Chapter 38 38:First Assignment
Transylvania Tower was a 50 floor-tall luxurious building. There were hotels, business groups, and many others. The entire building was owned by the Blood Net organization.
On the upper floor hotel, only members of Blood Net were permitted to stay. It acted both as a warehouse for the members as well as a place for the transactions of people from different camps where fighting or killing was not allowed and anyone who broke the rules, would not only be banned but would be hunted till death.
After getting the pass, Leon went to the 41st floor. It had a classic interior, with various types of dark brown furniture adding a pristine and beautiful austere.
Leon was a bit taken aback seeing how openly these people conduct business.
Coming forward to the front desk, Leon flipped a coin having a serpent head. Then he was brought to the 42nd floor. It was a place inhabited by assassins. Even a random sweeper or cleaner may be capable of bringing your life to an end here.
'Except for the man who is in the Martial Grandmaster realm, all other pretty low tiers.'
The dark path may provide an escape and way for a nobody to rise but reaching the end and gaining a reputation, was an arduous and daunting task.
Leon entered this route just to lie hidden from the bothersome eyes and know how deep the water of the world is.Till now, he was discovering new things hidden.Being a modern cultivation world, a lot of things lay to be uncovered by him.
Secondly, this wasn't a novel or manhwa, where low-level would come to deal with him. With the last failed attempt, Seph or the others would send a stronger foe and he didn't want to spend all day dealing with them.
Moreover, he was here for registration mainly as if he did this in Aetheria, there was a 90% chance of encountering a snitching dog from bigger families looking over newcomers.
Another man took the coin wearing a white glove, scanned the coin, and then set it down in the semi-private corner.
The man opened a black ominous laptop to register him and started asking questions.
"What will your code name be?"
"Noel!"
The man coughed, "Bit short. Need to have at least six characters."
'What's up with this? Am I setting a password or something?'
"Hunter," Leon answered casually.
"The name had already been taken. Generic names like Hunter, Killer, Dealer, and Observer along with color names had already been used, and the organization doesn't allow you to have a name that had already been taken by others."The man explained.
Leon smacked his lips in annoyance. He wasn't on the creative side to come up with good names. Thinking for a moment, he finally came up with a decent one.
"Noel Star!"
"Noel Star...Alright."
The man quickly recorded it and entered it into the database to create a profile for Leon.
"You are a reserve assassin with a blank profile resume. The Assassin class is divided by rating 1 star to 5 five stars. The assessment is done based on the achievement not on the personal level. You will rise to 1 Star after finishing your first mission. You can access your profile on the Blood Net site on the dark web. If someone picks you up, you will get a message and we will also contact you. Until then you can pick an assassin quest from the list that is open to everybody."
"You are free to accept or reject the mission but once taken if you can't finish it,you have to bear the penalty. And we will take 8% of the rewards as our cut. If you have any questions, you can call us at our reception."
Leon controlled his twitching lips. In terms of work, they aren't doing anything except providing a platform for petty criminals yet they take 8%.
'I wish I could hack the Blood Net and know which shit ass posted this. Alas, I am not sure if they have hackers on a higher level than me.'
'No need to look for additional trouble,'
On scanning further, he saw an assassin mission of a CEO. Its difficulty was low while the money was good but just as he was about to accept this, the man suddenly jolted and said.
"Me. Noel, you have a personal assignment."
"Who picked me up with that blank resume?"Leon questioned.
"Such a thing is quite rare but it happens when people try to spend less to get the work done, "The man answers with puzzlement.
"The employer wishes to speak with you privately if possible."
"Okay!"
....
Half an hour later, a middle-aged man walked hastily with a deadpan expression. He looked like someone who had given up on living.
He looked around before he came forward to greet Leon.
"I am Rohan Sing."
"What is the reward for the assignment and what target level?"
"A man with dozens of people. The location is right in the city at the docks and the remuneration will be $5000."
"Only this much and what's about the person's information," Leon asked with a frown.
Seeing this, Rohan immediately burst into tears.
"Sir, please help me. My son and daughter had been kidnapped by them. I had been turned down by others due to money so I decided to try my luck with you."
"Why would they kidnap your children if you aren't even rich?"
"That's because I am a government official and didn't agree to their terms to pass the fake medicines."
Leon sighed, closing his eyes. The man's worried expression with sullen puffy eyes made him look quite pitiful.
Taking up a moment, Leon got up and walked towards the window, looked at the watch that showed 10:30 AM, and then looked outside.
"It's a fine day with the sun shining on us with the warm rays in the cold winter. Sir, when do you have your lunch?"
"At 2 PM," Rohan uttered hurriedly but then perplexed by the question.
Leon then gave a gloomy aloof look covered by a crazy smile.
"Sir, go to a fine dining restaurant and order something during lunch time. By the time you finish, I will have finished the task."
