Kazuya only asked an innocent question, but he immediately saw how uncomfortable Lyn felt. Rhys sighed, so that basket of stuff is most-likely for him. But for Lyn, admitting that must be awkward.
"Lyn, Kazuya," Rhys called out. The two glance over. "Both of you come here."
At that comment, Lyn immediately looked away. "I have lessons to attend to. I will see you later." With those words said the girl hurriedly left.
Rhys sighed, and he called out. "Kazu-"
His sentence fell short when something went past him. Kazuya placed the basket on the table and Rhys rolled his eyes.So he already knew?
"Fix things with Lyn."
Kazuya shook his head. "There is no point. Besides, isn't this good for you? It was originally your mission anyway."
"That's true," Rhys agreed. "It is good for me. But honestly, I need both of you to work together. Us three working as a team has worked well so far. So you two acting awkward like this is bad for me."
If he didn't have a mission or work. Rhys would have welcomed Kazuya's sacrifice. But, 'They are running out of time.' Queen Orthez seems anxious lately. Rhys saw her gathering her troops the other day, and she increased the security around them. That woman is planning something.
"I know. But she is the one who…"
"Lyn broke up with you?"
Kazuya slumped down on the couch and exclaimed. "She did. She insisted she wasn't doing it for you though…"
His eyes twitched in annoyance. "You had to say that."
"But it's true."
"So?"
"She's investigating something. I don't really know what it is. But she thinks it's too dangerous for me to get involved in." Kazuya mumbled.
Rhys recalled the scrolls he saw the other day and a knowing 'ah' escaped his lips. So that's why. Indeed, Lyn can't openly investigate with Kazuya lurking around her. No, being in a relationship with someone will only hinder her now. Lyn wants to test out her dark magic.
'It makes sense why she is okay with him. Why she meets up with only him in private.' Rhys sighed. Maybe it would be better if he didn't learn that. Still, he would rather learn the truth then keep up this little charade. Then again, why is he so surprised? Did he actually think Lyn liked him?
"But you know Rhys," Kazuya looked over at him. "Did you notice?"
"Notice what?"
"Lyn treats you differently now."
Rhys rolled his eyes at that comment. "Hey, calm down. Don't get jealous. She loves you, she is only using me."
"Using you? That maybe true. But…"
'That maybe true?' Rhys' eyes twitched in annoyance when he heard that. At least deny that much. Then again he understood what Kazuya was getting at. This is difficult for both of them. "What will you do? Until this is over?"
"My departure to the sound Kingdom is soon. I will sort things out with Lyn when I come back." Kazuya walked over to the window. "Can I ask you to take care of her?"
"Do you even know what you are asking?"
"I think I do, even if you like her. You aren't unreasonable."
"Damn." Rhys muttered. "You know I hate it when you say things like that. Don't you understand Kazuya? The two of us are in serious trouble."
"Correction, I'm in trouble. Not many people know of your affections for her. Yes you openly flirt with her. But everybody thinks you're doing that for the sake of the mission that I'm failing at." Kazuya laughed. "Seduce Lyn? It was harder than I thought. That girl does not believe in love."
Such a hazard look in her eyes. "That girl wont be swayed easily."
Kazuya nodded. "I have to agree with you there. But you know Rhys. Lyn is still a girl. She is still a normal girl who wants to fall in love like any normal person. You know if she waited for a bit more. I think Prince Allen would have eventually told her his feelings for her."
"I agree. But Lyn couldn't take the loneliness anymore. Our appearance lead her to believe that Prince Allen doesn't care for her, at least not romantically."
"That guy is just old fashioned." Kazuya sighed. "But if something happens to either of us, he is the only one I can trust Lyn to."
...…..
After sending Kazuya away. Rhys continued to glance outside the window. Even though they are living in confinement, and the main town is surrounded by an army. The people in the castle act like nothing is wrong. 'Such foolish minded individuals.' It's no wonder everybody back home is angry at them. The people here live their lives like nothing is wrong. While there are those fighting battles every single day.
Rhys stood up and walked out of the room. 'He needs to go out.' They are on lockdown yes. But it's okay for him and the others to exit the castle. Being granted this level of freedom. Rhys also understood the reason why. He paused when he saw somebody leaning against the window. He hurriedly made his way over.
"What's the matter? I thought you had to go."
Lyn extended her hands out and Rhys instinctively walked over. The girl caressed her cheeks. "I was checking on you. Are you okay?"
"Well, that depends. What do you mean by okay?"
"I wonder..."
'This girl, does she plan on telling him the truth?' About using him? About -- his thoughts broke off when Lyn wrapped her arms around his neck. "What are you doing?"
"Why do you look so sad?"
'Damn, she saw right through him.'
"Are you using me?" Rhys asked.
Lyn drew back slightly and nodded. "Yes, yes I am."
She admitted it so easily. "Let go."
She shook her head, "I don't want to. Hey Rhys, if you know everything. How can you still like me? The reason why your life turned upside down was no doubt because of me."
"Don't," Rhys mumbled. "It wasn't because of you."
"You already know but you're denying it. Do you like me that much Rhys?"
"I do."
Awkward laughter escaped her lips. "You admitted it just like that. How am I supposed to react?"
"You should kiss me."
Lyn leaned forward slightly. Their lips only made light contact. "If you understand I'm using you, then you should know by now. Rhys, towards you.."
"I know you don't love me, Lyn. I knew that from the start. But, even then I need not hear it."
