“It’s such a pity that he’s gay.”

Pei Ge shook her head in amusement.

“Alright, let’s go!” She pulled her best friend toward the hotel where she was going to have her date with Wen Qimo.

Under the hostess’s amiable smile, the two friends took the elevator toward the restaurant he had made a reservation.

“Yo, that lad sure has good taste!” Tang Xiaoyu praised as she studied the four-person table beside the floor-to-ceiling window.

“If only that lad isn’t gay, whether it is his personality or his taste, he gives off a gentlemanly vibe.”

“Pfft! Maybe, you won’t be saying that when you see him.” She regarded her friend with amusement.

“Why?” Tang Xiaoyu looked at her with puzzlement, feeling curious about this unknown Mr. Wen Qimo.

“You’ll know why later!” She merely grinned. If she had to explain it now, she would be unable to do so clearly.

My clever friend should realize his personality when she meets him later!

“Tsk, so secretive.” Tang Xiaoyu raised an eyebrow at her secretiveness and then scanned the restaurant for other vacant seats.

“I’ll sit over there. It’ll give me a wide view of what’s happening on your side later and be able to see what kind of person your ‘boyfriend’ is.”

Tang Xiaoyu chose a seat that was three tables away.

“Mhm-kay. Be patient; this date should end really quickly.” She nodded with a smile.

“You can sit there with me while waiting for your ‘boyfriend’!”

Saying this, she practically dragged Pei Ge toward her chosen table.

“Can I get you anything, dear customers?”

The waiter arrived shortly after they sat down.

Not wanting to make the waiter linger around them, Tang Xiaoyu quickly ordered two desserts and drinks.

“It’s almost 12 noon, but your boyfriend isn’t here yet.”

Within ten minutes, Tang Xiaoyu was already losing her patience.

“Perhaps, there is a traffic jam. He should be here soon.”

She had just finished speaking this when a man in silver suit walked over.

“He’s here!” She elatedly waved at him as she informed Tang Xiaoyu.

Tang Xiaoyu swiftly turned her gaze on to the man striding over.

“Ge Ge, did you wait long? The traffic is really heavy today,” he asked apologetically in a low but clear voice.

“It’s fine; we’ve just arrived ourselves.” She easily waved off his apology.

“Is that so? That’s great to hear.” He then shifted his eyes, which had narrowed into slits from smiling, on to Tang Xiaoyu, who had been checking him out ever since he walked over.

“Hello, I am Wen Qimo. I assume you are Ge Ge’s childhood friend whom she hasn’t met for a long time?” he asked with friendly smile.

“Hello, I am Tang Xiaoyu.” She shook his hand and arched an eyebrow.

This man… his aura and looks are truly outstanding!

He is quite a match for my best friend. It’s just a pity he is gay. What a waste.

“Let me borrow Ge Ge for now; I’ll definitely return her to you in one piece later.” He gave her a polite smile, seemingly sensing her measuring gaze.

“Okay.” She nodded grudgingly.

“Xiaoyu, sit here for a while; I’ll be back soon.”

After settling down at the table he had made a reservation for, she quickly regarded him with a quizzical look.

“Right. What exactly happened yesterday that made you ask me out on a date today? I sent you a message after, but you didn’t reply. Are you okay?” She held the warm cup and worriedly looked at him.

He shook his head and laughed. “I’m fine. Of course, as long as you help me, I will be fine.”

“What happened, then? You are being so secretive about this. Could it be that your parents found out about you being gay?!” she voiced out her guess in a pitying tone as she regarded him with a pair of unblinking, doe eyes.

“… You are thinking too much,” his mouth twitched as he replied with exasperation.

“What’s wrong exactly, then?” She was adamant to get an answer from him. If nothing happened, then why would he rush her?

“Actually…” He hesitated as he stared straight into her bright eyes. He was about to tell her the truth but paused as something crossed his mind. This date is really important. It will be bad if she does anything out of order.

Thus, he resolved to tell her the truth only after the date was over today.

I! Am! Truly! Not! Gay!

“Mhm?” She looked at him questioningly.

“Actually, you guessed half of it correctly. Today’s date is indeed related to my parents,” he abruptly shared this information.

“Huh? Related to your parents? What?” She could not wrap her head around what he had just said.

“My parents will be here soon.”

She was immediately stunned.

“Huh?! Your parents are on their way here?!”

“Yes,” he calmly affirmed, a stark contrast to her agitated reaction.

“This meal today is one where I meet your parents?!” Her mood immediately plunged. While she knew that this day would come sooner or later, the key point here was that she was totally unprepared for it!

“It’s not really a big deal. We’re just going to have a meal together. Don’t panic,” he reassured with an amused smile. Currently, she looked like a startled cat with all her fur standing.

“This is indeed not a big deal, but can you tell me in advance, so that I can at least prepare myself for it?!” She glared at him exasperatedly, her heart constricting.

She suddenly realized that her life was extremely pitiable and miserable.

The first marriage proposal she had received was fueled by a man’s desire to take revenge on his ex-girlfriend, and, this time, the first parent meet-up she would experience was because she was acting as a shield!

Sigh… Look at the life I have!
