“If that is the case, Ji Ziming won’t fall in love with me, so how will he marry me?”
Old Lady Qu widened her eyes and casually pinched a rose. Her low and hoarse voice was imposing as she spoke. “As long as you become that family’s young mistress, you don’t have to care whether that man loves you or not. Men are visual animals. He will one day be tired of that b*tch and know your goodness.”
“Will that really happen? I’m still scared.” Qu Jingwan noticed Madam Ji peering at her. The latter’s gaze made her so nervous that she almost threw her phone away.
“What are you scared of? No matter how Pei Ge fights with you, she is just one person. Can she really compare to the Qu family’s missus?”
“I’ll stop here, grandma. I have to go in now, or auntile will get suspicious.”
“Alright. Go, then. Remember: Don’t be anxious. Calm down and think of a solution no matter what happens. Panicking will get you nowhere.” Old Lady Qu sighed softly. It was her fault for protecting and doting on her granddaughter a lot, such that the latter was actually defeated so many times when met with a fierce adversary like Pei Ge.
“Yes. I will remember that; I’ll hang up now and go inside.”
Her granddaughter hung up the call and walked into the VIP ward. The moment she walked in, Ji Chi immediately sat up from the bed. “Auntie Jingwan, I just learned a new song, and I want to sing it to you.”
“So you learned a new song? Amazing! Then, I must listen properly to your singing. The song that a clever boy like you learns will definitely sound very nice.”
“That’s not it. The children’s song second brother learned is what I just taught him.”
Ran Ran sat by her brother’s bed and indignantly continued. “Auntie, you are biased. You are biased toward my second brother.”
“I’m not biased. Your second brother is so clever, so as his sister, you are even smarter. We have an old saying that goes: ‘Blue comes from Ai and is bluer than the Ai’. This is also suitable for using in this scenario.”
She half-squatted and caressed the girl’s fringe, asking in a sweet voice, “Do you understand?”
The little girl shook her head. Seeing this lady lower her body, she also took a small step back. “I don’t understand. What does it mean?”
“It means that the people who come after will be even more outstanding than the ones before. You are born after your second brother, so you will be even smarter than him.”
“Really?” The girl’s eyes shone brightly.
“Of course, it’s true. When have I ever lied to you?”
“Then, I will believe you. I now know that I’m smarter than my brother.” The girl turned around and smiled sweetly. “Second brother, I’m smarter than you are! I’m also smarter than our big brother!”
“Mhm. You are the smartest.” Ji Chi looked at her and then turned to stare at Qu Jingwan. She still had not heard him sing yet.
“Alright. Kids, shall we listen to your second brother’s singing?” She stood up and glanced at Madam Ji before saying with a smile, “Auntie, let’s hear it together.”
“Okay. Let’s hear Baby’s singing together.”
“I also want to sing.” Ran Ran’s interest was suddenly spurred. Perhaps because the lady had praised her, she was putting a lot of effort into singing.
The two, cute children’s singing voices echoed in the VIP room, and the little happenings in between made their grandmother laugh aloud.
In Red Star’s CEO office, Ji Ziming sat beside Pei Ge. One of his hands was propping his head, while the other was holding his woman’s hand. Their fingers intertwined as he stared into her eyes with deep love. The upward arch of his lips showed the joy he was feeling.
“What wrong?” Pei Ge looked at him curiously. He had been this way since he answered the call. “Who called you just then?”
“My mom.” His clear voice was tinged with a bit of warmth.
“What did auntie call you for?” As her right hand was being held by him, she could only use her left hand to flip the document.
Just a short while ago, the police laid out all of Huang Zhian’s punishments and fines, including all the evidence gathered about him. Revealing business secrets was already a serious criminal offense, but the guy, who was now in prison, was also unrepentant. Despite all the evidence laid out before him, he still refused to admit his crime.
“Why is he like that?” She frowned while looking at the document in her hand, getting angrier by the second.
“My mom said that she wants to bring you for a prenatal checkup.”
Her anger was instantly forgotten the moment she heard that. She looked up at him in shock. “A prenatal checkup?”
“Yes.” The man nodded.
“I’m not even pregnant, so how am I supposed to do that? Ask someone else to forge another confirmation?” She revealed a look of conflict. Madam Ji’s care and concern for her these past few days was already making her guilty enough for a few lifetimes.
“Now is the time when we reveal the truth.” His smile deepened, but it made her heart tremble in fear, instead.
“What should we do? How do we reveal the truth? Do we tell her that I’m truly not pregnant and it’s all just a lie?” She got more panicky as she spoke, as though wanting to flee and never to see the older woman again.
“What are you afraid of? You still have me.” He squinted his eyes at her, seeing through her fear. “You don’t trust me that much?”
“How am I supposed to trust you at this time? I feel like auntie will—”
“Will what? Don’t think such nonsense. I naturally have a way to handle my mother, but you also have to wrap-up the stuff in your hands before returning to home.”
“I think we should not go home. Ping An is still at the hospital.” She looked torn. Rather than the Ji family’s villa, she preferred the hospital ward.
“Okay, then we won’t go home; I’ll bring you to Ji Chi and we’ll accompany him tonight. Is that fine?” He retracted his hand and looked at the document in her hands. He was already informed about Huang Zhian’s situation at the police station before this was even sent.
That guy’s motive was to make use of Pei Ge, so he made an easily exposed lie about how he had just gotten married.
“You agree?” Pei Ge was in slight disbelief. She studied his expression but did not see any sign which was contrary to this.
“Why wouldn’t I?” He suddenly moved his face closer to her. His thin lips, which were slightly pursed together, almost made direct contact with hers. She was so startled that she reflexively moved a few steps backward. At the same time, Ji Ziming put his hand behind her head to protect it, but this caused her to knock into the glass tabletop behind her, instead.
“You…” The warm hand gripping her nape made her gaze slowly regain its warmth, too, as she regarded him.
