Chapter 1340 - First appearance of clues; the truth surfaces.

“More than I love myself, my parents, and my children.”

Zhang Manhua was taken aback by his reply.

Having not expected such a reply from him, she suddenly did not know what to say.

After all, such a reply was not something an average person could give easily.

First, it was slightly against morals. Second, it was sufficient to show how much he loved her daughter.

Hence, she truly did not know how to respond to this.

“I understand…”

She finally found her voice after a pregnant pause.

Clear-headed now, the older woman was conflicted between being happy for her daughter finding a man who loved her so much and being worried for her grandchildren.

It was worrying to hear a father speak such words, after all!

Forget it! My grandchildren have their amazing mother to dote on them!

“Does it mean that you agree to letting your daughter marry me?”

The man’s eyes lit up, as though having just received hope.

She slowly shook her head. Before his face could dim, she continued speaking. “It is for my daughter to decide if she wants to marry you. You shouldn’t be asking me. If she agrees, you can be my son-in-law.”

“Alright, mom; understood.”

Ji Ziming’s lips curled up into a mellow smile.

“Don’t. Don’t call me mom now. You haven’t married my daughter yet.”

She raised an eyebrow at him and blatantly pointed that out.

Although she knew that her daughter would not marry anyone other than him and this man truly loved her daughter a lot, she still felt a little angry whenever she thought of the hurt and sorrow her daughter had gone through for the past five years.

“Got it, mom.”

He did not mind her warning at all.

His prideful and domineering attitude was flattened in those five years he had waited for his woman. At least, he did not have any temper as long as something was related to her. In fact… he was a little cautious.

“Okay. Go out now if you have nothing else.”

Although she no longer opposed her daughter getting together with this young chap and did not hate him as much now, she still did not want to spend a lot of time talking to him.

The man nodded his head and moved to leave. This was when he recalled something and stopped in his tracks.

“Mom, I’d like to ask you something. Is there a problem with your daughter’s health?”

Worry and confusion tinged his eyes as he posed this question.

“Problem with my daughter’s health?”

She frowned lightly, not understanding his question.

“Did something happen to her before?”

“Yes…”

He nodded and talked about his worry.

Pei Ge had not paid much heed to her coma-like state that one afternoon and only thought that she was too tired.

However, he felt otherwise.

“There’s this one afternoon when she said that her head was hurting so she went to deep sleep for an entire afternoon. She doesn’t care much about it, but I am a little worried even.”

At this point, his forehead crinkled tightly.

Similarly, Zhang Manhua had a grave expression.

She also frowned upon hearing that.

“You said that she had a headache and slept deeply for a whole afternoon?”

“Mhm.”

He nodded, asking urgently, “Mom, do you know something? Is there… something wrong with her health?”

“Problem. Is it…”

She muttered to herself for a while before lightly shaking her head. “It’s not exactly a problem.”

“What is it, then?”

As expected, something is truly wrong with her health! Her coma-like sleep that time was definitely not out of fatigue!

“You should’ve known that she was in a car accident once and hurt her head. Back then, she had a serious case of concussion and was even…”

At this point, the older woman’s expression contorted.

It was as though she were recalling a particular incident.

“What is it?”

He started panicking when she suddenly stopped talking.

The man did not probe about that incident because, back then, Pei Ge seemed to be fine and all his attention was on their wedding.

Hence, he was unconcerned about it initially.

Seeing how worried he was, Zhang Manhua decided not to tarry and quickly told him about it.

“My daughter was amnesiac before, so the deep sleep you mentioned might be a sign of her recovering her lost memories, or so that’s what the doctor back then told us.”

“How did it happen? Didn’t you guys give her treatment? She hurt her head!”

He reprimanded in his fluster.

Knowing that he was merely worried about her daughter, she did not get angry with him and merely calmly explained.

“We also thought of having her stay at a hospital for treatment, but after she woke up, we realized that she had selective amnesia, and it’s centered on her father’s death. Her last memory was before that, so we decided not to continue with the treatment because… that portion of her life was too much for her to handle.”

As she spoke, a light sheen of tears covered her eyes.

The memories back then were too painful and saddening…

“I didn’t want my daughter to suffer anymore, so I didn’t bring her in for treatment. Plus, the doctor also said that there’s no need to actively seek recovering her memories for she might or might not recover them. It wasn’t a dire issue back then, anyway, had no impact whatsoever in her life.”

The man found it slightly strange. Subconsciously, he wanted to clear his doubts.

“Mom, you said that your daughter had lost her memory when her father passed away; also… how did the car accident happen?”

“That’s something very odd. It’s been so many years, yet the culprit who drove the car into my daughter hasn’t been identified. The strangest thing is that the place of the accident was nowhere near our home at that time; instead, it’s on a remote road.”
