“If you continue to watch me with such lecherous eyes, I won’t be able to promise that I won’t teach you a lesson here in this car.”

Ji Ziming’s lips curled upward. He, who was in an exceptionally good mood, had an obvious endearing look in his eyes.

“You’re so annoying!”

Pei Ge sat back in her seat properly after scolding him and turned her gaze away. She wanted to prop her chin against her hand, but it was pulled over by the man.

His voice was low and filled with enticement as he asked in a sweet voice, “Are you planning to give up just like that?”

“Of course. How long more do I have to stare at you?”

“For a lifetime.”

He stubbornly and capriciously stopped the car in the middle of the road, then put his hand behind her neck and pulled her over, ravaging her lips. His voice became hoarse yet cold. “Don’t ever think of running out of my palms in this lifetime.”

When the two of them reached home, the three children were sitting at the cubicle in the kitchen around Auntie Zhang. With their small and chubby hands, they de-shelled the edamames, with Ran Ran even getting competitive and comparing who de-shelled more with her brothers.

Ran Ran was always leading, for she would secretly steal a handful from Ji Chi’s basket and put them in hers when he was not paying attention. Even the witty and smart An An did not notice this. Standing some distance away, the old cook watched the playful Ran Ran and suddenly thought of how she was still an obedient girl when they first met.

Now, she had become the most precious thing to these two boys and was even the source of laughter in the family.

“Daughter, what are you guys doing?”

The moment she entered the house, Pei Ge’s attention was drawn to the kitchen by the sound of this girl’s laughter. When she saw the three children sitting on the small stools while de-shelling edamames, she smiled. “Are you children competing?”

“Yes, mommy. Look, I have the most edamames.”

Her daughter raised her red basket as though presenting a trophy. There was more than twice the amount of edamames in her basket than Ji Chi’s.

“Little sister, don’t think that I didn’t see you taking some beans from our second brother and putting it in yours.”

An An had his head lowered, thinking if his sister would ask for his life after exposing her.

“Nonsense! I didn’t!”

Ran Ran blinked her intelligent eyes at her mother, then said, “Mommy, did you see it? Did you see me taking beans from our second brother’s basket?”

“I just arrived, so I didn’t see, but I do think that your second brother is faster at de-shelling than you are.”

Pei Ge looked at his other son, who was silently looking at her while sitting on his stool, then smiled. She had noticed that her daughter’s nails were not dirty when she arrived. In contrast, there were some in the boy’s, and he was also clearly much faster than his sister.

“Hng! Mommy, you’re lying!”

Seeing that her mother was unwilling to help defend her, the girl put down her basket on the table with a thump. “I don’t care; I have the most beans.”

“It’s because you took our second brother’s.”

The oldest of the triplets was indignant.

“We already agreed that the winner is the one with the most beans in their basket; I didn’t say that it’s about who peeled the most.”

She blinked her eyes slyly. Even if Pei Ge was unwilling to help her, she still had many methods to win today’s competition. As long as she was willing, she would have all sorts of reasons.

An An nudged his lips. He had initially wanted to turn a blind eye to his sister’s actions, but now, he suddenly had no more urge to quarrel with her. He only said lightly, “It’s easy if you want to win. Second brother and I can give all our beans to you because you are our little sister.”

The girl was silent for a long time after hearing that. She only looked at him, then asked, “Big Brother, are you not angry?”

“Why would I be? You are my little sister, so I won’t get angry.”

He explained with a smile. There was a sense of maturity between his brows.

“Since you already said that I am the winner, then can I ask something from you?”

It was one thing for him to be protective of her, but it was another thing for her to be clever and crafty.

“Sure. Tell me what you want.”

“I want that comic book of yours. The one with dwarves.”

He laughed out loud, as did their mother while watching her daughter. “After so long, you are only doing this to ask your big brother for a comic book?”

“I am asking him openly. I am the winner, and the winner can ask for something.”

The girl refused to admit defeat. They had all acknowledged her as the winner just then, so she was it; therefore, she had the right to put up a request to her eldest brother. Since she was the winner, there should not be an objection to what she wanted.

Pei Ge looked at the lassie in front of her; she was young, but she knew the basics of being a winner.

She coughed a bit, looked at An An, and proposed, “How about this? Ran Ran, you will compete with your brothers again. Whether you are the winner or not, mommy will agree to one request from you and the next winner.”

“Mommy, are you saying that I’m not the winner?”

Ran Ran blinked her eyes, not really understanding what she meant. Her eyes shone cleverly, looking very much like her mother’s.

“What I mean is that if you and your brothers compete again, no matter who the winner is, mommy will still reward you, but you can’t cheat. If you don’t win, then mommy will also reward the winner.”

She bent down and lightly poked her daughter’s little nose, smiling dotingly.

“Oh, I see.”

Ran Ran revealed a look of enlightenment.

Of course, Pei Ge still gave each of the children a present.

Her daughter obtained the comic book she always wanted, her oldest son obtained the newest Gundam figurine, and Ji Chi obtained building blocks with higher difficulty—it was now more than two hundred pieces from the initial ten pieces.

After the whole family finished their dinner and returned to their rooms to rest, Ji Ziming suddenly received a call from the leader of the bodyguards, whose voice was hurried. “Sir, our car was hit by someone. It suddenly sped out while on the hill from a blind spot of the CCTVs.”

“Is anyone hurt?”

He narrowed his eyes dangerously. Someone had actually dared to do something while on his territory and even prepared to kidnap Qu Xiujie. This person was clearly not putting him in their eyes.

“Mr. Qu is fine and merely fainted. I’ve already called the private doctor to come to the hillside mansion.”

The leader of the bodyguard informed his plans but was rejected by the man.

“Don’t call the private doctor anymore. It’s not safe now.”
