Finally, a stage 4 upgrade.
It was the first to reach stage 4, and the other skills were quickly catching up as well. If she kept on fighting enemies at such a high level, it would only be a matter of time before the others also evolved.
With the mage dead, the corrupted bodyguards were wiped out. Astrid couldn’t erase the corruption and turn them back... because they were already long dead.
Her vision wandered to the throne where the lich once sat. Astrid’s brows perked as she saw a woman in the chair. Dead. She sat pretty with her hands crossed over each other on her lap. Wearing a yellow dress for the summer, she looked strangely at peace. It was a stark contrast to her surroundings of blood and death.
It was Darcy’s wife.
But why was she here? What for?
She wasn’t able to pry the information as she was too focused on their plans. It wasn’t important enough for her to divert her attention.
Astrid realised that with everything going on. Both in the shadows and on the surface, there was just too much she didn’t know.
She sighed and approached the woman. Touching her head, she used Disintegration as her body disappeared. If Astrid needed her body in the future for evidence, then it was already branded into her mind. She could just form her body with illusions if need be.
As Astrid used her skill on the woman's anatomy, a strong sense of death mana surged within, then broke down as Astrid’s skill took effect. It was far more powerful than that of the bodyguards. But unlike them, she was beyond dead.
Was the mage using her death mana and converting it to the others?
With the thought, a flashback struck her mind. She was back within Darcy’s mind, and instead of the flickering images she flew by to reach the Order’s plans, they paused for her. No, they went further beyond. Her Dominating Sovereign’s Eye stung. Holding it, the images showed themselves.Follow current novels at novelhall.com)
Astrid was horrified at what she witnessed next.
After witnessing the younger generation outside the Underbelly gates with smiles on their faces, she couldn’t take that away from them. Fighting the spawn gave them purpose, granted them strength, gifted them money to feed their families. Who was she to talk that away from them?
But she didn’t like how it was implemented. Profiteers had taken control of it, and took a portion of their earnings as their own.
“We’ll leave the spawn here.” Astrid said after thinking it through.
“You sure?” Daniel asked.
“I have a plan.”
“Well alright then lass. Let’s head back.”
Astrid agreed and they headed on out of the Underbelly. There were a few middle-aged men wearing thin leather armour standing around with nervous expressions on their faces. They were gazing into the Underbelly.
The profiteers, I take it? Time to nip it in the bud. Let’s just hope that father doesn’t punish me for this...
Astrid raised her voice. “From now on, the Underbelly is under Sinwen control. There will be no taxation involved–it will become a public service. Naturally, we will patrol the area, and retain order within.”
The faces of the younger generation lit up as they held their scavenged weapons in the air.
“Sinwen!”
“Sinwen!”
“Astrid!”
Astrid shook her head. A wry smile curled as she watched the profiteers expression turn from nervous, to anger, and disappointment. But there was nothing they could do about it. Astrid’s word was akin to a law within the Underbelly.
Especially with everyone else gone.
“Astrid, are you sure this is a good idea?” One of the nobles said.
“Bah, then they can bite me. It’s for the good of the people.” Astrid rolled her eyes. “What, are they going to fight me for such a petty reason? They can try it.”
The noble could only sigh helplessly at the chaotic blonde-haired high noble. Once she settled on something, it was impossible to change her mind. Like a storm at sea, there was nothing moving it once it set its destination.
After that, Astrid, the other nobles, Freya, and Daniel, and the team got to work clearing up the rest of the corrupted.
Astrid rid the corruption from those who wanted it gone, while the builders got to work. Their rate of speed was even more terrifying with Astrid helping them after her medical work.
Once everything was in order, Astrid had one more thing to do before Lord Sinwen, and the other high nobles arrived.
From the memories of Darcy. She knew exactly what other high nobles were in on the plan, and a lot of them were still on Rebirth. They were the ones hiding behind their walls. And right now, she was the strongest force, and along with her army, no-one could stop her from doing what she wished.
To hell with consequences, she would annihilate the traitors. The nobles have been protected for too long.
“Astrid, they have suspected things have gone awry, and are preparing ships this instant.” Freya rushed with baited breath.
Astrid blasted off from the ground and hurtled toward the docks on the upper decks at blistering pace. In only a few moments, she reached the ships.
A certain high noble was about to step foot into his personal high speed boat, but with a [Crash], his leg exploded into gore.
“Stop right there,” Astrid said with a voice filled with wrath.
It was time to die the decks red.
