Rhys watched as a complicated expression appeared on the girl's face. It's not like he doesn't understand completely where she is coming from. But up until recently none of this stuff mattered to him. He wants to take his time with her, and to gradually learn everything. But at the same time he understood that he does not have the luxury of time.
'Those people are gradually getting impatient.' By those people Rhys referred to the members of the Sound Kingdom. Everybody in their team here has gotten attached to Lyn, so nobody has reported anything. They've all kept their mouths shut. That's a good thing otherwise they wouldn't be able to stay with her.
His thoughts broke off when he saw Lyn's cheeks puff into a pout. He chuckled and wrapped his arms around her. "Don't get mad anymore."
"You're always fooling around." She pushed his hands away. "I'm going to be busy, so don't bother me for awhile."
'She is so helpless.' Acting coy with him? Since they started this unusual relationship Rhys has learned more things about her.
He grabbed her wrist and turned her around, he used this chance to kiss her deeply.
For the next few minutes the only sounds in the room were her beautiful m.o.a.ns.
"Do you get it yet?" Rhys mumbled when he parted their lips. Lyn's entire face was beet red, her breathing was unsteady.
The next thing he knew though the girl shoved him with a huge amount of force. Rhys sighed deeply. "Don't use your powers over something like this."
".."
"Besides you're the one who came here."
At that comment Lyn mumbled something but Rhys clearly heard her. This woman is so complicated. Rhys sometimes wondered how Kazuya managed to deal with her.
"Why did you come here?" Rhys asked in a serious tone. If she wanted to fool around like usual she wouldn't fight back as much.
"I just wanted to ask you something, do you know about the strange rumors regarding us?"
"Rumors?"
"The ones going around in the castle and town."
Rumors huh? The thing is since he came here, he has become a subject of gossip. At some point he stopped listening to it all. "Do these rumors bother you?"
He doesn't deny nor answer her question.
Lyn bit her lip. "I just want to clarify something. I am nobody's possession. I like you but there are limits - you don't own me. I have my own free will. If I don't want to do something you can't make me."
So there are those types of rumors now? Honestly, this is irritating. Why does she have to concern herself so much about such pointless matters?
Rhys pulled her back into his arms before he pushed her down onto the couch. Lyn hits him but he grabbed hold of her hands. "Stop struggling."
"I'm being serious here. I hate it when you behave this way."
"Then what do you want from me?"
Lyn hesitated before she leaned forward and lightly kissed him.
"I want you to be honest."
Rhys sighed deeply. "Aren't I honest all the time?"
"Your always hiding something."
'It's not like I want to.' If possible Rhys didn't want to hide anything from her. Lyn deserves to know everything. She is the future Queen of the Mist Kingdom. He came here intending to destroy this place but how can he do that now?
Now that Lyn has resolved to take the throne, how could he go through with that plan? Kazuya and the others think the same too. If they destroy this place like the original plan then Lyn will become their enemy.
It is a scenario he wants to prevent as much as possible.
"Your sleeves…" Lyn mumbled.
"Hm?"
Lyn sighed and extended her hands out. "Let me fix it for you."
Rhys nodded and loosened his robs so she could work on the sleeves. His gaze fell on the girl who was concentrating.
"Don't you think we fight a lot more these days?"
"If we fight it's because of you."
"Are you not satisfied with me?"
Lyn bit her lip. "You know that's not the point here…" She trailed off. "I don't want to fight with you Rhys."
Fight huh? Back when she was together with Kazuya they bickered a lot. But something is different now. He leaned forward. "You look prettier and smell nice." He didn't answer her question and interlocked a strand of her hair with his fingers.
"These clothes do you recognize them? You bought them for me when we first met."
Now that she mentioned it, it did look familiar. Back then he teased her and said if she wants to get Kazuya's attention she ought to behave more like a woman.
To think she actually -- his thoughts broke off when he felt her lean forward. "Do you want to get close to me?"
Lyn's gaze didn't waver. "Is that such a surprise to you?"
Hah, she really is becoming braver. Rhys cupped her cheeks. "You know Princess Lyn, any day now I can become your enemy."
Right now he is disobeying those people's orders but eventually he won't be able to. If they activate that magic, Rhys knew he would be weak to resist. If that happens he may end up attacking Lyn.
"When that day comes." Lyn trailed off as she lightly kissed his lips. "I will end my life alongside yours."
His eyes widened when he heard the words that passed her lips. It seems he has underestimated her. But right now this is enough. If Lyn can say such things about him then when the time actually comes he won't be afraid. She is stronger than he thought.
....
A few hours later
Rhys is looking out of the window, pipe in his hands. A girl with long black hair fast asleep on his lap. 'A fool.' A huge fool. What is she thinking? These days he can no longer tell what is on her mind. Ever since she broke up with Kazuya, he could no longer read her thoughts. But maybe this is for the best.
His thoughts broke off when Lyn stirred awake. She opened her eyes after a few seconds and covered her face with her hands.
Rhys laughed. "Acting shy now?"
"I think you are quite foolish."
"So you've told me."
He removed her hands from her face. "So Princess Lyn, are you tired?"
Lyn looked away. "You're not going to let me rest? I have a long day tomorrow."
"If that's the case, sleep."
Tomorrow he will have to deal with some unsettling business and leave at dawn. He wanted to speak with her for a bit longer but if she is tired it can't be helped.
"Goodnight."
