If it had not been for him, that girl might have passed away, so Ji Ziming wholly believed that there was no one else who could treat kids’ problems better than Joe and whom he could trust more than him.
“I’m very sure about this.”
There was a glow in Pei Ge’s eyes.
“Why is that?”
Joe, who was preparing to keep his items, paused and looked at the woman. He actually found her to possess charisma which made others have a lasting impression of her. She was different from the others he had met previously.
He enjoyed spicy food, especially the exceptionally spicy ones, and precisely because of this, he had been to many places just to sample on their spiciest cuisines. Joe appreciated women with natural beauty and disliked those who had undergone cosmetic surgery. Although Pei Ge was not a devastating beauty, she easily caught his eye.
As the pair continued their discussion, Ji Ziming did not speak a word. He was like air, but none could treat him like one.
“Whenever I get sick or injured, my boy always shows concern for me. Our relationship has improved recently, too. He’s already calling me ‘mommy’ but even though I’ve brought him to America for two days, he still can’t forget about that woman.”
“I think I’ve gotten a good idea on what your child’s condition is. Don’t worry; I’ll look for similar cases tonight when I get home. When you bring the boy over, I’ll see if there’s anything special about him.”
“Thanks, doc.”
Pei Ge smiled. She then frowned when she noticed the man next to her. “Ziming, do you have anything to add to what I’ve said?”
“I have none,” replied the man. The way he looked at Joe had a touch of wariness.
“If there’s anything you’re unsure about my son, you can ask me.”
His lips curled. The threat in his eyes was transmitted to the doctor.
Slouching in his chair, Joe smiled. “You’re really petty. I’ve merely spoken to your wife, yet you’re already feeling unhappy?”
“If you dare to have any thoughts about her, this hospital will be transferred to my name by tomorrow.” He stood up, his body looking tall and imposing as it blocked the sunlight streaming from the window.
As his frame cast a shadow on Pei Ge, she only felt that his pettiness was quite adorable.
“Ge Ge, let’s go.”
The man pulled her hand as he headed for the exit.
Joe, who was feeling bummed, shouted angrily, “Ji Ziming, I’m your son’s doctor; how dared you threaten me! Aren’t you afraid that I’ll do something?”
“Don’t you dare!”
His authoritative voice shut the other up. Looking at his aloof stature, the doctor could not resist scolding, “Who likes your wife? Do you think all men in the world like her?”
Alas, this was heard by the man, who then replied sweetly, “That’s right. That’s because she’s the prettiest and sexiest woman on Earth. I won’t let any male, who shows even the slightest interest in her, off.”
“What if that’s a dog?”
Joe could not believe that, after a few years of not seeing each other, his friend would transform from a topnotch big boss to a crazy, wife-lover. This thought did not deter him from retaliating, nonetheless.
“Are you talking about yourself?”
Pei Ge, who was not annoyed by the man’s display, burst out laughing. “If you speak further, he won’t be happy to see us when we visit him with our son. What if he bears grudges and gets even with you then?”
“He won’t because I have half the shares of this hospital. If he dares to offend me, I can sell it at once and give all his father’s inheritance to others.”
The man peered into his woman’s beautiful orbs with a smile, his voice sounding enchanting. “Let’s go home.”
“Ji Ziming, you’re insane! Couldn’t you spare a thought for a lonely man like me? You’re even threatening me with my inheritance. Let me tell you that I won’t let others buy it!”
Joe refused to admit defeat despite having never won in a spat with the man.
Neither in the present or in the future.
The man was not bothered even though he heard other’s words. He walked to the elevator with Pei Ge, and following the ding of the closing elevator doors, the woman saw that familiar-looking figure she had spotted earlier at the carpark.
She wanted to take a closer look, but the person disappeared as the doors closed.
Sensing that something was off about the woman beside him, Ji Ziming looked down at her questioningly. “What’s wrong?”
“I seem to have seen that person again.”
There was a slight uneasiness in the woman’s heart, though she could not tell why. She had not even clearly seen that person’s looks or dress and merely caught a moving shadow from the corner of her eyes.
“You did?”
The man’s vision became clouded as he lifted her chin with some pressure and peered into her eyes.
Her eyes fluttered, and his dark orbs captured this.
“I’m telling the truth,” said the woman seriously as the man showed his desire to kiss her.
“Really?”
Doubt sprouted in his heart. The people he had placed in this hospital were always on guard, so if there was any suspicious person around, how come they did not get alerted to this?
“What did you see?”
Ji Ziming’s face darkened; nothing was more important to him than her safety.
“I’m unsure. I only saw a vague shadow. I couldn’t even tell if that person was wearing a suit or a jacket.”
Pei Ge looked at the man, feeling vexed. She wanted to have a closer look at both times, but the person disappeared each instance as though they had never been there. If she had not seen it with her two eyes twice, she would have suspected that she was imagining it.
“Other than that, did you notice anything else?”
The man wanted to know more for he wanted to ensure this woman’s safety.
