decided that and informed Kazuya, he looked so grim. But, he cheered her on regardless. He's most likely still in the dungeons, helping Rhys group out.
Did he even go home? Lyn knew he didn't, since she decided to stay in his residence. Sleeping overnight in the dungeons for three days must be painful. After all this, she will go to him right away. Lyn already found the answer; she clutched an old battered book to her chest.
"We said it isn't possible. You know the academics aren't allowed out at night. And you want us to close the gates ! That's even more impossible. This is the gate to the main town, you know?" The chief guard looked very irritated.
"How many people and goods do you think pass through here every day?"
What stubborn guards; they don't have time for this right now. Then again, these people are only doing their jobs. It would be wrong of them to listen to just anyone's request. So, no matter how frustrating it is. She has to be patient.
"That's why the reason we're asking in the middle of a snowy night is because it'll be bad if we're too late." Himuro said.
"Regardless, we can't do what you ask. Come back in the morning."
They are stubborn. Perhaps if she had revealed to Haki that she was coming here, then the guards would have recognized her. But right now, she has no time to spare at all; rather than her guard, there is someone who holds event higher authority in this place. "Understood. If you don't let us pass through, then call Prince Allen over here."
All she can do now is call for her fiance. She knew dropping his name would work. Sure enough, their expressions changed.
The man with her looks over completely puzzled at her actions.
"His highness Allen?"
One of the guards burst into laughter at her suggestion. Lyn sighed, is it that surprising?
"Hey, hey, listen to this. This woman wants to speak with Prince."
"Hah, not just anyone can."
"There is no need."
Lyn glanced over at the source of the voice to find the blonde-haired third prince. Right, he did say earlier that he would be at the checkpoint. "Did you figure something out?"
"Yes," Lyn nodded.
Allen shuts his eyes and opened them again, "Okay then."
The guards were giving them funny looks. Lyn understood why.
Lyn looks at him, completely stunned. Wait, Allen? Shouldn't he listen to her explanation first?
Right here, right now. Why would I ignore the words of someone valuable? But even more than that," his hands brushed over to her hair that was hiding her earring. "To ignore the words of my fiance would do not be right."
"Allen?"
"Ehhh? The second princess?!"
The guards immediately looked alarmed and averted their gaze. She supposes they've at least heard of her, to react that way. Still, Allen is acting so strange. With some instructions, Allen got the guards to barricade gates and spread the word. He grabbed hold of her hand, "Come, let's go see your sister."
"Ah."
"Even if we do this. Jurisdiction still has to go through her. Do not fret, I'm with you."
"Okay, Allen."
Her gaze fell on their intertwined hands. How peculiar, he's never acted so recklessly before. Even holding hands was such a big deal to him before. It's hard to believe that he's doing this so easily, maybe he hit his head or something?
"Your chaperone isn't following?" Allen questioned as they walked through the bridge. The snow was light, but it was indeed snowing a great deal. How peculiar, it rarely snows in the Mist Kingdom. But, since the month started, there is a lot of snow.
Lyn shook her head, "Zepher instructed him not to intervene if you show up."
"I see, so he still respects our engagement to a certain degree it seems?"
"It's more like, he doesn't want to cause problems with the Wind Kingdom," Lyn mumbled. Respect the engagement? Whenever anyone brought it up in the past, he would curse a lot. Since she met him again, Lyn has not had the chance to speak to him about it. However, there is no doubt that he would react the same way.
"Cause problems, it seems the Sound Kingdom doesn't mind."
Her sweat fell when she hears his somewhat bitter tone. Uh oh, it seems like she can't avoid a lecture from him.
