“Of course. Unlike someone else, Qu Jingwan accompanied me to the doctor’s, so you must really thank her properly,” pointedly informed his mother. Ji Ziming’s cold eyes turned darker as he placed his laptop on the coffee table and stood up.

“Thanks for sending my mother to the hospital and fussing over her until now,” he flatly said, seeming to be thanking her sincerely.

“Don’t say that. These are all things I should be doing.” She lowered her head, pretending not to see the cold smirk on his lips.

“I’m already back. Where is Pei Ge?” His elderly mother looked around the living room but did not see a shadow of the woman.

“I’m here.” A figure appeared at the staircase. Wearing a yellow-colored Chanel dress, her smile made her look like a magnolia in June that was about to bloom.

“The doctor already called to inform us about your condition. I made some pork rib soup for you. Why don’t you stay home to recuperate properly and not move around so much in the meantime?”

“Treating me so well?” The older woman frowned, sizing the other up.

“Don’t I always treat you well?” With a smile, she slowly descended the stairs.

“Pei Ge, auntie just came back, so don’t quarrel with her.” Qu Jingwan raised an eyebrow at her. The hint of mockery in her voice did not go unnoticed to the latter.

“I’m not quarreling with auntie; please take note of your words.”

“Aiya! Alright, alright. I’ll treat it as you doing it for my good. I won’t be bantering with you here and just go back to my room to rest. Jingwan, just bring a bowl of soup to my room later.” Madam Ji waved, and when she walked past her, the other gave her a meaningful look.

This gaze of hers was familiar, but Pei Ge was unable to recall when she had seen it.

“Auntie, I’ll help you up.” Qu Jingwan hurriedly followed the older woman, helping her climb the stairs slowly and carefully.

“Auntie hurt her waist, not her leg, right?” Pei Ge only pointed this out once the older woman was out of earshot.

“Don’t you think that she acts differently when that missy is around her?”

“I noticed. That lady is the daughter-in-law she acknowledges.”

With a displeased look, she turned to look at his laptop, which was displaying news regarding the Qu family, but before she could see what was on it clearly, the man closed it.

“So what? You’re the only wife I will have.” He sat beside her uncaringly. The sinking of the sofa beside her made the woman feel relieved as a warm feeling encompassed her.

“For your whole life?”

“No.”

She lowered her head, pretending not to look at him. Her heart, however, was dipped in a pool of ice because of his words.

“I want you to be my woman in my next life and even the following life.”

Ji Ziming spotted the wronged look on the face of his little woman. Even if he felt smugness in seeing her like that, his eyes were still as cold as ever.

“Hm?” She looked up at him in disbelief.

“Why? You don’t believe me?” He pinched her chin as his flawless face neared hers. His breath touched her face, melting the ice in her heart.

“You are my woman, and you can only be mine.”

“Cough, cough!” Qu Jingwan coughed from the staircase. Despite her eyes blazing with fury while looking at the couple getting intimate on the sofa, she still managed to reign herself in.

Pei Ge pushed the man away, but he brought her into his embrace again. “What are you afraid of? We are in our house.”

“Let go of me.” Although she was not scared of the lady, she still did not have the hobby of playing the kissing game in front of others. Only she herself needed to know of her happiness.

The missy’s fists remained balled up tightly, her pink nails digging deep into her palms, but she seemed oblivious and numb to the pain.

A grudge slowly filled her heart. She had always been a prideful and well-taken care of missy since young, but only when the woman on the sofa was involved…

Pei Ge, just you wait. I’ll definitely make you get thrown out of this house eventually. By then, you’ll know who’s the real mistress of this house.

“Ziming, auntie is calling for you.” She sucked in a deep breath, telling the man this in a tone which did not sound flattering.

“Oh? Why is she calling for me?” His eyes turned deeper as he narrowed them at the lady standing opposite them. He was almost sure of why this lady was adamant to stay in his family.

“I don’t know about that. I’m merely here to convey the message.” With that, she turned around and walked into the kitchen.

“Go on. That’s your mother, after all.” With a frown, the woman in his embrace struggled out of it and told him this.

He lowered his head and stole another kiss on her lips before smiling obligingly. “Okay. I’ll listen to you.”

Standing in front of the antique mirror, Qu Jingwan watched them flirt. Her nails dug into her flesh until the skin of her palm broke. You woman, I’ll definitely make you disappear!

Pei Ge looked up at the man as he got up off the sofa, his handsome features and sharp jawline showing. He pursed his lips lightly. “Stay here and wait for me; I’ll come back soon.”

“Okay.”

After he left, the missy walked out with a bowl of soup in her hand. She was smirking. “Your soup is really delicious. Is there a secret to it?”

She coldly eyed the lady. “It’s all about the heart.”

“Yes, it’s the heart that matters. I wonder if auntie’s ‘accidental’ fall was planned by someone?” The other kept smiling as her gaze on her became sharper.

“Don’t you know it best?”

“What do you mean?” Qu Jingwan’s face contorted in anger as her eyes widened at her. She appeared to be trying to see through her.

“D’you want me to spell it out?” Pei Ge sat up and smoothened her dress before sitting back on the sofa again. Her relaxed posture made it seem as though she were the madam of this household.

“You’d better be careful with what you say.”

“If you don’t want to let auntie know about today, then you’d better properly take care of my son. Don’t do anything because I will know it.” Pei Ge smirked in response.

This missy is truly looking down on me. Who was I before and who am I now? Does she think that I’ve stayed overseas for nothing all these years? At the very least, I can still handle a little lady like her.

“Hmph. Are you threatening me?”

“Nope, I don’t dare to threaten you. I’m merely telling you the truth.”

“It appears that you’re forgetting that Baby is treating me as his mother now. It isn’t important who you are!”

“The only use you have in this house is to take proper care of my son. Otherwise, without me moving a finger, Ji Ziming will have already chased you out.”

“You!”

“What about me? I’m merely teaching you to acknowledge your position and know your identity properly. You don’t have to be grateful to me, nor do you have to thank me.’

Following which, Pei Ge stood up without looking at the other and moved to walk up the stairs. Qu Jingwan was left alone in the living room, shouting profanities inside her at the leaving back
