“I am truly speaking the truth. You can go check if you don’t believe me. I promise to you that everything is real.”
“I will have to see for myself if it is real.” He moved to kiss her the moment he said this. Her pink lips were too enticing for him as they touted his sight.
Knock, knock. A series of crisp knocks sounded at the office door. Standing outside the door, Cheng Liqing seemed to have heard the couple’s laughter and stood there blankly, not knowing whether he should leave or not.
“Come in.”
When the manager walked in, Pei Ge was sitting at the desk while Ji Ziming was on the sofa. By his side, was an extremely thin laptop. The man only looked up open hearing his footsteps and asked, “Is there anything you need me for?”
“Sir, I have a document that requires your signature.” He cautiously walked over to his superior. Noticing that he was in a video conference just then, he could not help but mumble inside, Did I hear wrongly? Were these two actually discussing work-related matters earlier? It must be that.
After finding an excuse for the earlier noise, he passed the document to the man. “There’s a car, which has been parked downstairs for a long time.”
“What car?” Ji Ziming frowned. Don’t tell me the police are already waiting for us downstairs?
“Seems to be a police car, but no one is getting out of it. Still, it looks like the one that brought Huang Zhian to the police station last time.”
“How come? That guy was captured in plain sight. If they’re open about it, why would they just wait there for people to come out, instead?”
The man shifted his laptop slightly to prevent his lips from being read by the person he was video-conferencing with.
“Sir is right.”
Cheng Liqing had his head lowered as he rubbed the back of his hands nervously. He peered at Pei Ge slightly. Her face was red, seemingly in a good mood.
“Do you have anything else?” The man spotted him peeking at his woman the moment he looked up. Hostility tinged his eyes slowly as his voice turned icy. “If there is nothing else, you may leave. Red Star doesn’t need useless people.”
The manager quickly retracted his gaze and received the document back from him before leaving the office. “Then, I will take my leave.” He escaped back into his work station, but his mind kept thinking of his beautiful lady boss.
“If only I could touch her once.” He sighed softly after closing the door behind him.
“Why were you so fierce with him?” Pei Ge, who had merely listened to the two talk earlier, finally spoke. She did not understand why the man was so rude to Cheng Liqing, when the latter only came to ask for a signature. In fact, his eyes seemed like daggers laced with poison.
“Because he kept stealing glances at you.”
Ji Ziming lowered his head and continued his video conference.
The call was from America. A dear friend, who was also his business partner abroad, came looking for his help, but as he had been too busy with Red Star and his family matters, he had not had time to talk to the guy.
The moment he heard the knocking a while ago, he quickly and nimbly straightened up and, as though a pet, helped the woman regain her balance. He then whispered in her ear, “Hurry and sit at the desk.”
Immediately understanding what he wanted to do, Pei Ge jogged over to occupy the chair and then randomly picked a document to look at, only to realize that it was the joint contract Red Star had signed with another real-estate company called Fanghua last year.
When the man pulled his laptop over, he coincidentally received a video call request from his overseas partner. Hence, he quickly answered it, resulting in the scene Cheng Liqing saw earlier.
“Not like I’ll lose anything from one look.” She smiled at the man, yet her voice was full of bliss. “If you treated the guy like that just because he glanced at me a few times, then if I walk along the streets, there will be more than just one person looking at me.”
“Then, I’ll use one as an example or dig out all of their eyes.”
“You are too violent.” She shook her head, not understanding his crazed behavior when it came to her.
“So what? It is my right to do what I want, but it’s different for them.”
He lowered his head and continued speaking in fluent English. This made her feel that the one who had just spoken was not him but an unseen person, instead.
“The car parked downstairs is from the police station, right? Should we go down now?”
“Wait some more before going down. Let them wait a little longer.” After saying this, his continued his conversation with his overseas partner in fluent English. This fluidity made her certain that this one was her man.
“Why? Are you anxious?” He looked up at her. “Don’t rush. After waiting a bit, they will know how a good show is supposed to start.”
His confident smile dissipated the last bit of the worry in her heart.
“Okay. I’ll listen to you.” She sat on the sofa and waited for him to finish his task at hand.
The sky was turning dark by the time the man was done with his video call. He put down his laptop and stretched a bit. “Ge Ge, let’s go down now.”
“Okay.” She closed the document in her hands. After a full day in the office, she was almost done reading all the files piled on top of Ji Ziming’s table. She knew at this point how big this company’s revenue was and how much of it was lost due to Huang Zhian leaking trade secrets. It had caused their stocks to plummet and several investors to pull out, resulting in the company founder to suffer a heart attack and get hospitalized from agitation.
With an arm around the man’s arm, she exited the elevator and headed to the entrance. The women in the lobby all stopped to look at this golden couple, especially the man, who had a flawless figure, handsome features, and aloof expression, which made them squeal in excitement.
“Don’t be afraid; I will go with you. No matter what happens, I will be there with you. You don’t need to worry about anything.”
“I know,” she answered softly.
When they reached the black sedan, a person quickly walked out from the passenger seat and told the man respectfully, “Sir, we are under orders to bring madam with us.”
“Alright. Let’s go.” He led her to the backseat of the black sedan.
